~ From the Author ~

Thank you for welcoming me back to Austenesque Reviews with another new release cover to share. Ever since I went to Derbyshire in 2019, I wanted to set a summer story in the Peak district. The timing of Elizabeth’s canon trip with the Gardiners was perfect for that, so with a few changes—Lydia kept from Brighton, Bingley married to Jane, and the Bingleys traveling instead of the Gardiners—I had the beginning of a novel. What is better than a post-Hunsford Pemberley meet-up? But with all the obstacles gone, it was going to be a short and sweet and possibly boring story.

So, I killed someone.

In An Appearance of Goodness, amid a large party at Pemberley and while trying to learn if Elizabeth might love him after all, Darcy is thrust into the role of amateur sleuth after everyone else accepts a death at Pemberley as accidental. He and Elizabeth have to work together—and fall in love—while determining who at Pemberley might be a murderer. Easy, right? There are familiar faces and a few original characters at Pemberley that summer after Hunsford, and one of them will be a murderer. While there’s violence done to our poor victim, it’s much closer to a cozy-style mystery than a gory thriller.

Evelyne Labelle at Carpe Librum Design designed the cover. She designed the covers for Nine Ladies and An Affectionate Heart, and once again, I think she’s captured the feel of the story perfectly. Usually, she sends me a draft based on the blurb and a few elements I mention, and then we tweak it back and forth until it fits. She sent me this design and it was flawless from the start. I didn’t change a single thing.

An Appearance of Goodness is a mystery wrapped in a romance, and it isn’t easy to convey both an ominous feeling of murder as well as the hopeful feeling of a romantic happy ever after. Derbyshire has green rolling hills and bold rocks, and the landscape comes through in this cover. The summer of 1812 actually was rainy and cold, and the cover hints at the brewing storm and floods that feature in the story. But, at the center, are Darcy and Elizabeth—together as they should be.

The An Appearance of Goodness eBook is on preorder now and goes on sale October 1, and the paperback is available now.

~ Book Description ~

Can a Derbyshire meeting lead to love or will Pemberley be plunged into mystery?

In the rainy summer of 1812, Mr Darcy returns to Pemberley with a large party in the hope that coming home will help him recover from his disappointment. He lost Elizabeth Bennet’s good opinion, but Darcy did all he could to rectify his errors. Meanwhile, Elizabeth hopes that travelling with a newly-wed Jane and Bingley will raise her spirits and distract her from thoughts of Darcy.

When a misunderstanding causes the Bingley party and Darcy’s to spend a fortnight together at Pemberley, both Elizabeth and Darcy wonder if the other could love them. When the season’s wet and cold weather causes flooding throughout Derbyshire, Darcy’s attention reluctantly shifts from his guests–and Elizabeth–to managing the tragedy.

But when someone drowns and Darcy refuses to believe their death was an accident from the storm, he and Elizabeth must work together to uncover the truth before his houseguests leave, and before anyone else gets hurt.

Content note: mature content, mild violence.

And without further ado….here is the big reveal!!!

(Expected release date October 1st)

And the full wrap…

That moody sky tho… ☁️

I love the dark purple and the ominous clouds. It definitely matches the murder mystery vibes of the premise. 🗡

Elizabeth and Darcy on the bridge is so perfect – like they are a united front against the turmoil swirling all around them. 💕

I’m dying to know who Ms. Moll decided to kill! 😆

What do you think, friends? 🤔

  1. I’m so excited to read a new Heather Moll book!!! I love all of Heather’s books. I just recently listened to Two More Days at Netherfield and was surprised how much I’d forgotten about that story-marvelous! And just have to say how An Affectionate Heart had me going through the tissues like mad. Sigh. This new one sounds so yummy.

Congratulations on your new book-baby Heather. All good wishes and blessings on its success.

  2. I love a good P&P mystery and this one looks great. The cover is as dramatic as can be and it suggests the ambiance perfectly. I expected to see something in the water! Congratulations to Heather Moll foe this new book and I’m looking forward to reading it.

  3. I had the honour of reading an arc of this book and can promise an excellent read. The cover is indeed perfect, with storm clouds, the bridge, and the hopeful prospect of love depicted with the couple. The colours are perfect. Congratulations to Heather for what I am sure will be a resounding success.

  4. I love the cover and the idea of Darcy and Elizabeth solving a mystery together. I’m looking forward to reading this!

  5. It is a beautiful cover, with such a lush vista and the stormy clouds so pivotal to the story.
Congratulations Heather on your new release!

  6. I’m a big fan of Heather Moll’s work! Nine Ladies is definitively in my top of all time JAFF. I’ve already hit the preorder button and I’m impatiently waiting for this to come out now. The cover is gorgeous, I love those moody purples!

    1. This was such a treat to hear! And how awesome that you love Nine Ladies. I hope you like this one too!

  7. I do love this cover, it looks like a normal Derbyshire summer I’m afraid! Fortunately this year we have had a dry, mostly sunny summer (occasionally a little too hot for me but I’m not mentioning it! 🙂 )
So we have Darcy and Elizabeth working together? In that case the floods and murder victim are actually a blessing as they seem to have helped ODC get back together! OK so I do feel sorry for the victim as I assume it isn’t Caroline?
Good luck with this new book. 🙂

    1. Thanks! And yes, it will be in KU when it first comes out October 1. Thanks for letting me know you’re as KU reader.

  8. Thanks, Meredith for hosting another amazing cover reveal. And, man, what a cover. I wouldn’t change anything either. It is perfect and you really sense the mystery. I think her looking over her shoulder is sort of a fear thing. It sort of says is something coming? Ooh, I can’t wait to read it. I wish Heather all manner of success with the launch of this new work. Blessings.

  9. Hi Heather!
A stormy atmosphere is the perfect scenario to set a mystery plot. I really like the cover and their colors!
I find very appealling the combination of mystery and love so I can’t wait to put my hands on it. Meredith wonders who you are killing and I have three possible names: Wickham, Collins and Lady Catherine. I suppose that everyone would be suspicious 😉
    Good luck with the release!

    1. I have wanted to kill all of those characters at one point or another! Lol. Thanks for your well wishes Teresa!

  10. Superbe! The purple hues, the heavy atmosphere, the river, the bridge, the purple pelisse… Everything just points to a passage or scene from the book! But even you didn’t know the story, there is such a veil of gothic and mystery….I am absolutely in love with it!!
I am sure your release will rock, Heather! But I wish you the best of the release days, nonetheless!

  11. I love the sky and the bridge in the cover. And the review got me intrigued to read the book. Congratulation on you new book!

  12. Very late here but I love how you captured the foggish quality and gloom suitable for s murder mystery without being graphic. Really love it overall!
