Austenesque Agenda – May 2018

AA

Hi friends! Do you know what happened to April?!? I swear, it was just getting started…did we only do half of April this year??? Oh boy, I hope May doesn’t do the same and go by in a blur! I love May because it is the start of warmer beach weather and I usually start going to the beach around this time. (Although now with Mr. Bingley’s truck we have been going to the beach whenever…even in January and February.)

Have I told you he named his truck Ernie?  Can you guess why? 😉

At first all I thought we did in April was catch-up on work after our England and Ireland trip and prepare for my studio’s student recitals (which were this past Saturday!)

But I looked through my photos and was reminded we did do some other things! Like take two fun trips while Mr. Bingley played some gigs.

We went to Charlotte, North Carolina and Kiawah Island, South Carolina and enjoyed some gorgeous weather and beautiful sites in both places! On our way to Charlotte we stopped by Morrow Mountain State Park and hiked a 4 mile trail. 🙂

I love being the wife of a musician! 🙂

Want to know what Austenesque fun I’m getting into this month?

…here is what’s on this month’s

Austenesque Agenda:

~ TO REVIEW ~

~ TO READ AND REVIEW ~

~ YOU CHOOSE ~

My TBR has been neglected and I am definitely needing to tackle it more this year!  Hopefully that will be possible this summer! I have separated my TBR pile into categories: non-Jane Austen, Jane Austen set during Regency times, Jane Austen set during contemporary times, and Jane Austen miscellany (mostly nonfiction works).  One of the biggest piles is Jane Austen set during Regency times, so I’m opting to pick a book from that category this month.  Which one should it be: Expectations by Samantha Jayne Adkins, Presumption by Julia Barrett, Letters from Pemberley by Jane Dawkins, or Connivance by Helen Baker? (to vote leave a comment below!)

  1. I loved “Letters from Pemberley” and also “Presumption.” Both read so long ago. I do not remember the details about “Presumption” but remember I liked it well. But “Letters from Pemberley”—it’s a quick collection of letters that I liked so much I even bought “More Letters from Pemberley.” Enjoy!

And your adventure photos are gorgeous! Keep ’em coming!

    1. I think I did read both before too, but didn’t own them and didn’t review them so a reread is definitely in order for both! 🙂

Thanks so much! I know we have a few more adventures planned this month and I’m really excited!

  2. Busy busy busy! Good luck with your targets. I look forward to your guests this month and your reviews. I’ve read the books by Jennifer and Lory which I really enjoyed. I’m definitely planning on reading the three Dragon books. I have the first and now plan to get the other two and read them all together.
‘re your TBR book I will vote for Letters from Pemberley.

    1. Thank you, Glynis! It is hard to make a dent in the TBR pile when so many amazing books keep coming out! 🙂 #notcomplaining Great choices on what you want to read, I’ve heard some great things about the Dragon books!

      Thank you for voting! E – 0 / P – 0 / LfP – 1 / C – 0

  3. Hi Meredith!
Awesome pics you have put in your blog!. What a good idea had Mr Bingley buying “Ernie”!LOL.
I’ve just returned from a holiday break in south of Spain, I’ve enjoyed a lot walking by the beach although it was windy and cold.
I like very much your May agenda for two reasons : you speak about “Presumption ” by Julia Barret, it was my first sequel of austenesque books and it was beautiful and sweet so I vote for it because I think you’ll enjoy the reading 😉
And the second reason is that Maria Grace is coming soon to speak about the third novel of her dragon trilogy WOW! I’m about to finish the first one, “Pemberley” and can’t wait to get the second one but knowing there’s a third book is a wonderful surprise! And with such a cover! Doesn’t Netherfield seem a chinese dragon? Well…I’ll have to wait to your post 😉
Have a nice and warm May and I hope this month goes slower!

    1. Hi sweet friend! Thank you so much! 🙂 Mr. Bingley and I are really happy to have Ernie take us on our adventures! 🙂 How lovely that you had a holiday and were able to spend time on the beach! Do you ever touch the water and see how cold it is? I do that sometimes, even though I know the water temp is freezing!

Oh yay! I’m glad you like this month’s agenda! 🙂 I’m looking forward to Maria’s visit too! She is so lovely to work with! And I know many readers are exciting about her new installment in the Dragon series!

      Thank you for voting! E – 0 / P – 1 / LfP – 1 / C – 0

  4. I vote for Presumption, simply because the author and I share the same last name. 😉 And I’ve heard lovely things about it and have it on my TBR list, too.

