Remembrance of the Past – Lory Lilian + GIVEAWAY

Falling in Love at Pemberley

Rating: 4.5 out of 5 stars

What if Elizabeth encountered Darcy in London before she left on her tour with the Gardiners? What if Darcy invited Elizabeth and her family to Pemberley as his guests? What if there was another important woman in Darcy’s life that many expected him to marry?

When Elizabeth re-encounters Mr. Darcy in the company of Mrs. Gardiner, Georgiana, and Colonel Fitzwilliam, she is sent into a spiral of confusion and turmoil. Seeing Darcy again, observing his easy and amiable manner, witnessing his intense gazes – she doesn’t know what to make of it all! Why is Mr. Darcy so altered? How badly has she misjudged him? Just as Elizabeth starts to acknowledge that she finds Darcy’s company pleasant and desirable, she is introduced to the celebrated and stunning, Lady Cassandra, who just happens to be the Darcys’ oldest childhood friend. Outspoken, daring, and independent, Lady Cassandra and her intimate relationship with the Darcys causes a lot of consternation for Elizabeth, yet in the end helps her discover the leadings of her own heart…

Boy, Ms. Lilian sure likes to stir the pot! Poor Elizabeth doesn’t know what to make of Darcy, or Lady Cassandra – is she a friend or foe? After reading many novels where Darcy is filled with doubt, jealousy, and dejection, it was a fresh experience to see Elizabeth be the one who suffers a little. I took great pleasure in witnessing Elizabeth’s reactions to Darcy, the blossoming of her regard, and her torment when she feels they can never be together. The love story between Darcy and Elizabeth is arrestingly beautiful and tender in the variation. I especially loved the glimpse into their blissful yet busy married life. (Note: due to several intimate and romantic scenes between characters, I’d recommend this novel for Mature Audiences only).

Although Lady Cassandra steals much of the spotlight in this variation, there are a few other minor characters that are definitely worth mentioning. Lory Lilian’s original creation Lord Markham is a notorious and dangerous rake who seems to be courting Caroline Bingley, but really has designs on someone else. His wickedness seems to know no end, he’s even more vile than Wickham! Two characters that I adored were the hilariously mismatched Mr. and Mrs. Bennet. I was “excessively diverted” by Mr. Bennet’s encounter with Lady Catherine! That’s right, all the Longbourn women were out of the house when the great lady came to call! I think Mr. Bennet handled her quite well, though: “Sphere? What Sphere? … I am afraid we do not have a sphere, Lady Catherine…” And I just loved Mrs. Bennet’s reaction to hearing her daughter is engaged to Mr. Darcy! Where is Hill when she really needs her?

With secret marriages, duels, rejected proposals, head injuries, and a delusional maniac – Remembrance of the Past is a most exciting and engrossing read! It will satisfy your hunger for romance, humor, drama, and Darcy! I highly recommend!

  1. Ooh, I’d love to win this! I read it awhile back and loved it. Normally I dislike when there is a legit competitor for Darcy’s affections but I liked Lady Cassandra, and also Colonel Fitzwilliam’s story.

    Thanks for the giveaway! 🙂

  2. I really liked ‘The Journey’ so I’m looking forward to trying this one.

  3. Thanks for the review and the giveaway! I enjoyed the characters and the story of Rainy Days. After your review, this one sounds like another book by Lori Lilian that I will enjoy.

  4. This sounds like a really good read, and one I just might HAVE to read! A new and good take on Pride and Prejudice! Wonderful that it is time for Elizabeth to feel a little doubtful of Darcy and their future together.
Lady Cassandra sounds a bit like Elizabeth, but I look forward to see if she is a friend or foe!
A character worse than Wickham, – that is going to be fun to see what problems he can create!
Lory Lillian, – thank you for the chance to win your book!

  5. Sounds wonderful! Great review. I like the thought of all these different variations of the original in one book – a man more evil then Wickham, Lady Cassandra, Elizabeth min doubt of getting her love.
    Deffinitly a to-read!
