Without Vanity or Pride – Amy D’Orazio and L.M. Romano

Saye Assists and Wickham Lingers

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars

Source: Gift from Publisher

TYPE OF NOVEL: two Pride and Prejudice variation short stories

NO IMPROPER PRIDE – Amy D’Orazio

  • Setting: Post Hunsford Proposal – London
  • The Premise: What if Mr. Darcy confided his heartache to Viscount Saye?  What will Saye do with that information – tease and taunt? Or meddle and maneuver?
  • My Thoughts: I love an interfering and impertinent Saye! Darcy is powerless against Saye’s confidence and coercion! And I was so happy to see it! I thought Saye’s reasoning for encouraging another encounter between Darcy and Elizabeth to be a very sound one – and I loved seeing how it played out. Darcy’s and Elizabeth’s frank yet cautious exchanges are so sweet to witness. I loved all the emotions we saw them both experience – Mr. Darcy’s mortification with his family, Elizabeth’s insecurities, and their mutual determination when faced with some unexpected and forceful opposition…

INSUFFICIENT VANITY – LM Romano

  • Setting: Post Pemberley Visit – Longbourn
  • The Premise: What if the Wickham’s extended their stay at Longbourn and thwarted Mr. Darcy’s plans to avoid them? Does Wickham’s unwanted presence give Elizabeth and Darcy a stronger inducement to reveal their hearts to each other, or does he cause more mischief and misunderstands?
  • My Thoughts: What a slime-ball! I loved despising Wickham in this story. And I’m so proud of Elizabeth for knowing his measure and being more and more assertive in her dismissals. But while it is terrible that Elizabeth is besieged by Wickham, it is wonderful to see Darcy observe her distress and feel both desire to alleviate her troubles and guilt that he caused them. Again, I enjoyed the variety of emotions Darcy and Elizabeth experienced during this time – and I especially enjoyed how they found ways to express their changed/unchanged feelings for each other. *swoon*

FINAL THOUGHTS:

🫶🏼  Delightful, engaging, and romantic – this is the perfect pairing for a busy reader in need of a quick Darcy and Elizabeth fix.

📖   These short stories are not short on substance or satisfaction!

💕  A clever and diverting duo that explores how Darcy and Elizabeth receive assistance and/or opposition from different people in their lives.

  1. This is high on my list and reading your reviews has made it an even more ‘must read’! I love Saye, his interference is always beneficial to Darcy! As for Wickham? There are no acceptable words to describe my feelings for him! I’m not sure even Lydia deserves to be married to him!

  2. I read this as soon as it came out. Ms. Romano’s story with the Wickhams staying and staying at Longbourn along with a slimy Wickham was quite enjoyable. As for Ms. D’Orazio’s story, who does not like an interfering Saye?

    1. I agree! Can you imagine such torture?! Ugh! the poor Bennets! Talk about your unwanted guests!

And, who indeed?! Saye would correctly argue that his interference is always invaluable!

  3. I read this book as soon as it was released. Any story with Saye is just so much fun! And the Wickham’s extended stay at Longbourn was also a great story.

  4. I planned to read this anyway, but now after your review I can’t wait. Really. Can I just split myself into 5 people? I just might have a teensy chance to read all I want to read. (She says while laughing insanely.)

Well, I love these two authors, so how can we lose?