I can’t wait for Maria Grace’s third dragon book, too! I proofed the second and just finished proofing the third last Saturday. So if you see any typos, blame me, LOL!! 😉 The third book is amazing–I think it’s my favorite of the three! 😀

    Warmly,
    Susanne 🙂

    1. How coincidental! 🙂

      Thank you for voting! E – 0 / P – 2 / LfP – 1 / C – 0

Love hearing that! I’m so excited for Maria! 🙂

  5. Ditching Mr. Darcy is in the Cover Wars. I hope the don’t pit some of our favorite covers against each other. I like that they feature a JAFF cover. I have already pre-ordered my dragon book. OMG!! That series is amazing. I am looking forward to Lory Lillian interview.

Loved your pictures… say hello to Mr. Bingley and way cool truck dude. Yep… musicians rock.

  6. I’m going to go with Connivance for the vote just because its older and I’m curious. 🙂

Seriously, April was just gone. I keep trying to type ‘fours’ in dates and write ‘April’ in. I’ve nearly missed two deadlines and one appointment because it didn’t register that it’s May. Fun times visiting the parks during Mr. B’s trips. Glad your recitals went well and leave you with some beach time.

Nice line up there of authors and books. 🙂

    Have a great May, Meredith!

    1. Interesting choice! It is quite old and I believe about Persuasion which is interesting!

      Thank you for voting! E – 0 / P – 2 / LfP – 1 / C – 1

Oh no! I hope the deadlines and appointment weren’t too difficult to reschedule or make! 😉 It just feels like the whole year is happening at warp speed!

Thank you! I’m excited to see where May takes us! Hope you enjoy a lovely month of reads, my friend!

  7. Just wondering where you visited in Ireland Meredith? Would like to know if you passed close to my county or not.

  8. Great photos! I must say, I’m not disappointed April is over…the weather was cold, windy, snowy and icy! The last day of April was the best! I’m loving your line up of books and guests! I vote for Presumption for it is the first Austenesque book I ever read, so it holds a special place in my heart! I know I enjoyed it and have read it several times. I also enjoyed Letters from Pemberley as well as the sequel to it. Looking forward to Maria’s visit and I too have pre-ordered it! I have Austenistan on my wish list, so look forward to your guests arriving! Enjoy the beautiful weather on tap for May!

    1. Thank you, Carole dear! 🙂 I know April seemed to have some snow for people and that is just not cool! 😉 So glad you are seeing better weather though! Hopefully all threats of snow and ice are gone!

      Thank you for voting! E – 0 / P – 3 / LfP – 1 / C – 1

Hope you enjoy a lovely month!

  9. Hi Meredith, great photos. We went to Madeira and had a lovely time. Lots of walks and we were very lucky with the weather. Looking forward to your review of Lory’s book and I vote for presumption.

    1. I saw, Michelle! Loved your pictures and the beautiful colors everywhere! So glad you had some good luck with the weather! 🙂

      Thank you for voting! E – 0 / P – 4 / LfP – 1 / C – 1

  10. Can’t really vote on books I have not read. And I only read one of the ones you already plan to read and review, A Very Merry Mix-up. I have been reading Netherfield as a WIP and plan to read the published edition now. Thanks for sharing; your photos are lovely and your trips sounded great.

  11. Fantastic photos, Meredith and I love the name Mr. B. has chosen for his truck! Lots if fascinating looking books coming up this month for you. Can’t wait to see what you think of Maria Grace’s third Dragon novel. I was fortunate enough to have a sneak preview during the editing stage, like Susanne, and it’s amazing! The way she’s woven a completely believable alternative universe around the characters and events of P&P is wonderful.

As to my vote for your TBR read, I’m going for Connivance, simply because it’s Persuasion rather than P&P.

    1. Thank you, sweet friend! 🙂 I’m loving all I am hearing about the Dragon series! A lot of people are singing its praises! 🙂

      Thank you for voting! E – 0 / P – 4 / LfP – 1 / C – 2 I am intrigued by that as well!

  12. I’m voting for “Expectations” just because I love that cover 😉
Yay! Looking forward to the feature of “Austenistan” — that is super on my To Read list!
And you were soooo close to me on your hike 🙂 I’m glad you got to see my beloved Uwharries

    1. I agree! That is a pretty cover! The one on my copy is different though. 🙂 I’m so glad you are looking forward to that post! I am too as I’m very eager to read Austeinstan! 😉 We may be in that area again, I’ll be sure to let you know, maybe we can meet up for some coffee? 😉
