An All-Consuming Adventure of Danger and Romance!
Rating: 5 out of 5 stars

In her second Pride and Prejudice retelling, author Jan Hahn not only takes our beloved Darcy and Elizabeth off course, she transports them to scenario rife with danger, tension, and romance.
Because of Mrs. Bennet’s endless tirade over Elizabeth’s refusal of Mr. Collins, Mr. Bennet sends Elizabeth to London to stay with her Aunt and Uncle Gardiner, in hopes that his wife will soon reconcile herself to the fact that Lizzy will not be the next Mrs. Collins. Although not the arrangement initially agreed upon, Lizzy ends up traveling to London in Mr. Bingley’s carriage with only Caroline Bingley, Louisa Hurst, and Mr. Darcy. Between deflecting Caroline malicious barbs and avoiding conversation with the infuriating Mr. Darcy, Elizabeth can’t possibly imagine a more uncomfortable or unpleasant situation…That is until a band of highwaymen come and rob them all and take Darcy and herself as ransom…
In order to protect Elizabeth from this band of dangerous men, Darcy declares Elizabeth to be his wife! Shocking, isn’t it? Especially since disguise of every sort is his abhorrence. Yes, Mr. Darcy, your quick and ready solution certainly has us raising an eyebrow… The consequences of Darcy’s rash decision are that Elizabeth and Darcy are now forced to act the part of husband and wife while in captivity. Instead of a coinciding stay in Kent, Darcy and Elizabeth cohabit the same debasing and solitary room. Instead of a chance meeting at Pemberley, Darcy and Elizabeth face the chance that their captors might make good on their death threats. With an ever-protective and officious Darcy trying to suppress his regard and an obstinate and misguided Elizabeth trying to suppress her resentment living in close quarters with no privacy, one might beg the question: can the intensity of this situation get any higher? Enter: Nate Morgan.
Nate Morgan, a strikingly handsome rogue, is the leader of theband of highwaymen who have captured Elizabeth and Darcy. He’s dangerous and brusque, yet he’s also a bit of flirt who seems to have fallen for our dear Lizzy. The few times Lizzy is alone with Nate, she witnesses his softer side, and it invokes her compassion and sympathy, but does he touch her heart?
Oh my, what a riveting and heart-pounding adventure! With a magnetizing and dangerous bad boy, a couple who believes their love for each other is unrequited, a damaged reputation, and the threat of scandal this novel had me consumed! I took great pleasure in how the story was told from Elizabeth’s point-of-view, giving readers the added insight of seeing everything through her eyes. And, I loved the uniqueness of this premise. It sort of has a western-feel to with the whole band of highwaymen holding them ransom, giving the story a lot of more adventure and action than one usually finds in an Austenesque novel. Lastly, I loved how Jan Hahn gave her readers a deeply satisfying conclusion, displaying that there are no regrets and that everything happened as it should. *sigh*
Readers who love the novels by Abigail Reynolds, Kara Louise, and Mary Simonsen will be sure to love these compelling, engaging, and skillfully-written offerings by Jan Hahn! I cannot wait to see what Ms. Hahn writes next!

There is some kissing scenes, but no mature scenes. I would rate it all as very PG-13. Hope this helps!
This is an excellent opportunity to win something so precious as this lovely book.
I have read ‘An Arranged Marriage’ and I loved it, so I think this book is also great!

It sounds so intriguing and it sounds like Darcy and Elizabeth are in for a wonderful adventure!
Wonderful review, Meredith. I already have Jan’s book, so I do not want to be part of giveaway :), but the lucky winner will be very lucky indeed – this is such a great story ! 🙂
Wonderful giveaway which would be enjoyable. Many thanks.
Thanks for ths great review. This book would be captivating and special.
OOO, I can’t wait to see how Darcy reacts to the “damsel in distress” situation.
I haven’t read either book yet. (I must say that is really unusual for me.) I’m so thrilled you are having this giveaway. I’ve had both books on my wish list but it must be so good that no one is willing to part with theirs. I guess that’s a good thing for Jan. I may have to break down and just go buy the first one with all the wonderful reviews I’ve seen and this one makes it even more that way. Great review! I could hope Elizabeth is as witty with those highwaymen as she is with Darcy.
Meredith: Oh, my! What a great review. What’s not to love about Jan’s terrific stories? I would love to win the book!
Thank you, Kathryn! So far she is 2 for 2! I loved both of her stories!
Oh my, I don’t believe I have a chance but here it goes. I love, love, love Jan Han’s An Arranged Marriage and I can’t wait to read The Journey!!!! Just in case I win my email is ritalacerdawatts@aol.com
Austenesque Salutations!!!!
I think you said it all in your next to last paragraph! What an adventure it was! I loved how Darcy came to Elizabeth’s rescue in the only way that he could at the moment. Deceitful, though it was…his innermost wish was bursting forth. The cave scene was delightful, yet as always, they have a great knack for misunderstanding each other. I, too adored this book. As I already have my own copy, please do not enter me in the giveaway, but I couldn’t pass up commenting on your lovely review.
Thanks, Janet! What a fantastic read! I loved Darcy’s “quick thinking” or perhaps it is a “Freudian slip?” Oh and the cave scene! I reread that several times! And I was falling off my chair with laughter with the whole pig/cart/Darcy being peeved about being Elizabeth’s brother!! What a hilarious series of events!
luving deeply satisfying conclusions! Thx for this review Meredith 🙂 and Jan for writing such an adventure !
Oh, the cave! That was wonderful and you’re right Meredith, the pigscene was hilarious! This is such a great book, so I really really really hope Jan Hahn will write another book soon! (Don’t include me in the giveaway, I obviously have a copy…)
would love to win a copy – please enter me in your giveaway!
Adding this one to the the must read list! Thanks for the giveaway!
