I am wayyyyyy overdue for a list! It just doesn’t feel right to go so long and not be making new lists! 😉
This is my fourth Austenesque Top Ten list. You can find my other Top Ten lists HERE.
Today’s Top Ten list includes my ten favorite Austenesque novels inspired by Persuasion. It was hard to narrow this list down! So far, I’ve read 24 Austenesque novels inspired by Persuasion and 12 of them were for me, 5 star reads!
If you are a fan of Anne and Wentworth and want to know what novels I’d recommend, check out the list below!
* These lists are based only on the novels I have read and are my top ten favorites.

Hi Meredith
What luck for me. I have just re-read Persuasion and watched the 1995 version with Ciaron Hinds as Captain Wentworth (and he does do him justice). I have never read a sequel to Persuasion. I think I will read “The Subsequent Proposal” and also Jane Odiwe’s book as I have read quite a few of this author’s books before and they are always very good. Thanks for your list. I have missed them!
LOL! Talking about opportune timing! 😉 I hope you enjoy venturing into some Persuasion-inspired reads! There really are so many that are well done!
Thanks, Michelle! As always, Mr Darcy is at the centre of attention 🙂 but Captain Wentworth has rather a lot to say too!! Hope you’ll like it!
I loved loved loved “Searching for Captain Wentworth”. As it’s set in Boston, my co-favorite is “The Family Fortune” by Laurie Horowitz. As I like books about “The Author”, “The Persuasion of Miss Jane Austen” looks interesting.
It’s always fun to see a book take place that is so familiar to you isn’t it? I’ve not read The Family Fortune, have it on my wishlist I think though. 🙂 If you enjoy books that feature Jane Austen as a main character, than you will definitely love The Persuasion of Miss Jane Austen!
What a great list! I love Persuasion, and am new to this so have not read any of these.
I am surprised that I haven’t read 4 of them!! Putting those on my list 🙂 I loved all the ones you listed that I had read. Great list!
Hope you enjoy them! I’ve got many I haven’t read yet! It is hard to keep up!
Ooh! Hope you try one out, Paige! I’d love to know what you think of it if you do!
I have read all but the Regina Jeffers, Tracy Kiely, and Joana Starnes. And the Joana Starnes book is actually in my queue to read! Great list! I especially love the Laura Hile books. Surely you have read Captain Wentworth’s Diary by Amanda Grange? THAT is a favorite.
Thank you, Christina! I hope you enjoy The Subsequent Proposal – so lovely!!! And yes, Laura Hile’s trilogy is amazing! 😉 I have read (but not reviewed) Captain Wentworth’s Diary, it was in my pre-blogging days. Haven’t reread it a while.
Thanks so much, Meredith and Christina! It’s such an honour to be in your Top 10 and I’m so thrilled you liked it, Meredith!!! Wonderful to hear it’s on your TBR, Christina, I hope you’ll like the premise 🙂
Nice choices, Meredith! I have read Regina’s book, the Mercy’s Embrace trio and the Frederick Wentworth duo from your list. I have also enjoyed Amanda Grange’s Captain Wentworth Diary, Abigail Reynolds’ Morning Light, Mary Simonsen’s Capn Wentworth: Home From the Sea, Mary Jane Hathaway’s Persuasion Captain Wentworth and Cracklin Cornbread. I have quite a few Persuasion related stories on my pile to read too:
Oh and my current Austenesque read is Searching for Captain Wentworth. Glad to see it made your list.
Awesome! That is a brilliant story!
Thank you, Sophia! It wasn’t easy to narrow my list down! I had a lot of of Persuasion reads rated 5 and 4.5 stars! 🙂 I’ve not read Persuasion, Captain Wentworth, and Cracklin’ Cornbread! Glad to hear you like it!
