Looking for something to sweet to satisfy your Darcy craving? Maybe try A Taste or Peanut Butter. 😄

This sweet novella was like a delightful dessert after dinner…light, pleasing, but not too filling. In this tale we meet a modern-day William and Elizabeth who are quick to fall in love with each other upon meeting. Without pride, prejudice, and other obstacles standing in their way, their relationship proceeds smoothly and quickly with several tender and beautiful scenes together. Which is perfect if you are in the mood for an uncomplicated light-hearted romance. I tend to prefer my relationships to have a little more conflict and slow development to them, but I could tell from early on in the story that this romance was going to be straightforward and light. So I adjusted my expectations and enjoyed the ride.

My favorites aspects of this story were hearing about Elizabeth’s baking (she is a very talented home baker with a signature ingredient – peanut butter) and witnessing her take part in the Weekend Prime Baker competition. I loved the clever way Ms. Redlarczyk brought other Pride and Prejudice characters into this competition (such excellent choices!) And I absolutely loved hearing about the creative and decadent descriptions of all the desserts made by contestants, especially the ones made by Elizabeth – they definitely sound tolerable enough to tempt me! 😉

What also enhanced my enjoyment of A Taste of Peanut Butter was the Pinterest board Jennifer Redlarczyk created to accompany this story. The pins are in order and with their captions you can tell exactly what image corresponds with what event or dessert of the story. I appreciate all the time that went into creating this board and the extra visual details it provided. In addition, I loved the wonderful chuckle Jennifer Redlarczyk gives readers with her Regency-inspired short story “Blame it On the Squash,” which is part of the bonus material included in the back of the book. What great fun!

A Taste of Peanut Butter is an excellent choice for readers who are in need of a light and sweet story to savor – whether it is because they are going through some life/work challenges and stress, or because they have been consuming a steady diet of angsty and heavy reads and are in need of a change. This diverting tale will make you smile, but be warned, it might also make your stomach growl! 😄

  1. I too loved this book Meredith.
You know I’m not a huge angst lover although I do grab my tissues and dive in when the occasion demands! But I also love to read short and sweet (and this was certainly sweet!)
I stopped baking myself when my children left home. I can’t say I ever enjoyed it but then I’m not a cookery lover either, it’s just a shame that I can’t afford a cook 🙂 🙂

  2. I agree entirely with your review! Just the type of story to read and enjoy without having to worry about angst. I loved it!

  3. Meredith, this sounds delicious… um… delightful. I look forward to reading it. I have it in that TBR pile of mine. I hope to do much better with my reading list in 2020. Yikes… that pile is leaning dangerously close to my house. Say hello to your Mr. Bingley and thank him for sharing you with us. What would be do without our Meredith and your wonder reviews.

    1. JW, I think you will enjoy this tale. If you read it when it was on the forum in it’s original, I made lots of changes in editing and even added an extra chapter and the epilogue. Enjoy when you are able and be sure to check out my Pinterest page for the mouth watering visuals. ♫

    1. Denise, I hope you get a chance to try out my little tale. I had lots of fun writing Lizzy in a bake off! ♫

  4. Meredith! Thanks so much for reviewing my little delicious treat! I had so much fun looking for pictures and recipes while writing this little tale. I actually made one for the peanut butter cream cheese pie and entered it in our Lake County Fair in Indiana. Guess what! lizzy’s pie won first place! Thanks again! jen ♫

    1. Thank YOU so much for the opportunity to read and review your fun and delicious tale!

That is an amazing story! I am so happy for you! You and Lizzy both are great bakers!

  5. I thought this was a sweetie, low-angst story, too. Didn’t know about the Pinterest board so I’ll have to check it out.

  6. Thanks for a lovely review, Meredith. Jennifer, your new book sound very much like “Pride amd Prejudice meets The Great British Bake Off”! As a huge fan of both (been watching the Bake Off since its very first series, here in the UK) this sounds like a definite must for me. My friends in the US will know it as The Great British Baking Show which started over here, oh my giddy aunt, ten years ago in 2010.

As a Brit, peanut butter came as something new to me in my mid-20s (my parents didn’t like it, so they never bought it) when we met an American family on a two year working stint in West Africa. They introduced us to the delights of “peanut butter and jelly”, which I simply couldn’t see working. Until I tried it! Of course, jelly in that context isn’t what a Brit thinks it is (to us it’s a gelatine-based dessert). But peanut butter and jam on toast for breakfast is amazing.

    1. Have you tried some peanut butter smeared on a banana? Even put on a sandwich together it is a treat. PB on apple slices is also good.

    2. Anji, Peanut Butter has always been a favorite in our family. Three of my nieces studied in the UK and brought along American PB in their suitcases which gave me the inspiration for this crazy little baking story. Thanks. Jen
