Cover Reveal + Giveaway for Faults of Understanding!!!

Hi friends! You are in for a treat today! The lovely Jennifer Altman is getting ready to release her second Pride and Prejudice novel next month! (Woot woot!) 🎉🎉

Jennifer’s first book, To Conquer Pride, was a fantastic debut that explores one of my favorite types of situations – Elizabeth and Darcy being trapped together. And I am so thrilled that Jennifer Altman’s next release explores another one of my favorite scenarios – Darcy and Elizabeth marrying early without one of them being in love! 🙌🏼

Jennifer is here to share the cover for her new release, Faults of Understanding! We hope you enjoy! 📗

~ From the Author ~

Hi Meredith! Thanks so much for hosting the cover reveal for my second Austenesque novel, Faults of Understanding! Since you were kind enough to hold the cover reveal for my debut, To Conquer Pride, which released in the fall of 2018, I thought it would be fun to keep up the tradition and reveal my second book cover here as well. 🙂

The cover was designed by the wonderfully talented Susan Adriani at CloudCat Design (who also created the cover for To Conquer Pride), but this time around, I think I gave Susan a run for her money! Since I used a Regency era painting for my first cover, I wanted to stick with something similar for my second book, and happened to come across an image I loved—a painting entitled Summer Evening at Skagen by artist Peder Severin Krøyer. Even though the time period is a bit later than Regency (1892), I was captivated by the beautiful details of the woman’s dress and hat, and was especially excited about the fact that the image featured a dog, as a dog plays a key role in my novel. The only issue was that the setting of the original painting was the seaside, and my book takes place mostly at Pemberley, in Derbyshire, nowhere near the sea. So, the challenge became taking that image and completely altering the background. To be honest, I wasn’t sure if this was even possible, or if I would like the way the updated image looked. But Susan worked her magic, finding the perfect painting to use as a backdrop, and I absolutely love the finished product. In fact, I told Susan I think her reworking looks even better than the original painting—no offense to the artist!

I hope you all like it as much as I do! 🙂

The novel is scheduled to release on May 27th, and should be available for preorder soon. I’ll be doing a brief blog tour (schedule below), where I will be sharing excerpts and other details, so I hope you’ll come join the fun!

~ Book Description ~

When Fitzwilliam Darcy makes an impetuous offer of marriage to Miss Elizabeth Bennet, he is convinced they have as good a chance as anyone for a harmonious life together. That is, until an overheard conversation changes everything, and Darcy realizes he is now joined in perpetuity to a woman who loathes the very sight of him.

Elizabeth Bennet’s expectations for matrimonial accord were never very high, having accepted Mr. Darcy’s proposal in a fit of pique, not love. Still, she is determined to make the best of her situation, despite having tied herself to such an arrogant, disagreeable man.

But life at Pemberley is not at all what she imagined, and Elizabeth soon finds herself with more questions than answers about the enigmatic gentleman she agreed to wed.

Trapped in a marriage founded on misunderstandings, Fitzwilliam and Elizabeth Darcy struggle with deepening attraction while confronting self-doubt and old betrayals. But is love enough to heal the wounds of the past? What will it take for two people bound by duty to find their way home to one another?

And without further ado….here is the big reveal!!!

(expected release date: May 27th)

Oooh! I love it! Both look like they are enjoying a beautiful walk together. 👒

Kudos to Susan. She really blended the two images together so seamlessly. 🖼

Elizabeth accepts Mr. Darcy’s proposal and there is a puppers?! I love the sound of this already! 🐕‍🦺

I can only imagine the angst you have in store for us with this premise, Jennifer! I cannot wait! 🤭

What do you think friends? 🤔

      1. LOL. Yes, nobody wants that! Thanks for stopping by, Alias, and best of luck with the giveaway!

  1. Just lovely! Susan is as talented at this as she is at writing! The Truth About Mr Darcy is such a favourite of mine, I had to buy the kindle copy when my paperback almost disintegrated with constant reading!
Elizabeth looks just lovely with her faithful companion by her side? I do hope they find their love for each other sooner rather than later?
Thank you for sharing this beautiful cover Meredith and good luck Jennifer.

    1. Thanks so much, Glynis! Yes, D & E will have a guaranteed HEA, and I won’t make you wait until the very end of the book, either. 🙂 Thanks for stopping by and for your kind words.

  2. That cover is breathtaking, and it sure does show what a gifted cover designer is capable of with the graphic design programs these days. Kudos to Susan Adriani. Best of luck on your release, Jennifer, though I’m sure you won’t need it–your new book is widely anticipated already. Once again, thanks to Meredith for hosting such a momentous event.