Hi Meredith – I’m honored you put Find Wonder in All Things on your Persuasion list ! I’m a Capt Wentworth fan girl myself, and I love Persuasion as a novel- for the story and the elegance of the novel’s structure. It’s good to know other readers (and authors) feel the same 🙂
Oh, of course, Karen! I love Find Wonder in All Things! 🙂 Thank you for writing such a brilliant story!
I have only read two out of the books you picked, Meredith! Persuade Me and Searching for Captain Wentworth. Loved them both 🙂 All the other books are on my list, of course. I plan on reading Find Wonder in All Things very soon 🙂
Ooh! Glad to hear you loved those two, Maria! 🙂 Hope you enjoy Find Wonder in All Things just as much!
So far I’ve only read one of these (that makes me so sad!) – Persuade Me.
I own most of these and hope to read them all at some point.
But such a good one! 🙂 That’s great that you already own most of them!
Of these ten, Meredith, I’ve read: Regina Jeffers’, Shannon Wonslow’s and Joana Starnes’ books. On my TBR&L lists (read & listen), I’ve got Karen Cox’s, Juliet Archer’s and Jane Odiwe’s. Laura Hile’s, Tracey Kiely’s and Susan Kaye’s are new to me, so guess what? My Wish List just got bigger!
The last but one book I read was Captain Wentworth’s Diary by Amanda Grange (bought from the gift shop at Chawton, as it happens, along with Mr. Knightley’s). Definitely worth a look if you haven’ read it yet.
Thanks, Anji 🙂 Hugs!!
Ohh! I love helping readers find an author or book that is new to them! Cannot say enough positive things about Laura Hile, Susan Kaye, and Tracy Kiely! The great thing is all three are series! 🙂
I have read Captain Wentworth’s Diary (don’t have a review, it was read pre-blog) 🙂 As much as I love it, it pales in comparison with Susan Kaye’s and Regina Jeffers. 🙂
Great list, Meredith. I have read (and enjoyed) all of these books but two and I own the two I haven’t read. I absolutely love the Mercy’s Embrace series! I think it may be time to reread them!!:)
Thanks, Kelli! I’m glad to hear you’ve enjoyed nearly all the books I have listed! I completely agree with you about Mercy’s Embrace! I’d love to renew my acquaintance with Patrick McGilvary!
As a fellow list-lover, I really enjoyed this list, Meredith! I have read so few of these, but you have my favourite Persuasion-based books on there, ‘Persuade Me’ and ‘The Subsequent Proposal’, both of which I thought were wonderful.
Thanks so much, Ceri!! I’m so happy you liked it! xx
Woot for making lists! 🙂 I hope you get the chance to read more Persuasion-inspired stories soon! Glad you enjoyed the list!
I’m so honoured to have my book on your list, Meredith-thank you very much!
It definitely belongs here, Jane! I think it may be my favorite I’ve ever read by you – although I do love both your Lydia and Willoughby stories! 🙂 Thank you for writing such a brilliant story!
Searching for Capt. Wentworth is one of my favourites together with Juliet Archers Persuade Me!. Such great books!
And I have lots more to read, as I see on your list! 🙂
Great pics, Katrin! 🙂 Hope you get to read some more soon!
Thanks for including me in the list, Meredith. BTW, “Captain Frederick Wentworth’s Persuasion” (the self published version of “Captain Wentworth’s Persuasion” [same book] as the Ulysses Press title) will be on sale this weekend as part of a promotion with Evie Cotton and my modern P&P “Honor and Hope.”
My pleasure, Regina! I loved CWP! That’s great about the sale, thanks for sharing!
Two of my favorites are Debra White Smith’s modern version called “Possibilities” and Melissa Nathan’s “Persuading Annie.”
Some nice moderns! 🙂 I’ve not read Possibilities in years, definitely need a reread!
What a fun list! As much as I do love P&P and its spinoffs, I wish there were more things based on Persuasion & the other novels. So thanks for highlighting these! Laura Hile’s books might just be my favorite Austen based books ever, if I was forced to narrow it down. They are fantastic! 🙂
I agree, Amy! It so great to be able to visit with all of Jane Austen’s characters, they are such wonderful creations! Definitely would love more though! 🙂 Very true! They are soooo fantastic!
