TYPE OF NOVEL: Pride and Prejudice Variation

THE PREMISE: Elizabeth slips on ice in London and injures her ankle. The doctor does not permit her to travel back to the Gardiners, and so she must convalesce for two weeks at the home she was brought to after her fall…which as bad luck would have it…happens to be Mr. Darcy’s home in Berkley Square. Mr. Darcy is not at all upset about Elizabeth’s forced captivity in his home and proves to be everything that is hospitable and solicitous. While Mr. Darcy’s sister has decided to try her hand at matchmaking with her new friend…

WHAT I LOVED:

  • Forced Proximity Premise: I’m always a fan of forced proximity premises, and I think they are all the more interesting when someone is injured or sick – is that weird to say? Because it means that one person is not able to do what they normally do and that another person is taking care of them. It is so amusing to see Elizabeth and Darcy in these roles – especially because they are both very independent and used to taking care of themselves. I thought Elizabeth slipping on ice near Mr. Darcy’s residence a very clever ruse to bring about an entertaining and intriguing premise.
  • Georgiana is Adorable: We all know that Georgiana has a romantic heart. And while her heart was badly bruised by Wickham, I can see her still being interested in romance and delighted by the prospect of playing matchmaker. She was quite adorable in her eagerness and single-mindedness on finding Elizabeth a match. I loved how Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth humored her efforts and willingly played along. And I appreciated the deeper understanding of her feelings, and inferred true motivations for her efforts.
  • Elizabeth’s and Mr. Darcy’s Lists: One thing about me is…I love lists. And if you haven’t noticed…I love making lists. 😁 Like we see Mr. Darcy and Caroline Bingley do at Netherfield Park, Elizabeth gradually develops a list of marital requirements for any potential match. I loved seeing her determine the qualities and characteristics that she wanted on her list. In addition, I loved the irony of both her and Mr. Darcy realizing that he possesses/already exhibits each requirement, and I loved their flirty teasing about Mr. Darcy’s list.
  • Suitors and Manly Pursuits: Some new characters are introduced as Elizabeth’s potential matches. It was interesting take a step into Mr. Darcy’s world and see how and where he knows these men. And it was fun to see how Elizabeth liked them and how they liked her. These bachelors were well drawn and distinct. I thought their manly interests and pursuits were a balanced contrast to the women who are at home – quiet and confined.
  • Mr. Darcy’s Struggle: With his feelings for Elizabeth growing while Elizabeth is under his roof, Mr. Darcy is playing a dangerous game. Especially since he has no intention of acting on his feelings. But what happens when he finally capitulates and  decides he wants to act on his feelings…is it too late? Was too much said and done?? There is some suffering for our proud and reserved Mr. Darcy… and dare I say it might be deserved. I enjoyed the moment when Mr. Darcy decided to fight for Elizabeth, and the honorable actions he took.

WHAT COULD’VE BEEN BETTER:

  • Really can’t think of anything

FINAL THOUGHTS:

😆  When the last man in the world you could ever be prevailed upon to marry possesses each and every one of your requirements for love

♟️ What happens when you have three bachelors to choose from…but end up falling for someone who wasn’t even playing the game?

👏🏼 Heather Moll has such a talent for swoony and captivating romances – and this one is sure to be a favorite with many readers!

  1. sounds wonderful!

Question, It has been some time since I’ve seen giveaway winners announced. Are you still doing a post announcing winners or is it email only now.

What has also happened to your monthly lists? I thought you were still doing them but list was not going to be as long.

  2. When this came out I devoured it! Well anything by Heather Moll, really! This story was so cute and Darcy was so adorable! Really fighting his feelings but all along they really consume him. I loved seeing more Georgiana and how her character really developed but also was that lovesick young teenager wanting to see a friend find love.

  3. I loved this book read it with glee.
