(in alphabetical order)

A Good Name

Author: Sarah Courtney

Type of Novel: Modern Adaptations

My Rating: 5 out of 5 stars

My Review   I   Add to Cart   I   Add to Shelf

A Good Name is a wonderfully pure and heart-touching tale about love. And not just romantic love, but love between friends, parents and children, and siblings. I greatly admire Sarah Courtney’s unique premise, her real and endearing characters, and her well-constructed execution full of delightfully surprising twists.”

A Higher Education

Author: Rosalie Stanton

Type of Novel: Modern Adaptations

My Rating: 5 out of 5 stars

My Review   I   Add to Cart   I   Add to Shelf

“The unexpected interactions, brilliantly-charged tension, and emotional discoveries between Will and Elizabeth in this story made for a wonderfully riveting and fresh read. Sharp, stirring, and sensational – A Higher Education is a perfect choice for readers who love seeing Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice in a contemporary setting.”

A Searing Acquaintance
Author: Jan Ashton

Type of Novel: Modern Adaptations

My Rating: 4.5 out of 5 stars

My Review   I   Add to Cart   I   Add to Shelf

A Searing Acquaintance is a poignant and powerful debut release that beautifully explores overcoming your past, rising above difficult relationships, and discovering the precious powers of unconditional love. I applaud J. L. Ashton for her sensitive adaptation and her skillful yet plausible addition of a bit of shade to Jane Austen’s beloved masterpiece.”

An Unexpected Harvest

Author: Cat Andrews

Type of Novel: Modern Adaptations

My Rating: 5 out of 5 stars

My Review   I   Add to Cart   I   Add to Shelf

“Cat Andrews demonstrates once again that she is quite masterful at playing with role reversals. Similar to Sanctuary this story is P&Pish – an original tale that borrows some characters and themes but that doesn’t closely follow the plot events of Jane Austen’s story. And in this story, readers see the situations swapped.”

Dance the Tide

Author: Car Andrews

Type of Novel: Modern Adaptations

My Rating: 5 out of 5 stars

My Review   I   Add to Cart   I   Add to Shelf

Dance the Tide is a wonderfully authentic tale about wading through the challenging and treacherous waters of life. A beautiful Pride and Prejudice homage that doesn’t focus primarily on mistaken pride or overcoming prejudices, but instead brings about a splendidly rewarding tale of healing, deep love, forgiveness, and emotional well-being.”

First and Then

Author: Emma Mills

Type of Novel: Modern Adaptations

My Rating: 5 out of 5 stars

My Review   I   Add to Cart   I   Add to Shelf

“This fresh and compelling story swept me up with its high school realities, humor, and heart. For Jane Austen fans who enjoy Austenesque stories that take place in different environments or Janeites who love to see subtle echoes of Jane Austen cleverly worked into a plot, First and Then is a brilliant choice!”

Green Card

Author: Elizabeth Adams

Type of Novel: Modern Adaptations

My Rating: 5 out of 5 stars

My Review   I   Add to Cart   I   Add to Shelf

“I loved seeing how things developed between Liz and Will. How they grew from business partners to roommates, from friends to lovers. It was quite lovely to witness. In addition, I enjoyed observing how both characters dealt with some personal/family issues throughout this story. There is a surprising amount of emotional healing and growth in this tale.”

President Darcy

Author: Victoria Kincaid

Type of Novel: Modern Adaptations

My Rating: 5 out of 5 stars

My Review   I   Add to Cart   I   Add to Shelf

“From their very first embarrassing encounter together I fell in love with President Darcy and Elizabeth Bennet. Their electric chemistry, their mutual desire to not have a relationship, and their overwhelming feelings for each other had me swooning. I absolutely loved how emotionally invested I felt with these characters and how the twists and turns in their paths consumed my thoughts all day long. These reincarnations of Darcy and Lizzy are captivating, sympathetic, and ones I greatly admire.”

Pride, Prejudice, and Other Flavors

Author: Sonali Dev

Type of Novel: Modern Adaptations

My Rating: 5 out of 5 stars

My Review   I   Add to Cart   I   Add to Shelf

Pride, Prejudice, and Other Flavors is an inventive, remarkable, and perceptive homage to Jane Austen’s characters that I thoroughly admired. This savory and vibrant tale is appetizing enough to tempt readers who enjoy contemporary stories, dynamic family sagas, and compelling fiction.”

  1. I have not read First and Then nor have I read Pride, Prejudice, and Other Flavors. All the others were 5 star reads for me. Those two I will not read due to it not being available under KU as there are so many I get with no extra cost through that subscription.

  2. I’ve not read First and Then, Pride Prejudice and Other Flavours or A Good Name, although I do have the last one on my list. I love all the others and have read them multiple times. Great choices Meredith!

  3. Great list!! Happy to see so many of my favourites here, especially Cat Andrews’ and Jan Ashton’s ; like the others I did not read some of them and I confess somehow ashamed I had not known about the President one. Only Austenesque inspired but from our own JAFF author Elizabeth Adams, I would add to my own list Ships to Shore. Thank you!! Lists you say? Oh my! How about lists based on tropes? Slow burn romance; Friends to Lovers, Exclussive ODC POV’s…

  4. Fabulous choices! I’ve read all but two. We need more good moderns. I’m definitely a fan.I need to go back to your first list and make sure I didn’t miss any.

  5. So sweet to see ASA on your list, Meredith! I adore modern JAFFs so much, and I’ve read nearly all of these wonderful books. (Sometimes I get the hankering to write another one–time will tell!)

  6. I’ve read A Good Name, President Darcy, Unwrapping Mr. Darcy and, most recently, Green Card. Even though Elizabeth Adams is one of my favorite JAFF authors, I always bypassed this one, thinking it was the book that the movie Green Card was based on since they have the same title. One day I finally read the description, realized it was a modern P&P adaptation and immediately bought and read it. Of course it was wonderful and is one of my favorites too!