Thank you so much for including me in such an august list, Meredith. If the gods smile and Frederick cooperates there will finally be a volume three to add the the Frederick Wentworth, Captain series.
We Frederick Fan Girls have to stick together.
You HAVE to be on this list, Susan! Love your stories! That is such wonderful news! I cannot wait! 🙂
What a lovely surprise to discover that “The Persuasion of Miss Jane Austen” made another one of your “best” lists, Meredith! What an honor. Thank you! I also appreciate that you are highlighting “Persuasion” books. As much as we all love P&P, it’s good for readers to know there’s more out there worth reading. 😀
Thank YOU for writing such a beautiful and moving story, Shannon! So thankful you shared it with us! I love reading about these characters and themes, hope more will be written in the future! 😀
I’ve read the Amanda Grange one. I own Searching for Captain Wentworth by Jane Odiwe and the first Laura Hile one, but haven’t read them. I may read Tracy Kiely someday because I love mysteries and that’s what I mostly read.
Those would be great ones for you to read, Michelle! Hope you like them! 🙂
I would like to read “The subsequent proposal” with P&P characters and Persuasion ones mixed together, an enchanting premise! 🙂
I didn´t know some of the novels of your top ten, I have to check them with calm because they seem very promising. Thanks, Meredith! 😉
Thanks, Teresa! I hope you’ll like my take on Mr Darcy at loggerheads with Capt Wentworth 😉
It’s a terrific story, Teresa! Very well done! 🙂 Glad the list brought some new titles to your attention!
WOW! Thanks SO MUCH, Meredith! I’m so thrilled to find ‘The Subsequent Proposal’ in your top ten, and in such awesome company !!!! [happy dance and hugs 😀 ]
You are so sweet, Joana! It belongs on this list! I love your brilliant story!
I am shocked at how few of these I’ve read (Head bowed in shame!). I must see to this right away. Thanks for the recommendations, Meredith.
LOL! Some of them aren’t very recent, so they might not be on your radar. 🙂 Hope you get the chance to read them soon!
Thank you for sharing Meredith! I have never read anything Persuasion related. But was pleasantly surprised to see I own five of the ones you mentioned! Obviously it shows my book buying is out of hand
Ooh! That’s great, Tamara! I can’t wait to see what you think of the ones you read. Do you have plans to read any soon?
Meredith, your lists are the greatest! I have more books to add to my TBR list!
Thank you, Cat! I’m glad you enjoy them! 🙂
Meredith, thank you so much for including my books on your list. I’m so glad you enjoyed them.
Of course, Laura! Thank YOU for writing and publishing them! Such a wonderful gift to share with us Jane Austen and Persuasion fans!
I have only read the last two but then I look for P&P variations most of the time. I think I will have to try your top one or two to find out what the fuss is all about.
Shannon Winslow’s is tops with me – LuV it!
and Amanda Grange’s Captain Wentworth’s Diary [as all her diaries are excellent!]
Like some of the others I am new to Persuasion. I find Captain Wentworth to be very intriguing, and Ann to be a bit of an enigma. I can’t wait to begin reading your recommendations. Thank you for this lovely list!
I’ve read (and own) all of them but two, and those are modern adaptations so that’s not surprising. I agree with several of the PP’s, I love Amanda Grange’s diaries. Joana Starnes “Subsequent Proposal” is up there on my list too. Great list Meredith!!
Any way you can update this list and perhaps include some fan fiction, too? I love Persuasion, but there is not enough of it!!
Hi CE! Thanks for checking out my list. This is a list of my favorites of the books I read. 🙂 If you are looking for a list of Persuasion-inspired stories I keep that here: https://austenesquereviews.com/2009/10/a-comprehensive-guide-to-austenesque-novels-persuasion.html I try to keep it up-to-date as I can with the published works each year.