    1. Thank you so much, Suzan! Yes, it’s amazing what can be accomplished in graphic design if one knows what they are doing! I was shocked at how seamlessly these two images were blended together. And thank you for the well wishes. I hope the book lives up to expectations! 🙂

  3. A beautiful cover, the art work is stunning. Both hopeful and melancholy at the same time. Looking forward to the release.

    1. Thank you, Michell! Yes, calm and happy, but a little melancholy too, I think. Thanks for stopping by, and best of luck with the giveaway!

    1. Thanks so much, Mary! I hope you enjoy the book! 🙂 And yes, I especially love the colors in the cover image. So bright and cheerful.

  4. Echoing what others have said about the beautiful cover! Great work, Jennifer and Susan! And congrats, Jennifer, on this upcoming release. I am so excited to read this one, as I also love a good early marriage scenario. So much room for these two characters to learn about each other! Thanks, Meredith, for hosting this cover reveal, and please don’t enter me in the giveaway, as I will pre-order this book when it is available. Thank you!

    1. Thank you so much, Christina! I’m so happy with the way the cover turned out, and I am ALL ABOUT the early marriage scenario! I hope the book lives up to expectations. 🙂

    2. Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts, Christina!! That is exactly why I love the early marriage scenario too. It is always interesting to see characters work out of order or backwards.

    1. Thanks so much, Pam! I’m glad you like the cover and hope you enjoy the book, 🙂 Best of luck in the giveaway!

  6. Thank you so much for hosting my cover reveal, Meredith! All props to Susan for doing such a fabulous job with this cover (and for putting up with me!). 🙂 In addition to being pretty, I feel like the image (and even the font) captures the spirit of the book perfectly, and could not be happier with the finished design.

  7. Yay!! I’m so excited for this new novel by Jennifer. I loved To Conquer Pride and Faults of Understanding sounds so good. The cover art is beautiful!! Susan did a great job of changing and enhancing Jennifer’s vision of the original artwork and it is a stunning result. Congratulations!! –Leslie

    1. Thank you, Leslie! I’m excited that you’re excited. 🙂 I’m so glad you enjoyed To Conquer Pride. Hopefully this next one will live up to expectations. And yes, all credit to Susan for doing such a wonderful job with this cover. Thanks for stopping by, and best of luck in the giveaway!

  8. It’s an interesting choice to show only part of a woman on the cover. I guess Elizabeth’s head hasn’t caught up to where her body is yet!

    1. Hahaha! Yes, I am a big proponent of chopping people’s head’s off on book covers. 🙂 If you take a look at the cover for my debut, To Conquer Pride, you will see I did the same thing. I’m not a huge fan of faces on book covers because I like to leave each character’s appearance up to the reader’s imagination. So, I think it will always be headless people for me! 🙂 Thanks for stopping by and best of luck with the giveaway.

    1. Thank you, Katie! Best of luck with the giveaway and I hope you enjoy the book if/when you get to read. 🙂

  9. Gorgeous cover, Jen. Susan seems to outdo herself with every cover she designs. And the story sounds pretty interesting too. Very glad to have a new book from you!

    1. Thanks so much, Jan! That means a lot to me, coming from you. 🙂 And yes, Susan was a superstar with this cover, and a delight to work with to boot.

  10. This cover is beautiful! I like not seeing all of Elizabeth’s face, it lets me use my imagination. I love the early marriage scenario and stories with pets are always fun, especially dogs! Looking forward to reading this.

    1. Thank you, Kim! Yes! I am a big fan of not showing people’s faces on book covers so readers can use their imagination. Some folks may find chopping people’s heads off weird, but it’s my thing. 🙂 Best of luck with the giveaway and I hope you enjoy the book!

    1. Aww, thank you so much! I’m so glad you enjoyed To Conquer Pride, and hope you like this one just as much. And yes, I’m really happy with the way the cover turned out! Thanks for stopping by, and best of luck in the giveaway!

    1. Thank you so much, Melissa! I’m so glad you like the cover and truly appreciate the good wishes. Best of luck with the giveaway, and I hope you enjoy the book!

  12. LOVE IT!!! I hope the pooch is on the story!! Can’t wait for it to drop!! Wanna read it asap!! Thanks and congratulations!

    1. Thank you so much, Char! I love it too. 🙂 And, yes! The pooch is most definitely in the story. Hopefully the next month will fly by and you will be reading the book before you know it. 🙂 I’ll also be sharing some excerpts along the way if you follow the blog tour. Thanks for stopping by, and best of luck with the giveaway!

  13. What a thought provoking cover! You wonder what she is thinking and hoping as she looks off in the distance. I love her sidekick too! Looking forward to reading this and finding out how Elizabeth and Darcy finally come to realize they are meant for each other! Congratulations!

