Character Interview + Giveaway with Author Morgan Blake!!!

Hi friends! I’m very happy to share a visit from a new-to-me author with you today! 🙌🏼

Author Morgan Blake released her first Pride and Prejudice variation – The Cherry Trees of Rosings – around two months ago. 🎉

Morgan is here to share an interview she had with one of her characters, we hope you enjoy! 😊

Hello readers, it’s Morgan Blake on this side. Nice to make your acquaintance!

I had the pleasure of chatting with Mrs. Elizabeth Darcy recently about the events in The Cherry Trees of Rosings. The interview below is a succinct version of it. I hope you enjoy this short tête-à-tête with our beloved heroine.

~ Book Description ~

A Pride & Prejudice variation with a slightly paranormal, mainly comic twist!

When Elizabeth Bennet visits her newly-married friend, Charlotte Collins, at the Hunsford parsonage, she has no idea that Mr. Darcy (he of the arrogant demeanor and perpetual cause of annoyance!) shall turn up to ruin her blissful, idyllic days.

Only, Mr. Darcy is not himself.

And then Elizabeth stumbles straight through him one day… like one would an apparition! Goodness gracious!

“Mr. Darcy, I do not know what you mean, but I would appreciate it if you would desist from haunting me!”

“I apologize, Miss Bennet, for scaring you,” Mr. Darcy said, almost regretfully.

To solve her haunting problem, Elizabeth must team up with Mr. Darcy to find out what happened to him, and along the way discover that maybe he is not all that he seemed at first. And that maybe…she doesn’t hate him after all.

“You wish to write the letter now?” he asked as she moved past him with the candle.

“Well, to be honest,” she glanced at him. “I would prefer to sleep. But since you are here, I do not see why not.”

From the antics of Lady Catherine de Bourgh to the hilarity of Mr. Collins’ advice on staying fit, The Cherry Trees of Rosings shall make you laugh and cry in equal measure. And wonder: Will our favourite couple find their happy ever after?

Spoiler: Yes, they will!

This Pride and Prejudice variation features our favourite Regency romance couple from Jane Austen’s original classic in a somewhat spooky setup. But fear not, dear readers! This story is not scary in the least. Prepare for a chuckle fest and abundant cups of tea!

~ Character Interview with Mrs. Darcy ~

Morgan: This is the biggest spoiler, I must say! But it is a pleasure to have this conversation with you, Mrs. Darcy, about the book.

Mrs. Elizabeth Darcy: Yes. *laughs* But was there ever any doubt that my dear Fitzwilliam and I shall be together in the end?

Morgan: None whatsoever! Shall we begin our discussion on encountering apparitions, lost love, found love, and all the other shenanigans in The Cherry Trees of Rosings?

Mrs. Elizabeth Darcy: Yes, please.

Morgan: I wish to begin with your impression of Lady Catherine de Bourgh. She was one of the biggest presences in the story and had me on my seat’s edge the entire time. Can you tell me a little about that?

Mrs. Elizabeth Darcy: I can tell you a lot about that! *laughs again* But Morgan, I shall be honest with you, I am not feeling excessively charitable towards that lady at present. Nor is Mr. Darcy. And believe me, Lady Catherine is not one to hold back her words when she feels wronged… which our marriage has left her feeling.

Nevertheless, I will say that her tantrums were quite diverting to me at first.

Lady Catherine just has the oddest way of looking at the world! You never know what she might say or which subject will be of the gravest concern to her and require the liberal application of her considerable judgements and advice.

She once spoke of arranging flowers inside one’s home for the greater part of an hour… only to reveal that she does not keep any in Rosings because they do not agree with Miss de Bourgh’s health.

Morgan: Truly? *laughs* I don’t believe that bit is in the book, is it?

Mrs. Elizabeth Darcy: *Laughs* No, but there is that story with the potatoes and green beans.

Morgan: Oh yes! Haha. It is a good one.

Mrs. Elizabeth Darcy: I must say, though, Mr. Collins makes everything both better and worse where Lady Catherine is concerned. I am not entirely certain if she would be half as tyrannical without him! But Mr. Darcy says otherwise. So I shall defer to his better judgement about his aunt.

Morgan: Well, there is that for sure. But speaking of Mr. Darcy, there is this huge mystery around the carriage accident in the book. How did you juggle living life as if everything was normal when everything was clearly not? Especially with you being the only one who could see Mr. Darcy’s apparition.

Mrs. Elizabeth Darcy: *A pause* It was… difficult. I truly believed I was losing my mind at first. But I could not deny for too long that it was Mr. Darcy and not a figment of my imagination. And once I realized that, I could not have done anything other than help him.

I believe anyone would have! Or, at least, I hope anyone would have. *A pause* In any case, my courage always rises in the face of challenges.

Morgan: No one can doubt that.

Mrs. Elizabeth Darcy: *smiles* To be fair, having Charlotte’s support once she found out what was happening helped me not fall apart entirely. I shudder to think what would have happened… if Fitzwilliam and I would have found our way to each other at all… if not for her.

Morgan: I don’t want to spoil anything for readers who have not read the book yet, but I was bawling my eyes out near the end.

Mrs. Elizabeth Darcy: Ah, so was I! *laughs with self-deprecating humour that only the British can pull off*

Morgan: Alright, Mrs. Darcy, I have one last question for you!

Mrs. Elizabeth Darcy: Ask away!

Morgan: Would you rather have to hear Mr. Collins speak on and on for twenty-four hours without a break? Or would you have Lady Catherine’s ire directed at you for half that time?

Mrs. Elizabeth Darcy: Surely, Morgan! Must you ask me such frightening questions?

Morgan: Even more frightening than encountering Mr. Darcy’s apparition out of the blue?

Mrs. Elizabeth Darcy: I am on the fence about that. But I would say yes.

And Mr. Collins.

I would rather have my ears talked off with all the inanities of the world than deal with Lady Catherine again. We have had too much of her in this household to last us a good while!

Dear readers, that brings us to the end of our interview with Mrs. Darcy.

Do I sense some beef brewing behind the scenes? Maybe there will be another book in the future looking into such matters.

But, for now, do give The Cherry Trees of Rosings a read. It’s available for borrowing on Kindle Unlimited. I wish you a wonderful day ahead!

  1. I do love the imagination of these authors! What a wonderful idea! Lucky Darcy, only visible to Elizabeth! Just imagine if Lady Catherine could see him? She’d have him married to Anne, ghost or not! Definitely added to my list.

  2. What a fun and intriguing interview. Now I definitely must read the story that goes with this. You obviously have a magnificent imagination, Morgan, and I’m dying to experience it.

  3. Such a unique premise-there are only a few P&P variations where one of the principal characters is a ghost and can only be seen by the other. Congratulations on publishing your story.

  4. What an interesting concept – and obviously some great character interaction. Lady Catherine must have been truly terrible. (Not that she is that nice in Canon). I loved the interview. I look forward to reading this.

  5. Well now I have to seek this book out. I do like a bit of paranormal within a story.
As long as ODC get their HEA Im in.

  6. I love character interviews — they are so fun! And Elizabeth was as witty as ever. This book is definitely in the TBR hoard.

  7. Always on the lookout for new authors and books. What an interesting idea. Looking forward to reading this book.
