Cover Reveal + Giveaway for A Case of Some Urgency!!!

Hi friends! Let me tell you something…authors be keeping busy! ✍🏼

Just four months ago Mary Smythe was here sharing the fabulous cover of Prevailed Upon to Marry – a book I really loved! 📖

And guess what, she is here today with another cover reveal for another new book – A Case of Some Urgency! 🙌🏼

This one features a favored P&P trope for many of us, but it sounds like it may have a twist… 🤭

Thank you so much for your visit, Mary. I can’t wait to hear more about A Case of Some Urgency. ✨

~ From the Author ~

Hi Meredith! Thank you for having me again, it’s always a great honor to be here. I think it’s the fifth time? Wow!

The idea for A Case of Some Urgency hit me like a thunderbolt. I was lying back in bed, trying to fall asleep, when I was struck by the sudden question: What would happen if Mr Bennet discovered Darcy’s letter to Elizabeth? Naturally, I jolted out of bed and scribbled the idea down so I wouldn’t forget it, and here we are today.

Okay, so there was a bit more work involved between then and now, but it was worth it. The story opens with a despondent Elizabeth on her way home from Derbyshire in the wake of Lydia’s elopement. “There’s no way Mr Darcy will ever want to reconcile with me now,” she thinks, even if we, as avid JAFF fans, know better. Still, Elizabeth doesn’t have the benefit of dramatic irony (or scores of novels dedicated to her romance with Mr Darcy) to assuage her, so she’s pretty upset. Upset enough to accidentally lose track of Mr Darcy’s letter from Hunsford…oops.

A few days later in London, who should stumble across The Letter but Mr Bennet? Oh dear, the plot thickens now! Unable to find Lydia, Mr Bennet decides he has no choice but to demand satisfaction from Mr Darcy in the form of marriage to Elizabeth. Darcy, naturally, believes that Elizabeth will want nothing to do with him, and Elizabeth frets the same about him, but surely it will all work out…right?

Yes, of course, but you’ll have to read the book to find out exactly how. 😉

I absolutely love the cover for this one—doesn’t just speak of unrequited longing? A man and a woman who can see, touch, and speak, but are still separated by an impenetrable barrier? Very much like Darcy and Elizabeth, when you think about it. The lovely Susan Adriani, as ever, is a master at cover art.

~ Book Description ~

With shaking fingers, Bennet unfolded the missive and scanned to the bottom of the second page for a signature: Fitzwilliam Darcy.

When Lydia Bennet elopes with George Wickham it seems certain that the fledging second chance at love between Elizabeth Bennet and Fitzwilliam Darcy has been destroyed. Dashing home from her visit to Pemberley, Elizabeth Bennet re-reads Darcy’s letter and regrets what surely can never be.

Desperate times often call for desperate measures, as Mr Bennet is soon to discover under the most painful of circumstances. His search for Lydia and Wickham is proving unfruitful and still worse—he has discovered signs of a secret romance between his most sensible second daughter and none other than Mr Darcy.

Seeing an opportunity to both avoid ruination and perhaps have some redemption of the family name, Mr Bennet is quick to visit Mr Darcy with a proposed solution. But every solution provides a new set of challenges for Darcy and Elizabeth in this tale of romance lost and found.

And without further ado….here is the big reveal!!!

(expected release date: October 23rd)

Oooooo, I think this cover is as richly designed as this premise! 🙌🏼

I love the moody tones of this cover and the postures of the man and woman – hers looks longing with maybe a little bit of dejection, and his is entreatingly hopeful. 💗

The gate is so beautiful – and I love the symbolism of it representing the barrier Mary talked about. 🚪

I am a big fan of the forced-marriage trope, and I love the idea of a couple being forced to marry when in actuality maybe they are both already in love! 💍

What do you think, friends? 🤔

  1. I’ve become a big fan of Mary Smythe. I think she does that Austenesque/Regency language so well and that’s something I really look for. I’ve just started “Prevailed Upon to Marry” so this will go in my TBR list for sure! Thanks for a good review, Meredith!

  2. Oh my what a plot and I love the cover!!! I can hardly wait to find out how ODC figure this one out. I only hope that Lydia and Wickham are not given to much plot time and that for once nobody would rescue them. Lydia should deserve to pay for her stupidity and blatant disregard for others.

  3. I love Mary’s books and this definitely looks like another must have! This sounds like it could be a forced marriage, with both being in love but both thinking the other couldn’t be. Oh what a tangled web! This cover is absolutely lovely, Elizabeth looking so wistful and Darcy looking like he just wants to tear the gate down and touch her! This will be going on my list!

  4. Love the cover, and all Mary’s other books, so I look forward to reading her latest offering. Thank you for the opportunity to win a copy of the book.

