Guest Post + Giveaway with Author Bronwen Chisholm!!!

Hi friends! I am so happy to welcome back the lovely Bronwen Chisholm to Austenesque Reviews today. I’ve  loved the three books I’ve read by Bronwen – Georgiana Darcy, Matchmaker, A Beneficial if Unwilling Compromise, and Missing Jane. And as you may have already seen, Bronwen has a new book that just released 5 days ago! And the exciting thing is – it isn’t just a new release – it’s a new series!

Bronwen is currently celebrating her new release, As a Proper Lady Would,  with a blog tour and today she is stopping by AR to share about the characters readers will see in this series! We hope you enjoy! 🙌🏼

Hi everyone! I am so excited to be back visiting you here at Austenesque Reviews. The first novel in my Defying Propriety Series, As a Proper Lady Would, came out on October 1st on Kindle and in paperback. Here is the cover along with the blurbs for both the series and this first book.

 ~ Series Description ~

We are formed by experiences of our childhood. Family and friends influence our character. Decisions, wise and foolish, direct our path. Through chance encounters and early introductions, our beloved Pride and Prejudice characters come together on a slightly different path which may, to some, defy propriety.

All the books in this series are sweet, clean romances.

~ Book Description ~

In this first book of the Defying Propriety Series, we watch as Elizabeth and Darcy learn what society expects of them, while attempting to achieve what they truly desire in life. The well-known characters, as well as a few new ones, grow from childhood to a marriageable age; some reveal different facets of their personalities, while others are doomed to follow the same paths.

This was a really fun book to write. Not only did I get to explore what some of our favorite characters were like as children, I also got to create new ones. Allow me to introduce a few.

Jane Austen told us about Darcy’s cousin, the younger son of an earl, but she never talked about his sibling(s). Obviously, there had to be an older brother, the heir to the title. In this series, his name is Ashton Fitzwilliam, Viscount Grayson. We get to see him as an additional support for Darcy in his youth, teaming up with his brother to help combat their cousin’s social awkwardness. He was the reason this book became a series; he demanded his own story as I was attempting to wrap this one up.

Then, there is Charlotte Lucas’s brother John, younger than her but older than Elizabeth. He gives their young friend a glimpse at the differences between what society expects for girls and boys in the Regency era. From raising her expectations regarding school to pointing out what is and is not discussed in a ballroom, John is the older brother Elizabeth never had in Pride and Prejudice, even though he may want to be more.

Oh, and I can’t forget the Evans sisters. Poor relations or something more scandalous? Well, we see them only a bit in this story, but they have already resurfaced in Son of an Earl, and I suspect they will be requesting stories as well before the series is finished.

Of course, not all the new characters are lovable creatures. Wickham needed someone to lead him astray and what better rake than a spoiled younger son of a peer? Avery, youngest son of Lord Avery, was eager to fill the role.

Several others flit in and out of the story, returning as the years pass, and will probably play larger parts as more books are added to the series. Lady Demetria (or Demi as her brothers call her), Lt. Anthony Fitzwilliam, Miss Haverton and the Partingtons, and the Misses Trenton, Mrs. Long’s nieces. They should all keep me on my toes for at least four or five books.

Four or five books?! I can’t wait! I love this wonderful introduction to all the new characters we can expect to encounter in this series! You’ve dropped some tantalizing crumbs about each of them and I’m intrigued to see learn more about them! 🤗

Thank you so much for sharing, Bronwen! Best of luck in your release of As a Proper Lady Would!

  1. The first book sounds interesting but will it be a cliffhanger or can this and future books be read as standalone stories?

  2. Yeah! I enjoyed reading your other stories. Cannot wait till this comes out. This sounds so interesting and it’s a series. I love to know what happens after.

  3. Congratulations on a series that will keep us readers waiting for the next novel in it! It sounds like we will be on an adventure of reading!!! Can’t wait to begin the adventure!

  4. What wonderful names your new characters have! I am sure they are screaming in your head for more books about them. Congratulations on your new book and thank you for the giveaway.

  5. Thanks for sharing about this series. It will be interesting to see how the characters develop across the series! Thanks for the opportunity to win a copy!

  7. The new characters Bronwen has created sound interesting. Looking forward to reading this book and the whole series!

  8. This new series sounds intriguing, I always enjoy the carry overs of side characters from one book to another so they can have their moment to shine.

  9. I have been seeing this book around the interwebs so thank you for sharing about the characters. I’m looking forward to reading it!

    1. I believe there is a nice mix of Jane Austen’s and my own. The first book is Elizabeth and Darcy, of course. The second follows characters I created, but the third and possibly fourth returns to Jane Austen’s. Several of my characters are sprinkled in each.

  10. Judging by your list of characters above I can see that you may struggle to keep it to 4 or 5 books! 🙂
Whatever, I do look forward to starting with this one.

  11. What a great way to start a series–with a look of our favorite (and some new) characters as children. I am looking forward to reading this book, but am wondering if each of these novels will be stand alone? Must they be read in order and will the previous book in the series contain a cliff-hanger to be answered only by reading the following book? Inquiring minds want to know!

    1. Okay, a bit of reassurance. No real cliff hangers. Each book will focus on a different couple or individual, so it can stand alone. It will probably make the most sense to read them in order, especially to read the first one first, but it might not be required.

  12. I am always intrigued by different takes on the story — it’s what I love about JAFF. Looking forward to another great read!

  13. I’m late late late. But, I just wanted to say I am excited about Bronwen’s new series, I love the premise of starting when they are all much younger than canon, and I’ve loved the books of hers I’ve read. Congratulations, Bronwen! Wishing her the best with this new book and the beginning of a series. Hurray!

  14. Sorry for coming in late to the party. Congratulations on the release of the first book in a new series, Bronwen! I’m curious to know more of the new characters that you introduce, particularly the viscount and Charlotte’s brother.
