Hi dear readers!! Happy Friday! I’m really excited to welcome back author Brigid Huey to Austenesque Reviews today! This month Brigid is celebrating her second release – Interrupted Plans – which sounds fantastic! I love the idea of this type of change taking place because the meeting at Pemberley is such a pivotal moment for both Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy!
Brigid is here sharing an excerpt from her new release, Interrupted Plan. We hope you enjoy! 🤗
Thank you so much for hosting me today, Meredith! Austenesque Reviews was the first JAFF site I found when I discovered the wonderful world of Austenesque Fiction years ago, so I’m very happy to be back today with my first full-length novel, Interrupted Plans. Here I’m sharing a conversation between Darcy and his sister Georgiana. Darcy seeks Georgiana’s counsel and is pleasantly surprised by her astute understanding of the situation. Enjoy!
“You have deciphered the identity of the lady in question, I see.”
“I was never in any doubt of her identity, Fitzwilliam.”
“Am I so obvious?”
“You mentioned her in your letters from Hertfordshire and then again when you visited our aunt in Kent.”
“My mentioning a lady is enough to make her remarkable?”
“You never mention ladies, Fitzwilliam.”
He smiled sadly. She was correct, of course. He had not been able to stop himself from mentioning Elizabeth to Georgiana—just as he had not been able to stop himself imagining them as sisters living happily together at Pemberley.
“Miss Elizabeth…does she still seem resolved against—”
“I do not know, and that is what has my mind in a state of utter confusion. I spoke with her this afternoon and she seemed…regretful. She has turned my world askew. I know not what to think.”
“You love her, Fitzwilliam.”
He looked at his sister, still so young. Yet here she sat, a young lady of sixteen, knowing so much about matters of the heart—much more than he.
“God help me, I do. I love her more now than I did last April.”
He put his head in his hands, succumbing for a moment to the wave of confused elation and despair that had threatened to overwhelm him since Elizabeth had disappeared into her uncle’s townhouse.
A gentle hand rested upon his shoulder. “Will the lady be in town for the holidays? Shall we invite her for tea? Perhaps her family might share an evening with us? I could arrange…something.”
Her youthful uncertainty had returned and, despite the upset of the afternoon, Darcy smiled. How good she was to try and help him. He knew full well that she hated social engagements as much as he did.
“She is returning to her home in Hertfordshire for the Christmas holidays,” he said.
“Let us go to Netherfield, then!” Georgiana suggested with sudden brightness. Evidently, she remembered Bingley’s invitation.
“You believe I should pursue her despite my past actions and her current protestations?”
“Brother, I know I made a grave error in judgement in the past, but I cannot help but believe that, when Miss Elizabeth looks at you, it is the look of one in love. Why should you not pursue her? Let us go to Netherfield.”
Ah! I so love when Mr. Darcy confides in Georgiana and she gives her big brother some advice! I am eager to see how Georgiana continues to assist Mr. Darcy when they arrive in Hertfordshire! 💕
~ Book Description ~
Suppose Elizabeth Bennet never visited Pemberley…
It is October of 1812. Elizabeth Bennet and her family have seen dramatic changes in the past few months—none of them welcome. Her sister Jane needs a fresh start, and Elizabeth is no less eager to leave behind the pain and confusion of not accepting Mr. Darcy’s proposal.
Fitzwilliam Darcy has not seen Elizabeth since he offered for her—and she adamantly refused him. When she appears in London, he is determined to gain her friendship and make amends. When a carriage mishap throws them together, Darcy does all he can to demonstrate his changed behavior.
Though their renewed acquaintance seems to be growing into a genuine friendship, a family secret constrains Elizabeth. As she falls deeper in love with the man she rejected, does she dare tell him the truth?

Oooo I like that excerpt. I always like it when Georgiana or Col. Fitzwilliam give Darcy encouragement to fight for his lady. Would we call that a secondary premise? Supporting characters, yay! Beautiful cover, Janet Taylor.
