A Jane Austen Christmas Celebration – Spotlight on Regency Austentation!!!

Welcome Laura Boyle, artisan of the Etsy shop, Regency Austentation!

“I sincerely hope your Christmas…may abound in the gaieties which that season generally brings.”
Pride and Prejudice

The sentiments may be Caroline Bingley’s, but surely they ring true for Janeites everywhere. For me, it is a time of trees and snow and holiday sparkle, of remembering again the story of a tiny baby, born in Bethlehem, who would grow up to be the Savior of the world.

Today we are decorating our tree, and as each ornament is unwrapped, it brings back memories of this friend, or that milestone. A goodly number of them, too, bring back memories of trips to Bath and London (so beautiful at this time of year!) while many others are Jane Austen themed, bringing a smile each time I see one. The Christmas season also marks the first anniversary of my Etsy store, Regency Austentation.

I began my little shop last year, shortly after the publication of Cooking with Jane Austen and Friends, as an outlet for my ever growing collection of Jane Austenand Regency inspired Christmas and craft items. My main site, Austentation: Regency Accessories, had long been home to custom made Regency hats, bonnets, reticules and other accessory items, however, I was inspired by my sister-in-law to try something new—a little shop stocked with “ready made” items, set for shipping.

Some treasures you will find in Laura’s shops!

The immediate result was the busiest Christmas season I’d ever had, and as I added new products throughout the following year, I came to really appreciate the ease and user friendliness of the Etsy shop front, as well as the opportunity to offer one-of-a-kind items in a wide market place. This year, in the midst of another whirlwind of stocking, packing and shipping, it is lovely to take some time out and celebrate Jane during her special month, hoping that you, too, “Have a cheerful, and at times even a merry, Christmas.”(Jane Austen to Cassandra, December 9, 1808)

Christmas-inspired ornaments and gifts that can be found in Laura’s etsy shop!

  1. My most treasured ornament is one that my grandmother gave me…from my grandparents’ first Christmas tree (1920!!) I don’t display it on the tree-it is in my curio cabinet year around!!

This is the first time that I’ve heard of Laura’s shop (sometimes, I think that I live under a rock LOL) I’m off to check it out NOW~~love those clothespin dolls, thank you so much for a chance to win!

  2. My favorite ornament is one that my grandmother gave to my mother and now it hangs on my tree. It’s a Scottish bag piper, one of the few things that my grandmother brought with her when she emigrated to Canada from Scotland after WWII. It’s not at all my ‘style’ at all and it stands out against the other ornaments, but it’s very sentimental to me.

Thanks for spreading some Christmas cheer!

  3. I collect Hallmark ornaments and the are all special because they represent moments in our family’s life. But the ones I cherish the most are from my Oma. They are ones she made and I inherited them after she past away. I love looking at the on the tree.

  4. Your work is just gorgeous! Thank you so much for sharing. My favorite ornament is one that I made with my eldest daughter on her first Christmas. It is of her hand made into a little reindeer. Now she is eight years old and her hand is much larger than that tiny one that is hanging on my tree! Thanks for the giveaway!!=))

  5. Love it!

My favorite ornaments I haven’t been able to put on the tree in the past couple of years. My cat, Kirkwood’s ornament who died in 2008, and my dog, Norma Jean’s ornament, who died in 2011. Just makes me too weepy at this point.

But, I do love my kids’ first ornaments!

  6. I don’t have any one treasured ornament though I do treasure some old handcrafted ornaments made from ribbon, sequins and beads that my husband’s grandmother made. They are so beautiful and have become a family heirloom.

    Thanks for the giveaway opportunity.

  7. What lovely prizes! I love Austenesque Etsy shops. My favorite ornament is one that my great-grandmother gave me on my first Christmas. It’s a little tiny white bear inside a red crocheted box.

  8. I love all the ornaments we put on the tree at my moms place. Mostly out of wood and in red colours. I love searching in the big boxs for ornaments and every few minutes telling my mom: ” Look at this, this is soo cute too!” They are always the same ornament year after year, but every christmas I love to explore them again.

  9. Do I really need to pick just ONE most treasured Christmas ornament? There are so many that are special for different reasons, it is truly difficult to choose. Like choosing a favorite child. 😉 Like Laura, I enjoy unwrapping each ornament and reflecting on the memories and what that ornament symbolizes.
I just love everything in Laura’s store! She has some of the most beautiful jewelry as well!
Thanks so much for the giveaway! 🙂

  10. What yummy prizes! Thanks for hosting!

I don’t know what my favorite ornament is, but this year I had one made with a sonogram image of the baby we lost in the spring. Although it makes me sad, I think it’s going to be a favorite over the years.

  11. My favourite ornament is definitely my snow globe ornament. I have had it since I was 10 🙂

The ornaments look lovely! Thanks for the giveaway!

  12. oops, I got confused with the rafflecopter entry option and forgot to add my email. Apparently reading and following simple instructions isn’t my forte.
