Happy Monday, readers! Today, Austenesque Reviews is paid a visit from author, Sue Barr, who is celebrating her newly published Pride and Prejudice sequel about Kitty Bennet, 
titled – Catherine, Pride & Prejudice Continued… Book Two! During Sue’s first visit last year she had her characters play The Newlywed Game and it was so fun! Sue is back with another round of The Newlywed Game, but this time the contestants are not Caroline and Nathan!
Good morning, Meredith, and thank you for hosting this post for my latest release, Catherine, Pride & Prejudice Continued… Book Two. Today I am back to share a post that I hope gives your readers some more laughs and allows them to get to know Catherine and her new husband, George, in another light.

Good morning ladies and gentlemen, this is Emma Woodhouse, and I am back again at the Theatre-Royal, Covent Garden to play another round of The Newlywed Game. Today I have Lady George Kerr, Catherine Bennet, here with her new husband, Lord George Kerr. Please join me in welcoming them to The Newlywed Game. (Crowd applauses)
Thank you for joining us today. I know a lot of gossip has been surrounding your recent union and today I’d love to give you both the chance to tell your sides of your story. We had great fun when your brother, Nathaniel was here with his bride and I think you’ll enjoy this game too.
I’ll begin our game with some easier questions…
- What is your spouse’s favorite meal?
Catherine: He has an affinity for breakfast. A heaping plate of ham, poached eggs and a liberal amount of creamy butter on his cranberry scones.
George: How true. This love of breakfast coincides with the first time we met, my darling wife. On the flip side, my Catherine likes roasted pheasant and boiled potatoes. The first time we had this meal, she laughingly declared none of her sisters cooked them. To this day she refuses to let me in on her little secret.
- What do you think is the best thing your spouse loves about you?
George: My smile. Most definitely my smile.
Catherine: Yes, although at times he behaves as a rogue, he is forgiven the moment he smiles. I can’t defend myself against it.
- What about you, Lady George, what do you think is the best thing your spouse loves about you?
Catherine: Oh, I cannot say, (a delightful pink staining her cheeks), mayhap my eyes?
George: I love her indomitable spirit. She has such fine courage And, (in a voice only heard by Catherine), I love more than your eyes as you well know.
- Have you ever bought anything and kept the purchase from your spouse?
Catherine: Not to my knowledge. I’m very fastidious with my pin money.
George: There may or may not have been a purchase or two which my lovely wife has no knowledge. Further than that, I cannot divulge more or her birthday will be ruined.
Lord George, what is the one thing your spouse wears that you absolutely love?
George: Other than a lovely crimson silk gown commissioned for a ball Mother gave in her honor, she carries the scent of lavender. I have it on great authority Catherine distills the potion herself and Mother is now sworn to secrecy of how it’s made.
Catherine: You never told me you liked my scent.
George: Even when you were covered by mud and weeds I would have held you longer if only to bask in it.
Catherine (with a light tap on his forearm): Oh, you are such a rogue.
- What was your first impression of your spouse?
Catherine: A gift from God. I thought the Almighty very generous with his looks and manners. He saved me from embarrassing myself in front of Mr. Darcy’s esteemed guests.
George: I was seated next to a beautiful young woman who didn’t flutter her eyes or impose upon me in any way. It was so refreshing to be treated as a man, not a title. I think I fell in love with my Catherine at Darcy’s wedding breakfast.
- How many pairs of shoes does your wife own?
George: I’m not in the habit of rummaging through my wife’s wardrobe, but I can ascertain she has at least two pairs of walking boots, and several dancing slippers, although the slippers are useless as she has been known to stumble when dancing. In fact, the first time we waltzed, I almost had to carry her.
- Finish the sentence. I wish my spouse would stop ________
Catherine: Teasing me about my dancing abilities. You knew I was nervous.
George: Yes, I did and it gave me the perfect excuse to hold you even closer.
- What is your spouse’s pet name for you?
George: If you think I’m going to share that information, Madam, you are sadly mistaken.
Catherine: I don’t mind telling you. Lord George calls me his Catherine, and I love it.
- When did you know you were first in love?
George: I already shared it was immediate. She was everything I never knew I wanted.
Catherine: I always held a tendre for Lord George, but for reasons which are very private I never thought he’d entertain anything further than friendship. However, after an unpleasant encounter with a mutual acquaintance, Lord George never wavered in his regard for me. I knew right then he was the best of men.
- Who said “I love you” first?
George: I did. (turning in his chair to face Catherine) Was it the first or second time I proposed a courtship?
Catherine: I believe you may have stated your affection all three times.
- Where was your first kiss?
Catherine: Under the oak tree in the prettyish little garden at my father’s estate.
George: I have fond memories of that prettyish little garden. What say you to our planting an oak tree at Keswick Manor and placing a bench beneath it.
Catherine: I think that’s a wonderful idea.
- How many children do you wish for?
George: Whatever God blesses us with, but I wouldn’t mind having at least three boys and five girls.
Catherine: Good heavens, where did you come up with those numbers.
George: There were three boys in my family and five girls in yours. Without them, you and I would not be here today. Never mess with perfection.
(George and Catherine are now quite unmindful to their host and crowd.)
Catherine: What would you say to one child to start and see where it goes from there.
George: As always, I defer to you, my Catherine.
Catherine: I’m glad because in about six months’ time we shall know if it’s a boy or girl.
George (eyes widening in shock): Six months?
Catherine (a tremulous smile ghosting her lips): Yes, my darling. Six months, thereabouts.
Oh my, I think this would be a good place to end our game, as you’ve given us lots to gossip, pardon me, I mean, know about both of you. I wish you the best of luck in your new marriage and I look forward to seeing you around Town.
Aww! I love these too together! Kitty stories are so much fun to explore, and I think Lord George Kerr sounds like a wonderfully intriguing and roguish hero! Can’t wait to see how their story unfolds!

That was rather a lot of fun and the answers quite revealing about their relationship. Love the way Catherine drops the fact that she’s with child when he’s teasing her about the number of children they may or may not have!

Wow, Catherine is so much more beautiful than I ever pictured her while reading! And her new husband is nothing to sneeze at either! It seems that “Kitty” has grown up and has done a fine job of it! I loved this version of The Newlywed Game! I should like to do something similar, I think, when my own first JAFF novel is ready for publication. Just reading this bit makes me want to read “Catherine” even more!

This is a fun interview, Sue. I think I missed this game when Caroline was touring the blogs. Gotta check back that post.
Btw, I just have one gripe and it’s the cover. The lady depicted on the cover doesn’t appear to be wearing Regency dress. It looks more like Victorian age or maybe even Georgian period and her hair is not pinned up. It may not be an issue but to me I would like the book cover to reflect the correct timeline the story takes place.
