Hi dear friends!!
A few months ago I was in Iceland. 🇮🇸
And if you are a long-time reader of this blog, you know I love to celebrate an Icelandic tradition around Christmas… 🎁
Well, when in Iceland I asked some native Icelanders if they actually do celebrate this holiday – and I got mixed replies – some people said yes, and some people never heard of it! 😅
Either way, I am continuing to celebrate it and this will be my 5th year celebrating Jolabokaflod.
It has become one of my favorite holiday traditions!
I’ve loved sharing this tradition with my Austenesque friends near and far.
It is such a special and unique way to connect with each other during the holidays. 🫶🏼
So please, consider this your invitation to join in for this years’ celebration! ✉️
☑️ You can take part if you live internationally (must have Amazon distribution nearby). 🌍
☑️ You can take part if you only read ebooks! 📱
There are two groups in Austenesque Jolabokaflod:
GROUP 1 – readers that want to GIVE and RECEIVE paperbacks
GROUP 2 – readers that want to GIVE and RECEIVE ebooks* (only possible for US residents – trust me, we tried…)
~~~
~ What Austenesque Jolabokaflod Looks Like ~
📗 All are welcome to take part!
📕 Anyone who is taking part will send 1️⃣ Austenesque book and receive 1️⃣ Austenesque book for Austenesque Jolabokaflod.
📗 Gifted books will be paperbacks or ebooks (no audiobooks) and can be gifted from Amazon (since Book Depository is no longer an option, the only way we can still have worldwide participants is through nearby Amazon distribution centers)
📕 Participants will share their mailing address and a list of 5-10 Austenesque books that are on their wishlist (and that they don’t plan on purchasing or receiving as gifts in the next 2 months!)
📗 I’ll collect all the information from interested participants and then randomly sort and designate who is gifting to whom. (This will be Secret Santa style – meaning you won’t know in advance who is gifting your book!)
📕 Participants will purchase an Austenesque book (from their recipient’s wishlist) and send it to their assigned recipient before November 25th.
📗 Recipients will receive their Austenesque Jolabokaflod book in the mail or via email, but keep it unopened until December 24th.
📕 Recipients will open and enjoy their new book on December 24th in celebration of Austenesque Jolabokaflod! (To really embrace the holiday – read a few chapters of your new book and eat some chocolate!) 🍫
Want to take part in Austenesque Jolabokaflod?
Here’s what you need to know!
🎁 Participants will need to decide if they want to participate in the PAPERBACK or EBOOK Austenesque Jolabokaflod (i.e. if you pick paperback, you will send and receive a paperback, if you pick ebook, you will send and receive an ebook – open to US residents only)
🎁 Participants will need to pick 5-10 books that they would like to receive
🎁 Participants will send the book directly to the recipient in one of these methods:
- Amazon (depending on the country of the recipient you may need to use other Amazon sites such as amazon.es or amazon.ca
- Gift an Ebook through Amazon and date it to be sent on December 24th
Hi Meredith!
I was looking forward to a new edition of Jolabokaflod! Thanks for hosting again this beautiful and fun tradition!
It was a good idea to ask the icelanders how they celebrated Christmas´Eve and I imagine you were thrilled to stay in the place where Jolabokaflod comes from 😉
Count on me, my friend! As soon as possible I´ll fill out the form but, before, I´ll make a list of the “candidates” titles LOL. There are very good choices 😉
A big hug and I hope many readers join this new edition 😉
I can’t fill out the form because it is loading but never finishes
Maybe try again? It looks like the form is working for others…it might just be an isolated incident.
Done it! I have filled out the form 🙂
Let´s have fun with the JAFF-abokaflod tradition as Christina says!
Thank you for this opportunity. I am eager to contribute to this initiative. I was aware of this project last year, but unfortunately, I was unable to participate. I am delighted to have seen this post now!
I was actually in Iceland when I received this email! This is still celebrated there.
Hi Meredith – did the assignments go out already? I haven’t gotten an email about it and just reread the rules that books were supposed to be sent out November 25 so wanted to check. Thanks for putting this together! One of my favorite Christmas traditions now.
