What If Lydia’s Scandal Altered the Bennet’s in Many Ways?

Rating: 4.5 out of 5 Stars

Source: Gift from Publisher

THE PREMISE: Mr. Darcy never encounters Elizabeth the day she receives Jane’s letters about Lydia. And Elizabeth’s family face tragedy, loss, and change without Mr. Darcy knowing anything about it. Now, two years later Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth once again encounter each other in Yorkshire…

MY THOUGHTS:

With such an arrestingly romantic and beautiful cover, I’m thrilled to say that the pages of this novella match its exterior. While the premise hinges on multiple tragedies and alterations befalling the Bennets it also illustrates how some of their lives are eventually changed for the better through a new character, new circumstances, and second chances.

Even though they were dealing with hardship, I love seeing the Bennets grapple with establishing a new life and living in new situations. In this story it was especially interesting to see them relocate to Yorkshire and interact with a new family member.

The best parts of this story were seeing Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth have their second chance together. I loved witnessing all of Mr. Darcy’s compassion and consideration for Elizabeth. And I loved seeing Elizabeth be more open with her admiration and affection. Their scenes together were everything ardent and swoony. My only wish is that in addition to the romantic swoony scenes between Darcy and Elizabeth that we also saw some more of the Bennet ladies’ relationships with Mrs. Cahill and the matchmaking schemes and drama that was hinted at with the Fitwilliam brothers.

FINAL THOUGHTS:

🆕 A new mother figure for Elizabeth, a new suitor for Jane, and a new chance for Mr. Darcy.

💗 Another Susan Adriani classic full of ardent romance that Darcy and Elizabeth fans will adore.

❣️ When after two years their affections and wishes are unchanged…Darcy and Elizabeth don’t let anything stand in their way.

  1. I love Susan’s books and I’m so looking forward to reading this one! It’s a shame Elizabeth didn’t get the letter and Darcy wasn’t aware of their troubles but obviously they are both drawn to the other now and I love that! Definite romance! 🙂

  2. There is no words to express all my anticipation for this book! Usually I “cheat” a bit and buy the paper book several weeks before the release – but I have put in on my wishlist and Jolabokaflod so I thought I would be patient! What an error!!

Especially after your rbeautiful review! Sound just my kind – ardent romance and love. What you said about prefering to see a bit more about the others? For me is the perfection of this story! All attention on Elizabeth and Darcy? Yes, please!!! All attention on E and D written by Susan? Swoon!

    1. Haha! I hope Jolabokaflod will be good to you, Mihaela, and also that you will consider my story worth the wait!

      1. How frustrating not to be able to get this resolved. I know you’ve been trying for a while. Hope someone will figure it out for you soon!

  3. Hi Meredith,
First of all, I can’t believe it but the beautiful cover is a painting from a famous spanish painter, Raimundo de Madrazo, I saw a few weeks ago during a visit to a museum in Madrid! I remember seeing this wondeful portrait and told myself: “This painting could be a fascinating cover for a JAFF novel” and then, Susan Adriani comes with this story and THIS cover! It’s such a charming coincidence!
(Susan, if you read this, you can take a lot of inspiration from the Madrazo family where, in addition to Raimundo, there were another members as excellent as him).
And, speaking of the story, well, Meredith, you caught my interest and I’m very curious about the “new” member of the Bennet family and how Lydia’s mistake changed the future of everyone
I love second chances and I hope the Yorkshire scenario provides a happy setting

    1. Hi Teresa – that’s such a wonderful coincidence – thank you for mentioning it! I will absolutely be looking into Raimundo de Madrazo’s work – this painting was such a happy find thanks to Amy D’Orazio at Quills and Quartos. The moment she showed it to me, I knew it would be perfect for this story. I hope you enjoy reading Yours!
