from the author’s website:
It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single girl of high standing at Longbourn Academy must be in want of a prom date.

After winter break, the girls at the very prestigious, very wealthy, girls-only Longbourn Academy are suddenly obsessed with the prom, which they share with the nearby, equally elitist, all-boys Pemberley School. Lizzie Bennet, who attends Longbourn on scholarship, isn’t exactly interested in designer dresses and expensive shoes, but her best friend, Jane, might be-especially now that Charles Bingley is back from a semester in London.

Lizzie is happy about her friend’s burgeoning romance, but less than impressed by Will Darcy, Charles’s friend, who’s snobby and pretentious. Darcy doesn’t seem to like Lizzie either, but she assumes it’s because her family doesn’t have money. Clearly, Will Darcy is a pompous jerk—so why does Lizzie find herself drawn to him anyway?

Will Lizzie’s pride and Will’s prejudice keep them apart? Or are they a prom couple in the making?

MY THOUGHTS:

  • I think this is a cute concept!
  • Although I’m no longer in high school, I really would love to read this YA novel!
  • I love the combination of a high school prom and Pride and Prejudice!
  • I wonder who will we see at prom?  Mrs. Bennet?  Mr. Collins?  Maybe even Lady Catherine?
  • What a pretty pink cover!  I wonder why someone is cutting the dress strap?
  • This author’s first novel The Lonely Hearts Club, seems to have some references to The Beatles.  As a fan of both The Beatles and Jane Austen, I think this Ms. Eulberg and I have a lot in common!

What are your thoughts?

  1. I’m in my 50s and like the concept. Perhaps its due to the grandkids..smiles. Or maybe I’m young for my age. (I’m still figuring out all the things I want to be when I grow up) And yes, the cutting of the dress strap has got my attention also. Questions

  2. This sounds like fun! I too read YA books… more than my teenage girls do, I think! Hope it lives up to our expectations! Thanks for the ‘finds.’ Will put it on my ‘to read’ list.
I think Lizzie is cutting the dress strap to make herself feel more grown up, for Will Darcy, even though he is a proud elitist. 😉

  3. Not sure … could be good, and if the reviews come back positive I may well read it, but that whole elite boarding school thing doesn’t appeal to me at all. I know kids who went to those schools and tend to not be happy with the way popular media represents them.

  4. Hmm, the dress strap cutting for some reason makes me think of the original Parent Trap with Haley Mills when they cut the back of the dress. I’d bet it’s Caroline Bingley, jealous of our lovely Elizabeth.
