Cover Reveal + Giveaway for Never Inconstant!!!

Hi friends!!! We’ve got one for Persuasion! Let me say it again. We’ve. Got. One. For. Persuasion!! 🙌🏼 Could I BE any more excited?!? 🙌🏼

For those who have no clue what I am so excited about, today, a new-to-us author – Lyndsay Constable – is stopping by to share the cover reveal of her debut release with Quills and Quartos called Never Inconstant! And guess what friends…it is a Persuasion SEQUEL about Anne and Wentworth!! ⚓️

Welcome, welcome Lyndsay! I am so thrilled to have you here! 😊

~ From the Author ~

Thank you so much to Meredith and Austenesque Reviews for hosting the cover reveal for Never Inconstant – a Persuasion sequel. It is such an honor!

I love the glorious grey in Persuasion. Austen’s other works are more black and white in terms of how the courtship unfolds. We witness the beginning, middle and end of the courtship in P&P, S&S and NA. In Emma and MP, we see the final moments of the courtship after many years of slow evolution. Persuasion is like Love, Interrupted. Austen parachutes us into the end of this almost decade long courtship. So many questions remain. It leaves so much to the imagination as to how Anne and Wentworth fell so deeply in love, how they both suffered over years, how they separately fumbled towards rediscovery of each other. Austen just drops us right in the middle of that grey mystery at the beginning of the novel, it is so brilliant and intriguing. I hope that readers enjoy my attempt to explore those silent years in Never Inconstant.

With Wentworth especially, there were so many blank spots about the time after Anne broke off the first engagement. Being the captain of a ship was so lonely, stressful and demanding. I always felt sorry for him going straight from having his heart completely broken to one of the most demanding jobs imaginable for years on end. But, as Anne so poignantly pointed out in her conversation with Captain Harville at the end of Persuasion, men had the luxury of activity to take their mind off of heartbreak. Anne did not. For me, that is one of the most interesting, telling conversations in all of Austen. Anne was smothered by inactivity and Wentworth was surrounded by duty and adventure.

In Never Inconstant, I tried to flesh out the very few clues about Wentworth that Austen gave us. To me, Wentworth is highly intelligent, funny and a bit brash. I imagined how a man, standing on the deck of a ship with all the chaos, uncertainty and difficulty of fighting a war, would reflect on his lost love in private moments. Because, as we all know, Wentworth was Never Inconstant.

Thank you so much for having me as a guest for the cover reveal. Thank you to Quills & Quartos publishing for helping me polish what I know was a difficult book to edit! All the separate timelines, historical references and letters were challenging. So many letters! I hope Never Inconstant causes readers to fall in love all over again with Anne and Wentworth.

~ Book Description ~

Unjust I may have been, weak and resentful I have been, but never inconstant.

MISS ANNE ELLIOT COULD NOT HAVE FORESEEN the happiness she would find as the wife of Captain Frederick Wentworth but neither could she have envisioned the life he led when they were separated for eight heartbreaking years. Now years into her married life, Anne Wentworth finds a cache of letters written, but never sent, to her by the then-heartbroken Navy captain.

AMID PERIL ON THE SEA, Captain Wentworth faced heart-wrenching loneliness throughout their years apart. Anne reads the letters to gain a deeper appreciation of the constant and ardent love her husband possessed and still possesses for her, and learns far more about the true character of her old, persuasive friend Lady Russell.

This sequel to Jane Austen’s Persuasion journeys into the years after Frederick Wentworth made his second and final proposal to his beloved Anne Elliott.

And without further ado….here is the big reveal!!!

(expected release date: September 12th)

Just gorgeous! I love romantic pose and happy smile on her face. She is a women in love. 😍

I love the title, the focus on what happened during their time apart, the theme of constancy! 💗

Letters! Yes, I cannot wait to see these letters and learn all they reveal! 💌

I wonder what adventures Anne and Wentworth are on together, and what’s that about Lady Russell? ⚓️

What do you think, friends? 🤔

loved Jane Austen since her teens and often ponders ‘what would Jane do?’ If she is ever stuck for an idea, you can find her in the fields picking kale or digging up sweet potatoes or watering the greenhouse–or a myriad of other activities that keep the farm running and help her organize her muddled thoughts. 1. We all know Wentworth can write a heck of a letter! I *just* responded to a post on Facebook about using his letter to get a friend to fall in love with Austen. 🙂 Congrats on your book, Lyndsay! I look forward to reading it.

    1. Thank you! That letter would be such a great way to introduce folks to Austen. I love how sudden and explosive it is, right at the end of the novel, brilliant and beautiful.

  2. I. Can. Not. Wait. To read this book. Oh PULEEEEZE may I be one of the lucky winners. (blush) Good luck to everyone in this generous giveaway. I am soooo intrigued.

And thank you, thank you, Thank You for your existence Quills and Quartos and the wonderful support you’ve give to our beloved JAFF authors.

  5. I’ve just read an excerpt on Quills and Quartos where Anne finds the letters and reads the first one! I now wish to read the rest, especially to learn how Lady Russell interfered! I love this romantic cover.

  6. Congratulations on your first release! I was privileged to read the ARC and loved the writing.
The cover is lovely, sets such a setting for Anne to read and feel into Wenworth’s history.

    1. Thank you so much! I am glad you enjoyed it, Wentworth and Anne are such deep waters, it was a joy to write.

    1. I agree! It is such an amazing novel and there was plenty of inspiration within it. Hopefully there will be some more Persuasion JAFF in the future!

