Austenesque Agenda – November 2016

AA

You have got to be kidding me…it’s November?!?  Already? Ack!

We had a very exciting October!  It started with Hurricane Matthew (which thankfully wasn’t as bad as predicted) and ended the month with a family wedding and mini-holiday to Vermont!  Which was a new state for Mr. Bingley and I to visit together!

The wedding took place in this charming village called Grafton and the inn is where all the events of the wedding took place and all the wedding guests could stay on site too.  It was so lovely!!!  Felt like we were in another time!

It was so cool to stay in a place dating back to 1801 and learn that other distinguished guests stayed there too, like Ulysses S. Grant, Henry David Thoreau, Theodore Roosevelt, Woodrow Wilson, Nathaniel Hawthorne, and Ralph Waldo Emerson!

In between wedding activities we went about exploring the village on foot.  We were so amazed by the beauty of the trees and fall foliage!  (Something we don’t really see here in coastal NC!)

Sadly I don’t have any pics of the actual wedding to share.  We decided to “unplug” during the ceremony, and during the reception we were too busy dancing!!!  But hopefully the wedding photographers got some good shots!! 😀

  1. The only one I’ve read from your reading schedule is “The Coming of Age” by Caitlin Williams. What a fabulous read. Can’t wait to hear how you loved it too!

  2. I read For Darkness Shows the Stars many years ago and always meant to reread it so as to post a review. I have not read the Persuaded one and since it seems you are leaning that way I will vote for it. Your photos are just gorgeous! So nice to hear you had a lovely time. Thanks for sharing.

    1. I now realize that it was so long ago that I read that book that it totally slipped my memory that it, too, is a Persuasion book but my vote will stand.

    2. Thanks, Sheila! It was a great time, just went too fast!!

I know what you mean about it being so long that you forget some details about the books you’ve read! That’s why I’m glad I started to write reviews! 🙂

      FDSTS – 1 / P – 0 Thanks for voting! 🙂

  3. Ooooo. Used to live in New York State and miss those fall colors so much! Don’t get that in Texas, 🙁 Such gorgeous photos, Meredith.

mm, mm, Mmm! Wonderful lineup for November, I’ve contemplated a few on your agenda and really look forward to your reviews. Great guests too.

    I’m voting for Persuaded. 🙂

    1. Thanks, Michelle! Yes it is such a beautiful time of year for those that live those areas! Mr. Bingley never saw it before and was quite impressed! He kept teasing me about how excited I was to see the leaves! 😉

Glad you like the agenda for this month! I’m real excited to get into all these stories!

      FDSTS – 1 / P – 1 Thanks for voting! 🙂

  4. What a great time of year to visit Vermont! I grew up in New England, and that’s the only state I haven’t yet had a chance to visit. I hope you loved A Moment Forever as much as I did. And I cast my vote for Persuaded!

    1. Yes! We were so happy they chose to have the wedding there! The rest of the family is settled in New Hampshire and Massachussetts, which got to drive through. But Vermont was very lovely!

Oh I did love A Moment Forever, will post my review on Monday! 🙂

      FDSTS – 1 / P – 2 Thanks for voting!

  5. I have always wished to visit New England in the fall and see the leaves. The inn is just beautiful. Love all the books you are reviewing. I loved Cat Gardiner’s books, but I love anything she writes. And I have the others on my Kindle already or TBR list. I have no idea which Persuasion book to read, so I will leave that up to the others. Looking forward to November’s reviews very much!

    1. It was such a special trip and great fun to share with my family! 🙂 I’m so glad the bride and groom chose such a beautiful setting for the wedding!!

I’m real excited about the books on this month’s agenda! 🙂 Can’t wait to read them!

  6. Oops, I forgot Leslie’s book, which I also read and loved! Just skipped right over that! Sorry! I always love Leslie’s look at Austen!

  7. Beautiful photos Meredith. What a gorgeous place! I have read The coming of Age of Elizabeth Bennet and Particular Intentions. I have all Cat’s other books and look forward to WaC. I will definitely get A Moment Forever as I so love her writing, the only reason I don’t already have it is because it doesn’t have Darcy and Elizabeth in it but I have seen great reviews so I will await yours Meredith. Thanks for this great post.

    1. Thanks, my friend! It was gorgeous, although it was also a bit cold! Temps were in the 30s and 40s! 🙂

I’ll post my review for A Moment Forever on Monday. 🙂 There is definitely a reason that book has so many positive reviews! 🙂

Thanks for checking out my post!

  8. Oh my word!! What a beautiful looking place. And that four poster bed looks wonderful. I’ll opt for Persuaded as I really don’t like the sound of the other one. But hey, each to their own.

  9. Thanks for sharing the Grafton pics! Ver montón is such BEAUTIFUL Paradise! I wish I had such views from my window 🙂
You’ve been very lucky saying there!. I see many books close to the fireplace, did you see any interesting one among them?
Speaking of your books I choose “Persuaded”.
    Have a nice week!

