Hello Meredith and thank you so much for welcoming me back to Austenesque Reviews. I love the community you’ve built through your blog, so that makes me especially grateful to share Nine Ladies with everyone here and show all of you its gorgeous cover! Who is in the mood for a time travel romance?

How many of you are thinking, “Heather…Heather! Time travel? Really?”

Yes, really. Stick with me regency fans, modern fans, and readers who think they would never read anything approaching fantasy or science fiction. Regency Darcy, modern Elizabeth, and a love story with a believable time travel element? For sure! I had this story in the back of my mind for a long time, even while I was working on my previous books, and it took me a while to believe that I could do it justice.

The challenge is how—and when—can two people born nearly 200 years apart find happiness together?

In Pride and Prejudice, Elizabeth takes progressive action regarding marriage—she refuses two socially acceptable offers when marriage is her only chance at security—so her character is a natural fit to modern values of femininity and independence. In Nine Ladies, Elizabeth is going to struggle to be herself in Georgian England, pretending to be a woman born in 1787 until she can return to 2011. Thankfully, she’ll have a the help of a man who turns out to be pretty decent after all underneath his pride issues.

Elizabeth’s unconventionality and intelligence are an attraction to canon Darcy, and that’s going to carry over into Nine Ladies. There’s a social awareness to his character arc—like how canon Darcy values his new wife’s aunt and uncle who are in trade. He’s capable of growth and change, and ends up earning the respect and love of a woman who isn’t impressed by what he has. Those qualities make it sound like canon Darcy is a forward-thinking man. He just might be progressive enough to be attracted to that outspoken woman from the future.

The cover was designed by Evelyne Laballe at Carpe Librum Cover Designs and it’s so vibrant. I love the luminous colors and use of light that gets across the fantasy element without appearing too magical. Most of the book takes place in the Derbyshire peaks, a rural landscape with gorgeous scenery. There are several stone circles in Derbyshire, and one of them is the real Nine Ladies. And the cover also captures how Elizabeth drops into Darcy’s world, and how he’s not having any of it! (At least not at first.)

I think Regency-era Darcy could be attracted to a modern Elizabeth, and Darcy’s good qualities are enduring—and endearing—to Elizabeth no matter what century she’s born in. Read in Nine Ladies how Darcy and Elizabeth overcome 200 years of differences to find their happy ever after.

~ Book Description ~

How can Darcy and Elizabeth overcome 200 years of differences in this era-spanning love story?

The Darcy family has grudgingly kept the secret about the power contained within a nearby stone circle called Nine Ladies. Fitzwilliam Darcy is forced to contend with this secret when a young woman from the future appears at Pemberley. Until the opinionated stranger can return to when she belongs, Darcy is responsible not only for her safety, but also for ensuring that nothing she does threatens Pemberley’s well-being.

Elizabeth Bennet has returned to England to take care of her estranged father, and her life was off track long before she walked into that stone circle at sunset. She quickly discovers that, as a poor and single woman, she’ll have to rely on the arrogant Mr. Darcy. She tries her best to survive in the nineteenth-century until she can return home but, as she and Darcy grow closer, the truth she knows about his and Pemberley’s bleak future becomes harder to keep.

Will their love prove timeless as centuries and cultures collide in this time travel Pride and Prejudice variation?

And without further ado….here is the big reveal!!!

(expected release date: January 25th, 2021)

And the full wrap…

Ahhh! This looks like such a fun romantic adventure! I love the light and leaves and lovely scenery! 🍃

I’m excited to learn about the real Nine Ladies and how they may have something to do with the time travel phenomena. 🕰

I soooo love the idea of a modern-day Elizabeth traveling to the Regency Era…I want to live vicariously through her! 🤩

Oh! The drama in this story sounds so intriguing!! I wonder what Elizabeth knows about the Darcys and Pemberley! 😲

What do you think, friends? 🤔