  7. This sounds wonderful. I cannot wait to read it. I love seeing Anne’s expression as she is reading the letters.

    1. It is a lovely painting and really captures the intimacy of reading a letter. Glad you are interested in reading it! Thanks

  8. I am SO excited to read this book! I love Persuasion, and there is way too few sequels written. Especially, how Wentworth felt during that time. I can’t wait to read it!

    1. Wentworth is such a mystery during those eight years. I have read so much fiction and non fiction about Regency era naval warfare, i really tried to give insight into his possible battles in real ife and in his heart.

  9. Lyndsay, I am so excited that you wrote a sequel to ‘Persuasion’! The constancy of Captain Wentworth and Anne is so absolute and profoundly felt. While Pride and Prejudice will always be my favorite of her novels, Persuasion is a very close second. I’m looking forward to reading ‘Never Inconstant’ very much. Congratulations on what promises to be a lovely treat for all of us!

    1. Thank you for the support! I love how layered , but steady their feelings are. It is probably tied w P and P as my favorite! Thank you

  10. Lovely cover. Seems to fit the story. Persuasion is my second favorite of JA’s novels, right behind P&P (of course). Looking forward to reading the thoughts that you imagine Capt Wentworth had during those long eight years. Congrats on publishing your first novel.

    1. Thank you! I think he definitely went through a wide range of emotion, made even worse by not knowing if Anne had moved on.

  11. I am so looking forward to reading your book. Persuasion is my favorite Austen book, so ‘the rest of the story’ will be a joy to read.

  12. A chance for more of Captain Wentworth’s letters is simply impossible to resist! The beautiful cover and the excerpt on Q&Q are an inspired beginning. Congratulations and much success on the release!

  13. I am excited to read this Persuasion variation. Anne and Captain Wentworth are so intriguing. The cover is lovely.

  14. I am SO excited for this one! Persuasion is my favorite Jane Austen work, and we need more (much more!) Persuasion-related JAFF – YEAH!!!!

      1. The Amazon fairy brought my hardcopy earlier this evening and I am already in love with your book – and the cover is even more beautiful in person – well done you!

  15. Ooh, you must have been thrilled when you came across that image to use for your cover, depicting the perfect scene.

    1. I love the cover, it was suggested by Quills and Quartos and I loved it! It really speaks to the intimate nature of hand written letters.

    1. Thank you, the cover was suggested by Q and Q and I really like it too, it suits the intimacy of handwritten letters.

  16. Congratulations on the release. Cannot wait to read it! And the cover is so lovely!
    Good for you!

    1. There is definitely some angst, though some humor as well. I imagine Frederick as having a good sense of humor and helps to bring that quality out in Anne.

  17. Wow, yes, I’d love to know what exactly was on Wentworth’s mind during their separation. Anne
“learns far more about the true character of her old, persuasive friend Lady Russell”
Hmm, I can only imagine what he had to say about that. I’ve wondered whether Lady Russell ever had a chance for a private conversation with Wentworth attempting to convince him (or threaten him) against marriage to her friend.
    Looking forward to reading this!

    1. I have always been intrigued by the idea of Wentworth being so isolated as a ships captain during those years and how he must have found a way to come to peace with the possibility of Anne marrying. It has been interesting to explore!

  18. This comes at a great time! I’ve just started rereading Persuasion and recently finished reading some books based on it. Please enter me for the giveaway.

  19. Persuasion is my second favorite Jane Austen novel followed by Pride and Prejudice, so I love to see more Persuasion variations. This story sounds so interesting and the cover art is just beautiful. I look forward to reading this novel. –Leslie

    1. I agree that a few more Persuasion variations would be wonderful. Hope you enjoy Never Inconstant!

  20. Quite an autumnal cover! I really love how the browns and reds along with the lady reading the letter. I know that Persuasion is usually considered a fall book with the talk of the loss of bloom, retrenchment, and the other day things of life and yet there is the beauty like that of those falling leaves. Thank you so much for the reveal.

    1. ‘a fall book’, Wow, I love that! It does have commonalities with the season. Thanks for pointing that out and how well the cover blends with that theme.

  21. I finished Never Inconstant the other night (read it in two sittings) and give it 5 STARS!!! I can’t say enough about this wonderful book – it is intelligently written without being dry (all of Lyndsay Constable’s knowledge of Regency Era Royal Navy history helps to weave some amazing stories and plot twists), gave me quite a few chuckles (and a few LOLs) and is a most beautiful love story – truly, a perfect read! Thank you so much, Lyndsay – this one is on my “keep forever” shelf with my other JAFF treasures!

    1. Wow! Thank you so much for the kind words! I am glad there were some funny moments for you, I think Wentworth had a real sense of humour and helped to bring that out in Anne. Anne probably did not get to laugh much in that house after her mother passed away. I am so happy you enjoyed it.

  22. This is an amazing and wonderful concept for a novel. My favorite Austen novel is “Persuasion”. There are too few variations, sequels etc for that novel. However that said, “persuasion” is pretty perfect and perhaps hard to follow up. the wentworth letter is so romantic. The best letter written. I’m sure your sequel with letters will be exceptional. The cover is lovely. Thank you for taking up where my favorite novel left off. I look forward to reading it.

    1. I hope you enjoy it! There are many more Wentworth letters, though none so brilliant as the last one in Persuasion. Maybe there will be a few more Persuasion variations in the future!

  23. I’m delighted that there is another Persuasion-inspired novels that I can look forward to because there aren’t many published stories about my favourite Jane Austen novel compared to P&P (also another favourite of mine). I’m eager to know how Wentworth attempts to get over his broken engagement with Anne and how he pours his heart out writing those letters. I expect them to be romantic, heartfelt, nostalgic and sad.

Btw, the cover is beautiful. As always, the cover designer for Q&Q does a terrific job at illustrating the cover.