  5. It sounds lovely! I went to pre-order it, only to find that I already did back in August! Looking forward to reading it!

  6. Loving the richness of the colors. It is a beautiful cover.

Mr. Bennet finally gets proactive about something. Let’s hope it doesn’t come with a price for ODC.

Congratulations on another release. Very happy for you… And us!

  7. OMG!! Love the cover! Love the colours – lovely & soft (if you know what I mean). I love the premise; I have read where Lady C and Mr. C discover the letter but never Mr. B. It should be an interesting journey for ODC. Looking forward to adding this to my reading! Thanks Meredith and Congratulations Mary!

  8. The cover is really lovely ❤️. The man and the woman are together and yet nevertheless separated. I think that goes very well with the plot. I like the idea of the story and I’m looking forward to read it. I’m sure that it is like all stories of Mary Smythe very well written and it it definitely a must-read for me ❤️

  9. CONGRATS on the new book! I love what you have shared of the story & makes me wonder IF Mr B read the entire letter or not. With the cover you can see many thoughts running through each of their faces and wonder where in the story (or several places in the story maybe) it takes place. Will be adding it to my read & wish lists.

  10. Always love & new P&P premise! And Mr Bennet stirring up complications is intriguing. Lovely cover- nicely done. Look forward to book release.

  11. That is a beautiful cover and yes, the plot sounds quite intriguing. Could it be that Mr. Bennet is less of a “hands off and neglectful” kind of father?

  12. I received an ARC of this story and loved it. That cover is simply beautiful. Well done. Congratulations to Mary on the launch of her new book. Thanks to Q&Q for the generous giveaway. Good luck to all in the drawing. Blessings.

  13. Oh oh oh..

I just love the cover – but oh my, I am all aflutter ! I want to read it now!

My favourite starting point – after Hunsford!

I am sure this will be another winner, Mary!

  14. I love Mary Smythe’s books and I’m looking forward to reading this one too. Congratulations on the release. Beautiful cover

  15. Oh my! What an intriguing plot. The cover is beautiful and I feel it has some hidden meanings. There is always something standing in the way of their love. The art work and coloring are very eye catching. Great job!

  16. The cover is amazing…dark and moody, just as we prefer Mr Darcy to be. Good excerpt. It has piqued my imagination. I can barely wait to discover just what Mr Bennet decides to do with the letter and information. Hmmmm…

  17. Thanks for a chance to win a copy of this story and good luck with the release. I will put this on my Wishlist so if I don’t win I remember to look for it.

  18. What a unique cover lovely this sounds like a intriguing story line definitely on my wish list to preorder. Thanks for the chance to win a copy too.
Good luck the release although I doubt you will need it.

  19. Yes, I too love a forced marriage premise and this one sounds perfect. I’m so glad you had the idea of Mr. Bennett discovering Mr. Darcy’s letter to Elizabeth. The cover art is beautiful. Congratulations on your latest novel. I look forward to reading. –Leslie

  20. Mary, I have been looking forward to reading this book for a long time! I’m so happy you love your cover – it was a pleasure to design. Wishing you a wonderful, successful, happy release! 🙂

  21. The plot concept is enticing; offhand I can’t think of another quite like it. Mr. Bennet forcing the issue between his favorite daughter and a rich, respectable, but unlikeable Darcy?? The book cover speaks louder than words. Well Done! Congratulations on publishing another story!

  22. This is a beautiful and lovely cover, Mary. Susan Adriani is talented in designing covers from paintings. Even though I’ve seen this painting before on Regency romance novels, it really suits the mood. I can’t wait for the release.

  23. Ooh, another book from you Mary, I am so excited. The cover is beautiful, love the colors and the idea of the gate between them. Plus is that a sunflower I spy, my favorite flower.
    I can’t wait!

  24. Your story has a very interesting premise Mary. I’m intrigued by the idea of Mr Bennet finding Mr Darcy’s letter to Elizabeth. Anything could happen. Lovely cover too. Best wishes for your new release. Count me in for the giveaway!

  25. I personally have discovered only somewhat recently and read enough of her work to realize I’ll continue to read any P&P variation she shares with us.
Thank you for the pleasure, Mary.

  26. I agree with Meredith that I do liked forced marriage themes. I am surprised that Mr. Bennet would have the fortitude to exert himself to confront Darcy into a forced marriage. The cover is stunning. Thank you for the giveaway.

  27. Beautiful cover! I am looking forward to reading this. Thank you for the giveaway. Congrats and best wishes on the new release!

  28. Just finished the arc yesterday, and this cover perfectly reflects ODC’s conversation at the gate! Love it!
