Interview with Karen Cox and Emily Rahm!!!

Hi friends!! I hope you are enjoying a great weekend! I am very excited to welcome back author Karen Cox to Austenesque Reviews today! Karen is gearing up to release an audiobook for her lovely Emma retelling –  I Could Write a Book. Which I read (and loved) last year! Karen is here today sharing a lovely interview between herself and her audiobook’s narrator – Emily Rahm! We hope you enjoy!!

Hello gentle readers!

I’m so happy to be back here at Austenesque Reviews. Thanks for inviting me, Meredith!

I’m stopping by because I have some exciting news—an audiobook version of my 1970s Emma adaptation, titled I Could Write a Book, is available on the Amazon, Apple Books and Audible platforms!

I Could Write a Book tells the story of Emma Woodhouse—handsome, clever, and rich, as we all know, right? She’s the daughter of old money in Kentucky Bluegrass Horse Country, circa 1975. Emma considers herself a modern woman; she’s finishing her degree in psychology and taking care of her father’s health problems with grace and ease. She knows what’s right for everyone: her friend Tim Elton, who wants to be a politician; her beloved aunt, Nina Taylor; her brand new best friend, Mary Jo Smith; and even her oldest, bestest friend, George Knightley.

George, whose brother is married to Emma’s sister, has also been in and out of Emma’s life, even when they were kids. He went across the country to California for college, but he returned, attending law school in Kentucky and trying to fulfill his destiny—running the Knightley and Woodhouse law firm and managing the sprawling Donwell Horse Farms.

I loved writing the comedy of manners in the insular, mannerly community of Central Kentucky in the 70s. It’s the perfect story for an audiobook rendering, and that’s why I’m so thrilled to introduce you all today to Emily Rahm, I Could Write a Book ‘s narrator.

Emily and I sat down recently to discuss voice over work, how acting helps with story narrations, and why Emma ? It was so much fun to chat with her, so I wanted to share the conversation with all of you as well.

Without further ado…

Isn’t she great fun? She had so much fun with the characters in I Could Write a Book, and it really shows in the narration. Y’all are going to love it!

I Could Write a Book audio will be available on Amazon, Apple Books, and Audible platforms very soon!!

Such a lovely interview, ladies! It was so interesting to learn more about Emily and the process of creating an audiobook! Karen, I am so glad you are releasing your first audiobook as I know many readers love audiobooks and will be thrilled to have the opportunity to listen to I Could Write a Book!! Yay! Thanks so much for sharing!

Author Bio

Karen M Cox is an award-winning author of five novels accented with history and romance: 1932, Find Wonder in All Things, Undeceived, I Could Write a Book, and Son of a Preacher Man, and a novella, The Journey Home, a companion piece to 1932. She also loves writing short stories and has contributed to four Austen-inspired anthologies: “Northanger Revisited 2015” appears in Sun-Kissed: Effusions of Summer, “I, Darcy” in The Darcy Monologues, “An Honest Man” in Dangerous to Know: Jane Austen’s Rakes and Gentleman Rogues, and “A Nominal Mistress” in Rational Creatures.

I Could Write a Book is her first audiobook.

Karen was born in Everett WA, which was the result of coming into the world as the daughter of a United States Air Force Officer. She had a nomadic childhood, with stints in North Dakota, Tennessee, and New York State before settling in her family’s home state of Kentucky at the age of eleven. She lives in a quiet little Central Kentucky town with her husband, where she works as a pediatric speech pathologist, encourages her children, and spoils her granddaughter.

Channeling Jane Austen’s Emma, Karen has let a plethora of interests lead her to begin many hobbies and projects she doesn’t quite finish, but she aspires to be a great reader and an excellent walker—like Elizabeth Bennet.

  1. Karen, Meredith and Emily! What a great interview. I loved hearing about the process and look forward to listening to the final. Best wishes with your new audio book!

    1. Thanks, Jennifer! Audiobook production is very different from ebook and print, at least it has been for me. It’s an exciting adventure though 🙂

  2. That was a fabulous interview! I loved how invested she is in the characters and understanding of what is even relevant in today’s world. I like how she addressed performance for inner monologues because as an audible listener/customer, I agree that is often tricky to determine or understand separate from the written word. (Like poorly placed punctuation, inner thoughts might not be understood as such. So I think she is smart for how she addressed it.) Can’t wait to hear this in its entirety. I loved this book and think Emily seems a fabulous talent! Perfect fit!

    1. Yes, Emily really thought through how to address those issues, and most all of it was on her own. Those were questions I didn’t even think of! She is a great fit for Emma and crew 🙂

  3. I did read this book and gave it a 5 star review. I have enjoyed Karen’s books and I do believe I have read most of those. I do like reading about various authors. Thanks for sharing. I listen to audible books while walking in the mornings.
