Austenesque Agenda – April 2016

AA

Again, I must thank all you lovely friends and readers for your patience with me this last month.  I know I haven’t been around the blog as much as I would have liked to! And now I will tell you why…

Pre-surgery!

Mr. Bingley had minor back surgery this past week, actually just 5 days ago.  This surgery was to help a herniated disc which was a result from a car accident we were in back in August 2014 (we got rear-ended by an Escalade.)  The herniated disc pinched a nerve and gave him constant pain and discomfort in his left leg ever since.

Post-surgery!

Since neither of us ever had surgery before, we tried many other remedies first – steroid packs, chiropractor treatments, cortisone shots…but to no avail.  They never gave any relief.  So we settled on surgery since we learned in was non-invasive and could be an out-patient procedure.  Which finally took place this past Wednesday.

And I am happy to say that the surgery went very well! No more nerve pain and my sweet Mr. Bingley is on the mend!  😀

So, with going to doctor appointments, prepping for surgery, and tending to my patient I was spending a little less time on my computer this past month!

But things are looking better for April!  Yay!

FullSizeRender (1)I started the month by going to our library’s biannual book sale and scoring big with some books on my wish-list and some books that I’ve heard of and haven’t read yet!

Book
I’m super excited about these awesome books I found! Especially Edenbrooke! 🙂

My brother and I make this our tradition every six months and I love it!  Would have gone to the beach to read afterwards but it was an extremely gray day that looked like it rain!

  1. So proud that Mr. Bingley is doing so well and look forward to seeing what you think of all those books you got at the library and the interviews you have scheduled.

  2. I’m so glad the procedure went well and hope it brings long term relief. Happy reading and I look forward to your reviews

  3. We are all so very glad that Mr. Bingley has gone through his surgery so beautifully. Bless you sweet people. Some month you had.

Really looking forward to this month’s reviews and guest appearances!!

    1. Thank you, Michelle! It has been an interesting ride…since December we knew surgery was our next step, but the surgeon had a 3 month waiting list for new patients! Suffice to say we are very glad to have all that waiting behind us!

  4. Glad to hear Mr. Bingley is on the mend. Back pain is so debilitating! Love the books you have scored! I gave my granddaughter the ‘Jane Eyre’ babylit book at Christmas. Edenbrooke is on my Amazon wishlist. You are going to love Cassandra’s trilogy. It is one of my favourites! I just recently read ‘On Oakham Mount’ and really enjoyed it. Here’s to a much better April all around!!

    1. Thank you, Carole! It has definitely hindered Mr. Bingley’s enjoyment of life – he wasn’t able to sit for very long and had to stop playing with bands recently. My heart goes out to people that continue to live with this pain long-term.

I love the BabyLit books! We are collecting them…don’t have any bambinos yet, but want to have a library ready for them! LOL! We think they are so adorable!

I think I’ve had my eye on Edenbrooke for over two years now! So happy to have it!

Glad to hear you are enjoying On Oakham Mount – I greatly enjoyed the sample of it I read!

Thanks for the kind words and wishes!

  5. Poor Mr. Bingley, I hope he makes a quick recovery! I’m sure the Captain American T-shirt will help. I’m looking forward to reading your reviews, especially since I just bought “On Oakham Mount.”

  6. I’m really glad Mr. Bingley has had his back problem sorted out. I’m currently suffering from a similar one, have had two MRI scans and am currently taking meds for it. The surgery may be an option for me too, but fingers crossed, the symptoms look like they’re resolving by themselves. The nerve pain was horrible around six weeks ago but was accompanied by numbness as well!

You may remember that I chose Cassandra Grafton’s trilogy as part of my Desert Island Five last year. I’m sure you won’t be disappointed with it, Meredith. I was fortunate enough to meet and have lunch with her in 2014, as she used to live in my home town and was paying a visit back. She’s a lovely lady and was gracious enough to sign all three volumes for me.

Looks like you’ve got some good stuff planned for this month.

    1. That’s great to hear that the symptoms seem to be getting better for your back problem, Anji! I hope one way or another you will feel lasting and consistent relief soon. The way the surgeon talked he said the disk rupture was “ginormous” it sounds like we should have considered surgery a lot earlier than we did.

That’s right! You did pick it as one of your Desert Island Five. 🙂 Cassandra seems so wonderful and kind! How great that you got to meet her in person!

  7. Glad to hear that your sweet love is on the mend. You are such a cute couple. Really looking forward to the author interviews this month and how things are going in your gorgeous book nook!

    1. Thank you, Michelle! I’m hoping he can feel like himself soon and go back to doing all the things he loves. I’m excited about the author visits too! Will hopefully have some new photos to share of my nook soon!

