2023 Summary and Stats!!!

2023 was another great year for traveling, keeping busy, having  fun, and enjoying wonderful reads! 🤗

It was also a year of learning to find time for everything I love and want to do. ⏳

I’m excited to spend some time thinking about and analyzing all that took place here on Austenesque Reviews in 2023! 👀

Let’s take a look at this year’s numbers for 2023 on Austenesque Reviews and see how they compare with last year’s. 📊

~ Posts ~

  • Total # of Blog Posts for 2023 – 166 (7 less than last year.)

I’m surprised by this, it felt like 2023 was a much busier year for both my personal and work life. I’m relieved my blog didn’t suffer too much! 😅

I will also count this as a win. I actually thought I was well under my goal this year.  🙌🏼

  • Total # of Different Authors Read in 2023 – 56 (19 for the first time! Hello new authors!)

Very happy about 19 new authors read this year!  😮

  • There are  5️⃣ authors that I read the most from in 2023 (3 works each!)

Lyndsay Constable, Amy D’Orazio, Riana Everly, Heather Moll, and Mary Smythe

Staying steady in number. Excerpts definitely dominated. 8 fewer cover reveals this year.  👋🏼

~ Reading ~

Slightly less Non-Austenesque than I would have liked. But I love all 5️⃣ of all my frequent authors.

A 20% drop in variations from last year means I had more variety. Sequels increased – and coincidentally enough, 75% percent of my sequels were about secondary characters.

Wow! This is the most balanced I’ve ever been! I have covered all of Jane Austen’s major novels. That never happens. And I read my first Mansfield Park inspired book since 2018!

Looks like I was trying to stay current this year – 2022 & 2023 books dominated my reading.

I was extra stingy with my five stars this year, but gave out plenty of 4.5 stars.

My average rating went up by .01. 😜  My ratings for Variations, Sequels, and Alternate  POVs, and Anthologies all went up. Non-Austenesque and Austen-Inspired were a bit more critically rated.

  1. This is a fascinating breakdown! Thanks for sharing your 2023 stats and here’s to a successful Austenesque 2024!

  2. I’m always amazed at the sheer volume you’re able to read in a year, Meredith, let alone that you keep stats! I don’t know if I can cite any trends in my own reading; it’s all over the board, except that I’m always rereading the Jane Austen novel related to what I’m writing. So that meant Emma this past year, for Mr. Knightley in His Own Words. Blessings!

  3. My engineer’s heart loves all this data – I’m inspired to search out more Persuasion- and Emma-based reading in 2024 – thank you again, Meredith, for all you do for this community – a very happy and healthy 2024 is my wish for you!

  4. Yay for keeping steady with your posting and reading even if real life got hectic so it didn’t feel like you did as much on the blog. Interesting seeing your reading trends and so many new to you authors.

Maria Grace was my most frequently read author and Lucy Marin my most read new to me author. I hit my Austenesque reading goals this year, but hoped to do even better.

    Happy New Year, Meredith!

  5. With all your travels and your job I’m truly surprised youve had time for all this! Well done! I’m afraid I’m still mostly reading Darcy and Elizabeth stories unless something really tempts me. Wishing you a very happy New Year.

  6. Well done, Meredith. Thanks for sharing with us. I don’t keep stats on what genre, etc. I read and I read less this year than last year but most of mine were P&P variations. Happy New Year.

  7. Thanks for all your reviews and lists of books. They’re invaluable. Fyi— I think your ratings are very generous!

  8. I am always amazed at how many interviews you’ve done and the number of books you have read. 2023 was not kind to me and I had little time to write or read but I hope to do better in 2024. Thank you for all you do for JAFF.

  9. Congrats on your goals, Meredith!
I’m glad you know this year a good deal of new authors 🙂
And thanks for providing us such amount of interesting information 😉
    Happy 2024!

  10. Wow, what a fascinating breakdown! You’re obviously very, very busy with JAFF. Time well spent 🙂 Happy New Year!

  11. I’m in awe of your accomplishments this year. Thank you for everything you do for the JAFF community. I used to read mostly JAFF but have expanded to other genres. During December, I read lots of cozy Christmas romances. Best wishes for the New Year!

  12. Love your statistics, Meredith! I have read less in 2023 but found new authors from your blog. Thank you for that! I am not sure if 2024 will see an increase, but my TBR list is patiently waiting. Happy New Year!