    1. Thank you, Carole! Yes, I agree. There is a certain wistfulness to the image that really appealed to me, and seemed to work well with the story. Best of luck with the giveaway, and I hope you enjoy the book. 🙂

  14. Gorgeous Cover. Beautiful colors and an almost dream-like quality. Maybe one CAN judge a book by its cover in some cases. LOL. Looking forward to reading it!

    1. Thank you, Amy! Yes, I love the vibrancy of the colors, but there’s a wistfulness to the image, too. Which really works well with the story. And I don’t know about you, but I do tend to judge books by their covers. 😉 I’m just glad people seem to be liking this one as much as I do. I hope you enjoy the book!

  15. Jennifer, I am so excited that your reveal day is finally here! It’s been wonderful to have had another opportunity to work with you. Designing your covers is a pleasure for me and I enjoyed every minute of it. (Now for the back cover, lol!) 🙂

  18. I have loved Peder Severin Krøyer works since I discovered him on an art postcard years ago. Susan’s rendition of one of his paintings for your cover is beautiful. I’m looking forward to reading Faults of Understanding. I read To Conquer Pride on Kindle Unlimited but enjoyed it so much I purchased it.

    1. Oh, wow! Thank you so much, Maddy! Hearing that you read TCP on KU and then liked it enough to purchase made my day! I hope you enjoy this one just as much. 🙂 I was not at all familiar with P.S. Krøyer before I happened upon this particular painting. I need to rectify that by seeking out some more of his work! Best of luck with the giveaway, and I hope you enjoy the book!

  19. Oh, what a lovely cover. I agree… since I loved her previous cover, this one is just as beautiful. Oh, I want that dress or maybe just the hat. I love hats. Oh, and the dog and… well, I am just too excited. Poor Elizabeth. Oh, and poor Darcy, bless his heart. He was so in love and then to find out she hates him. Dang. I must find out what happens next. Thanks, Meredith for hosting another cover reveal. You have the best job. Also thanks to our author Jennifer and her publisher on the generous giveaway. Good luck to all in the drawing. Everyone, stay safe, and healthy.

    1. Thank you so much!! I know, poor Darcy. 🙁 But I promise a HEA for all concerned. Thank you so much for stopping by and for the kind words. I wish you the best of luck in the giveaway and I hope you enjoy the book!

    1. Thank you! I’m so glad you enjoyed To Conquer Pride! I hope you like this one just as much. 🙂 Best of luck in the giveaway!

  20. Lovely cover and thanks for a chance to win a copy of this book. I plan to read it even if I don’t win a copy. I do like reading of marriages where there is not always love at the beginning, i.e., FMS or arranged marriages.

  21. I’m just rereading “To conquer pride”, so delighted to see you have a new book. The cover is gorgeous.

    1. Thank you so much, Gill! You made my day. No higher praise than to hear someone is RE-reading my book. 🙂 I hope you enjoy the new one just as much. Best of luck in the giveaway!

    1. Thank you, Lois! Yes, I’d say there is a fair bit of angst in this one, LOL. But a guaranteed HEA for Darcy and Elizabeth, of course! 🙂 Thanks so much for stopping by to see my cover, and best of luck in the giveaway.

I very much enjoyed “To Conquer Pride” and look forward to your second book. Your covers are lovely – i am turned off by the modern depictions of the Regency period.
    Best wishes for the release.

    1. Thank you so much! I’m so happy you enjoyed To Conquer Pride, and hope you like this book just as much. 🙂 Yes, I enjoy using paintings on my book covers and have been lucky so far to have found images I really loved (and to have found a cover designer who could really make them into something special). Thanks for stopping by, and best of luck with the giveaway!

    1. Oh my goodness! Thank you so much for the kind words, Aimee. You made my day! Hopefully the next few weeks will fly by and you’ll be reading before you know it. 🙂 Best of luck in the giveaway and I hope you enjoy the book.

  27. Oh my, I love this cover! The colors are just divine. You and Susan are a great collaborative team. I like the fact that there’s a dog in the plot too. We’re cat people in this house but dogs in stories are so much more believable as rescuers, menace detectors, faithful confidants, etc. I enjoy any new spin on the Darcy and Elizabeth story and I can’t remember very many with dogs.

Congratulations Jennifer, best of luck on the launch of your new book baby. I’m so looking forward to reading it! I think I must go back and read To Conquer Pride again. <3

  32. Congratulations on the upcoming publication of your second Austenesque novel, Jennifer. I adore the stunning cover. Although I’m usually quite a stickler of authenticity, I can overlook the lady’s dress on the cover. I would love to read it as I’m anxious how they will get through this obstacle.

  33. I really love this cover! That dog and the lady looking out in the distance, plus the color combination is falls l fabulous. Thank you for sharing that cover and for the chance of the giveaway.