    1. It was beautiful, Teresa! Thanks for checking out my photos! 🙂 I wish we could have stayed longer, the whole weekend went real fast!

I’m afraid I didn’t check out the books! They do look charming though, don’t they?

      FDSTS – 1 / P – 5 Thanks for voting! 🙂

  10. Fabulous photos Meredith. To visit Boston is on my wish list. Some good books to review and i look forward to your reviews. I vote for Persuaded xx

    1. Thanks, Michelle! We flew into Boston, wish we could have spent some more time there. Hopefully next time!

I’m glad you are looking forward to the reviews! 😀

      FDSTS – 1 / P – 6 Thanks for voting!

  11. I haven’t yet read any of the books you’ve listed, Meredith, but I’ve got The Coming of Age of Elizabeth Bennet on my Kindle and have just ordered a copy of For Darkness Shows the Stars, having read about it on Ceri Tanti’s blog, so my vote goes for that one.

I’m so looking forward to WaC and reading more of the Iceman’s adventures. Cat’s books are always so good and I’ve been a bit derelict in not yet getting a copy of A Moment Forever.

Currently I’m on tour following several new and pending releases. It’s a particularly rich and exciting season for new JAFF isn’t it?

    1. I hope you get the chance to read those two books soon! 🙂 A Moment Forever is wonderful! Definitely a different experience, for me at least!

Yes, I agree it a busy season! Wish I could read and blog full time, but even then I probably wouldn’t keep up!! LOL!

      FDSTS – 2 / P – 6 Thanks for voting!

  12. Have always wanted to travel North and see the leaves change. We get a little color here in Ky, but would still love to see a real Fall.
I vote for Persuaded, which I have read and greatly enjoyed.

    1. Exactly! It isn’t the same here in the south. 🙂 Although, while I love a northern fall, I prefer our mild winters to theirs! I’ve heard that Vermont had snow the week after the wedding! o_O

      FDSTS – 2 / P – 7 Thanks for voting! 🙂

  13. I’ve read both Persuaded and For Darkness Shows the Stars…..they are both really great reads…you could start with either, but For Darkness….is Sci-fi young adult, so it’s fun for those reasons too.

    1. Hi Lily! That’s wonderful to hear you thought both books were great! 🙂 I don’t read many sci-fi young adult, so that would definitely be a change up for me! 🙂

    1. Awesome, Candy! I know you have been enjoying a lot of dystopian books lately, I hope you like this one as well!

      FDSTS – 3 / P – 7 Thanks for voting! 🙂

  14. I’ve only driven through Vermont in January- pretty in the snow, but I have stayed in Maine a few times and I imagine the fall foliage and small village atmosphere is similar. Grafton looks lovely and particularly that inn. Glad it was a lovely trip and wedding.

Fun authors and books coming to your blog for this month. This reminds me that I need to read Coming of Age and the new Darcy Iceman story.

I’m starting For Darkness Shows the Stars with the Austenesque Lovers group, but I’ve heard great things about Persuaded and that author, too. So I have no idea which to suggest. Fortunately, there seems to be plenty of votes from others. 🙂

    Have a great November!

    1. Hi Sophia! We definitely enjoyed the small taste of New England we got on this trip! Hopefully we can travel there again soon. We’ve never been to Maine.

I thought I remembered seeing about the group read being for FDSTS! I’ll look forward to hearing your thoughts on that one! I’ve had it on my wishlist for years!

Hope you have a lovely November too!

  15. Ooh what a lovely place, Meredith! I’m not fond of the fall season but I have to admit that it has a kind of magic in it. I love the colours in the last picture!

Looking forward to your thoughts on A Moment Forever and the new Holiday with Jane collection! 🙂 As for my vote, I’ll pick Persuaded because I have a copy of that one and I’m very curious to know how it is! 😛

    Happy reading!

    1. The beauty did feel magical! 🙂 Wish I could see that view on every fall day! 🙂

I’m glad to hear you are looking forward to A Moment Forever and Holidays with Jane! I’m posting the review of one tomorrow! 🙂

Hope you have a great month, Maria!

      FDSTS – 3 / P – 8 Thanks for voting! 🙂

  16. Thanks for sharing the amazing photos, Meredith!! Wow, what stunning colours! And the place you stayed in, looks like you travelled back in time!

Same as Christina, the only book on your list that I read was Caitlin Williams’s ‘Coming of Age of EB’ and HAD to stay up till the early hours of the morning to finish it – an amazing read! Can’t wait for your review of that and all the others. Have a good November!

    1. Hi Joana!! It felt like we traveled back in time! 🙂 We absolutely adored it! 🙂

I finished Caitlin’s book two days ago, it was amazing! I didn’t stay up late like you, but I certainly neglected poor Mr. Bingley!!! 😉