  8. Went through the same thing with my guy two years ago. It’s hard to have them in pain so I’m glad your Mr. Bingley is doing so well.

Library sales are like the best treasure hunts. You did find some good ones.

I need to read that Cassandra Grafton trio, too.

    1. It seems a lot of people have experience back pain and learn to cope with it one way or another. We met someone who had it for 6 years, but I don’t think they had surgery.

Yes, I get on my hands and knees to dig for these treasures (they have some boxes under the tables) Definitely feel like I found some precious gold!

  9. Glad Mr Bingley is ok. My brother had back surgery a couple of years ago and it’s no joke. On the book front I think you’ll really enjoy Edenbrooke. I read it last year and loved it. Sense and Sensibility is a great read. But be prepared, you’ll want to go out and buy the others from Sarah once you’ve read it.

    1. Thanks Teresa! I hope your brother’s surgery went well. I’ve heard so many good things about Edenbrooke – greatly looking forward to reading it! And I’m glad you enjoyed Sense and Sensibility too!

  10. Hi Meredith! I am so glad everything went well with Mr Bingley’s surgery. Surgery is a scary option, but well worth it if all the pain has gone.

I love seeing your library sale hauls, and you’ve got yourself some interesting books there. That Little Miss Bronte one looks super-cute, I am just sorry my kids are too old for them 🙁 I’ll look forward to seeing what you think of your reads. I think I only have one of your library finds, but I have all four of your planned Austenesque reads unread on my kindle!

    1. Thank you, Ceri! It did feel the scariest option at first, but then again there is a lot of advancement in medicine all the time. Mr. Bingley’s surgery was a 45 minute procedure, years ago it was something that took several hours.

The mix of books from my library sale is interesting! Only one is truly Austenesque! 🙂

  11. I’m very glad Mr Bingley is well! Tell him: “Mucho ánimo desde España “.
You’ve found wonderful treasures in the biannual book sale! Happy reading!. I’m looking forward to April 23rd because in Spain we celebrate the Day of the Book and the bookshops show a lot of novels with a discount and It’s exciting to buy a good amount of novels 🙂
It’s a pity you couldn’t go to the beach due to the weather because reading on the beach is such a relaxing experience! Today, in Madrid is raining cats and dogs! . A big hug!

    1. Thank you, Teresa! So kind of you! I hope you have a fantastic day April 23rd! What a great celebration! Please do share with us your haul if you go on a shopping spree! 😀

  12. So sorry you and Mr. Bingley had to go through his back problems but hopeful all will be well now. I love Cassandra’s trilogy! Looks like you have some good reading to do this month.

  13. So glad to hear Mr. Bingley is on the mend! Hope I can carve out time to read even half of what’s on your plate this month.

  14. Best wishes to Mr. B for a speedy recovery. Looks like a great month of reading planned. I look forward to your reviews. Happy Spring 🙂

  15. Thoughts and prayers will be going out for your Mr. Bingley. Do hope that this is a permanent fix. Your haul from the library looks good – congratulations. Wish we has something like that here. I am sure you are going to enjoy the books you have on your agenda. I have read all but Rose Fairbanks’ book and the Sarah Price books. Thank for sharing and take good care of your sweetie.

    1. Thank you, Sheila! We appreciate it! It has now been a week and I so happy to see him be able to return to doing things he couldn’t before…like sitting on our couch and cuddling with me! 😉

Hope you are having a wonderful month, Sheila!

  16. I’m sorry to hear that you and your dear Mr. Bingley had such a difficult month! But I’m glad to know that he’s recovering! Hope he gets well soon! 😉
As for books, Edenbrooke?? I love it!! I really hope you enjoy it, too! The heroine is lovely and the hero… *sighs*… he’s wonderful!
Can’t wait to read your thoughts on Cassandra Grafton’s series!

    1. To be honest, Jan and Feb were much harder! We were just waiting and counting the days to our appointment. 🙂 But we are very happy that all that has come and gone now!

Oh wow! You are making me want to read Edenbrooke so bad! LOL! I can’t wait to meet the hero and heroine! 🙂

      1. I know what you mean. Sometimes waiting for something to happen is terrible! Especially when it comes to something as scary as a surgery. Glad to know that everything is fine now! 🙂

        Hehe, you’re in for a treat! 😉

  17. So wonderful to hear that Mr Bingley’s surgery went well and fixed the problem, that’s brilliant news, so happy for both of you! Have a wonderful spring 🙂

    1. Aww. Thank you, Joana! Now with the surgery behind us, hopefully Mr. Bingley can travel to more conventions and we can have a chance to meet up again! 😀

Your conversation and participation are always welcome; please feel free to "have your share."
