Cover Reveal + Giveaway for A Wound Deeper than Pride!!!

Greetings, friends! Are you a fan of novellas?

Quills and Quartos have published quite a few lately – with The Wallflower by Frances Reynolds, Mrs. Bennet Makes a Match by Lucy Marin.

And now there is one more to look forward to – A Wound Deeper than Pride by Ali Scott.

Today the lovely Ali Scott is stopping by to share the beautiful cover of her new Pride and Prejudice variation novella – A Wound Deeper than Pride.

We hope you enjoy! 🙌🏼

~ From the Author ~

Thank you, Meredith, for letting me share my newest novella, A Wound Deeper than Pride, with your lovely readers. The cover is so pretty – I adore the detail in the flowers!

In Austen’s Pride and Prejudice, Elizabeth tempts fate by visiting Pemberley, believing Darcy to be away from home. Fate, as we know, has other ideas when it comes to Darcy and Elizabeth! But what if, instead of Derbyshire, they meet again in London, both reeling from the disastrous Hunsford proposal, in circumstances that allow our beloved pair some time to start afresh? Once the idea formed in my mind, I wondered what might need to happen for Elizabeth to fully appreciate Darcy’s honourable character? And what chivalrous deeds might Darcy undertake to convince Elizabeth of his unwavering, ardent love? I had so much fun exploring these questions!

A Wound Deeper than Pride is my first novella – its shorter length really challenged me to concentrate on the characters’ inner journeys. I loved creating a story where the emotional walls between Elizabeth and Darcy are slowly dismantled, brick by brick, to a point where they can be vulnerable with each other. A Wound Deeper than Pride also gave me the opportunity to develop a character that does not always get much attention in the JAFF world. In the original book, Austen masterfully sketches Maria Lucas’s personality without using huge amounts of detail. I always adore reading Austenesque books that have a unique twist or an unexplored element, and it struck me that Maria Lucas was a deliciously blank canvas upon which to draw. As I pictured Maria, I couldn’t help feeling that she would definitely be in awe of Darcy. Then the notion of her being completely infatuated with him made me smile so much that I knew I had to write it.

Have you ever been in love? Maria Lucas’s innocent question is at the heart of this story. I hope your readers enjoy discovering how Elizabeth finds her answer.

~ Book Description ~

Elizabeth’s rejection of him had been excruciating, but that pain was nothing to the horrible realisation that she might be taken from him before his very eyes. In that terrible heartbeat, he had known what it was to truly lose her.

Still reeling from Mr Darcy’s unexpected proposal in Kent, Elizabeth Bennet dearly wishes that she could start their acquaintance anew. Returning to London, she is desperate for a distraction, and turns her attention to her poor, lovelorn sister. An impulsive decision leads to disaster and Elizabeth finds herself unexpectedly under Mr Darcy’s care. Can their time together be enough for her to learn the true depth of his character?

Fitzwilliam Darcy wholeheartedly regrets asking for Elizabeth Bennet’s hand in marriage. Unable to forget her, he withdraws from the world around him, certain that he will never see the lovely Miss Bennet again. In a twist of fate, they meet once more, but this time she is need of his assistance. Being around her at such close quarters is exquisite torment, but can he do enough to atone for his past rudeness?

A Wound Deeper Than Pride is a second chance romance variation of Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice.

And without further ado….here is the big reveal!!!

(expected release date: November 6th)

This is so beautifully eye-catching and inviting! 🤩

I love all the components combined in this cover – the lover’s silhouette, the stunning stencil of the house, the interesting color pallet. 🎨

Maria Lucas! I love the idea of her having a more significant role and infatuated with Mr. Darcy! ❣️

What happens to Elizabeth?! While I’m worried for her, I love the idea of Mr. Darcy taking care of her. 🥰

What do you think, friends? 🤔

  1. Novellas are harder to write than a novel as the writing must be tight. Love the idea of Mr. Darcy having to protect Elizabeth – what happened? It would not be hard to imagine Maria Lucas helping Darcy and Elizabeth getting together. The cover is beautiful and I agree with all that Meredith wrote. Thank you for the giveaway.

