Where the Waters Agree – Susan Adriani

What If the Bennets Encountered Mr. Darcy on a Seaside Holiday?

Rating: 4.5 out of 5 stars

Source: Gift from Publisher

TYPE OF NOVEL: Pride and Prejudice Variation

THE PREMISE: After Jane’s wedding to Mr. Bingley, the Bennet women travel to Evermore on Sea for a seaside holiday. And by coincidence, a troubled and almost-resigned Mr. Darcy, who is currently contemplating a marriage of convenience, seeks retreat and respite in the same coastal local. What happens when Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy encounter each other for the three months after his disastrous proposal…

MY THOUGHTS: A sojourn to the seaside, an unexpected encounter, a newfound friendship, and a resurgence of ardent yearning and burgeoning hope… Sounds fantastic, doesn’t it? Well, if you have read anything by Susan Adriani, you know it is!

I loved the tentative and amiable encounters between Darcy and Elizabeth. It begins with a lot of awkwardness and apology, but soon grows into confiding conversations and playful banter. And all the while, beneath the surface, feelings are evolving and growing irrepressible. I loved Darcy’s and Elizabeth’s gentle journey in this beautiful locale. However, I did feel like there was a big scene missing after Elizabeth’s declaration (Gah! don’t fade to black on us there!)

But for Mr. Darcy there are some troubled waters… His cousin, Viscount Emerson, decides to help Darcy with his possible decision to submit himself to his aunt’s desires by inviting himself, Lady Catherine, and Anne de Bourgh to stay with Mr. Darcy in Evermore on Sea. Although in actuality, they don’t cause Mr. Darcy too much difficulties. Mr. Darcy also has to contend with Mr. Drummond, who shows interest in pursuing Elizabeth, and Mr. Bingley, who has severed their friendship. These complications added some exciting tension to the story. I especially enjoyed the meddlesome and invasive Viscount Emerson and his teasing.

FINAL THOUGHTS:

🌊 The tide is high but Mr. Darcy is holding on!

🏖️  Where the Waters Agree is the perfect Austenesque book to enjoy during an afternoon on the beach!

💗  Sensitive, tender, and romantic – I continue to love Susan Adriani’s prose and style.

  1. This was a lovely book. The Viscount Emerson’s antics added to Darcy’s angst and frustration. Every time he “helped” Darcy there was a mess to contend with. I liked this more relaxed atmosphere where Darcy and Elizabeth were able to reconcile and come to recognize their true feelings. Definitely worth a read!

  2. Thanks so much, Meredith for your review 🙂

    A big hug, my friend

  3. Yet another delightful story by Susan! Darcy is obviously assisted in his relationship by his cousin …….not! Thankfully he still manages to meet with Elizabeth and their relationship continues to grow more positive! I absolutely loved this low angst story and will be rereading it again and again.

  4. I have read a few of Susan Adriani’s books and I really like them. I liked this one, as it was a light read so to speak, but still had ODC soul searching. I love Emerson, what a trouble maker! He is such fun. This story made me smile, with its comedic relief. And yes definitely a holiday by the sea kind of read. Thanks Meredith.

  5. I’m really looking forward to reading this one! I love seaside stories. Beautiful cover by the way, just gorgeous.