    1. Thank you for your comment! Q&Q have done such a brilliant job haven’t they! You are totally right – writing a novella really made me focus on what was important (ODC of course!) I hope you enjoy it and good luck with the giveaway.

  2. Beautiful cover! I love the light and dark colors (especially the blues), and how the couple stands alongside the words of the title. It’s all very striking. The story plot sounds intriguing…how will Elizabeth respond to being the one in need of care instead of her usual role as caregiver. Her character does not seem to lend itself well to being more passive in any relationship. Darcy, of course, is a natural caretaker. This role should give him the opportunity to shine. But it’s Darcy and Elizabeth…anything can happen!

    1. Thank you for your comment – it was such a fun story to write. Elizabeth’s irrepressible spirit just can’t stay quiet for long, whatever the circumstances! Good luck with the giveaway!

  3. I do like this cover! I like the silhouettes, the flowers and the house. I also like the blurb about this book. Poor Maria, doomed to disappointment, but what happened to Elizabeth? Why is she under Darcy’s care? I’m loving that idea by the way. I do hope she gets her second chance with him! I’m looking forward to finding out! 🙂

    1. It so pretty isn’t it! I adore the flowers. Poor Maria – if only she weren’t so tongue-tied around the extremely eligible Mr Darcy! Thank you for your comment and good luck with the giveaway.

  4. I love the premise and the cover is really lovely. I’m curious how a smitten Maria and Elizabeth in need of Darcy’s help (an accident maybe) are related to each other. I’m looking forward to read the book ☺️

  5. Very sweet cover. I like the flowers over the pretty background color.
(I don’t need to be included in the giveaway)

  6. Ooo sounds interesting, and I’ve never read anything by this author yet so I’m excited to see how it turns out!
Pretty cover details with the delicate flowers. Looking forward to release day!

    1. Thank you for your support! This is my first novella but I also have a novel (called ‘A Man of Good Fortune’) which sits alongside lots of other lovely authors over at the Quills and Quartos website. Good luck with the giveaway!

  7. The cover is absolutely lovely! I can’t wait to see how you’ve brought Maria Lucas to life. And what sort of disaster has befallen ODG????

    1. It’s such a pretty cover, isn’t it! I have to say that I had so much fun creating Maria’s character – she just had was so much untapped potential. Best of luck with the giveaway!

    1. Post-Hunsford is my favourite trope! The cover is reminiscent of Mistaken, in a nice way, very eye-catching. Congrats on your 2nd publication!

      1. Thank you for your kind words Zoe! Post-Hunsford is such a great place to start from – Darcy and Elizabeth are definitely still reeling from what they have learnt about each other. Good luck with the giveaway!

  8. This is a lovely cover and your new book description certainly has my attention! I look forward to reading this one!

    1. I look forward to you reading it! Thank you for your words of support and best of luck for the prize-draw!

  9. This sounds intriguing. I‘m looking forward reading this. I read an excerpt in a newsletter, how am I supposed to wait so long?
    And such a beautiful cover.

    1. I feel your pain – I can’t wait for it to be released! I hope you enjoy it and best of luck for the prize-draw.

  10. Intriguing premise. I do enjoy stories that bring ODC together unexpectedly after Hunsford’s proposal debacle. Anxious for its release!
    Thx

    1. Hopefully this will be right up your street. Thank you for your support and wishing you lots of luck for the giveaway!

  11. Hummm It is evidently post Hundsford so my curious mind wants to know if she read THE LETTER? And, of course, I’m very curious about what tragedy put Elizabeth in Darcy’ trajectory. Using Maria Lucas as a main character may be a piece of brilliance. It will be interesting to see what happens with her character. Congratulations on publishing another story.

    1. Thank you for your words of support. Writing Maria was so much fun – the poor girl has such a crush on Darcy! I hope you enjoy my story and good luck with the competition!

  12. I really like the colors, the blue of the cover and the pink of the flowers.
I look forward to enjoying reading it.

    1. It’s just such a pretty cover, isn’t it. I hope you enjoy my novella and best of luck with the giveaway!

    1. I know! I just love the detail in the flowers, and the colour palate is so pretty. Best of luck with the giveaway.

  13. I am intrigued with the idea that Maria Lucas actually is infatuated with Darcy. I could see her finding Col F. a man worthy of a crush, but that she finds Darcy swoon worthy makes her more nuanced as a character. I can imagine a number of different scenarios where Elizabeth needs help, but imagining the role Maria might be playing adds additional intrigue.

    1. I had an absolute blast writing Maria. The poor girl has such a massive crush on Darcy – if only she could talk in his presence! I hope you enjoy my story and good luck for the giveaway!

    1. Aww thank you for your enthusiasm! I am so excited for this book to be released. Best of luck for the competition.

  14. After reading the description, I would love to read the story.
I have not read any books by the author yet, but think, I should really enjoy to remedy that with this book.

    1. I’m glad to have whetted your appetite. I actually have one other book (called ‘A Man of Good Fortune’) which sits alongside lots of other fabulous authors on the Quills and Quartos website. Best of luck with the giveaway!

  15. So looking forward to reading this and the little twist with Maria Lucas in the midst, but also seeing what happens with Darcy’s regret and Elizabeth coming back to ask for his help? Hmmm…

    1. Thank you for your enthusiasm for my novella – I hope that you enjoy my twist as well! Good luck for the competition.

  16. Inspiring cover and premise – I wonder why Elizabeth is under Darcy’s care. Looking forward to reading this!

      1. Aww thank you for your supportive comments! I can’t wait for you to read it either. Good luck for the giveaway!

    1. It is a great trope! All of Darcy and Elizabeth’s cards are on the table, so to speak, and I had so much fun working out where they will go next. Good luck with the competition!

  21. What an interesting concept! I don’t think I have ever read of Maria Lucas. This should prove interesting. I really hope I get lucky!

    1. It was so much fun creating Maria! Jane Austen gives us a hint of her character, but she was a wonderfully blank canvas to work with. I hope you enjoy the path I took with her. Good luck with the competition!

  22. Congrats on the new release! Lovely cover. I so love stories where Darcy needs to be Lizzy’s caretaker and we see his generous and kinder nature. Can’t wait to read it.

  23. Love the cover & I really enjoy books that are this length as I can then pick them up when I only have a limited amount of time & able to complete it.

    1. I know exactly what you mean! I’m constantly reading a chapter or two on my phone when my kids aren’t looking! I hope you enjoy my story and good luck with the giveaway!

  24. Such a beautiful cover. I look forward to reading this novella. I love second change romance stories and Darcy and Elizabeth have a great one. This novella sounds so interesting and to also have Maria Lucas as a secondary character, who we don’t see often in JAFF. Congratulations on your new release. –Leslie

    1. Aww… I’m excited for you to read it too! Thank you for your positivity and best of luck in the prize draw.

  25. A lovely cover! I read a excerpt of this story and it really made me want to read it all! Congratulations on your book from Norway!

    1. Oh wow, Norway – I’ve always wanted to visit there! I am glad the excerpt has piqued your interest! I hope you enjoy it and good luck with the competition.

  26. Looking forward to it. You’re right…Maria Lucas is a blank canvas, and and I haven’t seen many authors do much with her.

  27. Nice cover and a fascinating excerpt! Can’t wait to read it and hope to see it even sooner than Nov. 6.

  28. I do like that cover, makes me wonder what going on between ODC. Not many variations do anything of interest with Maria Lucas; I look forward to reading this one.
