Austenesque Agenda – September 2015

AA

Hello sweet readers!  I hope you are enjoying your September so far!  August was such a busy month for Mr. Bingley and…we are kind of glad to be in September now, hoping it is a little more quiet!

Here is a little update of what we had going on last month…

I turned 30!  Ahhh! And my mom surprised me with this delicious pig-themed (my favorite animal) chocolate eclair cake!  Sooooo good!

And I was spoiled rotten with some lovely Janeite gifts from all my loved ones!

You might have wondered why things were quite around here last week…well Mr. Bingley and snuck off to our favorite paradise in Punta Cana, DR again for some rest and much needed relaxation.

But we almost had a brush with Tropical Storm Erika! Thankfully she decided not to make Punta Cana her destination though and all that happened was a morning of wind and light rain!

And here is an update on Netherfield! (Yep, after reading all the comments last month, Mr. Bingley and I settled on calling our future home Netherfield. It really is the most fitting since I’m married to Mr. Bingley! Thank you for all the awesome feedback and suggestions!)  As you can see we now have walls and a roof!

Want to know what Austenesque fun I’m getting into this month?

…here is what’s on this month’s

Austenesque Agenda:

~ TO REVIEW ~

Denial of Conscience

~ TO READ AND REVIEW ~

Sketching Mr. Darcy Pride and Prejudice-Disdain and Deception

Mary Bennet A Will of Iron

~ YOU CHOOSE! ~

Anna Weston MAnsfield Letters

Betcha haven’t come across these two!  I did years ago and put them on my wishlist.  Found really good deals for them on abebooks.com (used of course).  Much more reasonable than the $20-$70 each available from Amazon third-party sellers. These two old and out-of-print sequels seemed very interesting to me and there currently aren’t many reviews written about either.  Which one would you rather see me read?  Anna Weston by Brenda Finn or Mansfield Letters by Paula Atchia? To vote leave a comment below!

….And Big Announcement!

Clueless Movie Watch

Austenesque Reviews is turning 6 this month, so I thought it would be fun to celebrate with a Blog Event!  (My last event was 2 years ago when we did a group-watch of Bridget Jones’s Diary!)  This year I thought it would be fun to do a group-watch of Clueless! Due to the Emma bicentennial, the 20th anniversary of the movie Clueless, and Paul Rudd’s adorableness it seemed the perfect fit!

  • What is a group watch?  Where we all watch the same movie in our individual homes and start it at the same time.
  • How can you participate?  Have a copy of Clueless ready to watch (I think it is available on Netflix) and chat it up with us here on Austenesque Reviews!
  • We will have some fun giveaways and other Clueless related posts the week of the event, so even if you can’t participate in the actual watch you can share in the Clueless love!

So excited about September! Woot!  What are your plans for this month?

  1. I have to make sure I can get a copy on either Netflix or from Redbox but would like to participate in the event. I could not find any information of those two books but vote for the Emma sequel: Anna Weston.

Glad your getaway was not totally ruined by the hurricane. Excited to see your house taking form…love the name, Netherfield. So appropriate – great choice.

  2. Hi Meredith, glad you have decided on Netherfield, it could not really be anything else. You and Mr Bingley always look like you have good fun together and always happy. Great idea about the event and I would love to take part but not sure what the time difference will be? I have read Sketching Mr Darcy and it is brilliant and Lory is one of my favourite Jaff authors. I also like Jan’s books and v excited she has a new title out too. All the books are really good so my vote would be for either Joana or Linda’s book.

    1. Very true, Michelle. When you say Netherfield you automatically think of the Bingleys. 🙂 I’m hoping the time difference works out okay for anyone who wants to participate. Glad you enjoyed Sketching Mr. Darcy – looking forward to reading it myself!

  3. Hi Meredith! The house looks like it’s coming on really well. You have some nice stuff coming up this month. As you know, I managed to get a copy of the MP-inspired book after you made me aware of its existence and I’ve taken a sneaky look at it. I can’t find out much about ‘Anna Weston’, though, and since it is Emma’s bicentenary I will vote for that one 🙂

  4. Hi Meredith !
What a beautiful gifts for your birthday! The Mug, the bookmarks so elegant…
I’m glad you enjoyed your Punta Cana Hola days in spite of Erika LOL!
Your Netherfield is becoming wonderful! , it’s big and amazing, Congrats!
The september agenda is so complete, with Joana Starnes, a book about Mary Bennet, and the lovely cover of “Sketching character “!.
It was fun the Bridget Jones group and Clueless will be the same. Although it will be late, at night, in Spain , it will be nice to stop by the site to say Hello and enjoy the experiencia, thanks! 🙂

    1. Thank you, Teresa! I was spoiled something rotten. 🙂 It’s exciting to see how quickly things are moving along with Netherfield! I’m glad you are as excited about the upcoming books and authors! Hopefully it won’t be too late for you to join us for the group watch! I usually try to aim for a time that works for our friends across the pond. 😉

  5. Best wishes for your birthday (the cake is adorable) and your new home!!
I am intrigued by “Anna Weston” and hope to be able to be part of the group watch (I have never seen Clueless, shame on me!!) 🙂

    1. Thank you, Carmen! 😉 It’s been an exciting month.

Would be an awesome for your first watch of Clueless to be the group watch! 😉

      Thanks for voting! 🙂 AW – 3 / ML – 0

  6. Adorable cake and gifts and what fun to sneak away to a pretty spot. So glad the storm skirted you and look at that home coming together nicely.

I vote for Mansfield Letters though they both look good. Nice catches!

The Clueless watch sounds fun. I only watched it for my first time this year as part of my attempt to watch/read Emma related things.

    Looking forward to September!

    1. Thank you, Sophia! I think I read that you were traveling too recently. Hope you had fun!

I’m long overdue for a Clueless re-watch. 😉 Got myself a new copy on BluRay in anticipation.

      Thanks for voting! 🙂 AW – 3 / ML – 1

  7. Happy birthday!! I am so glad you were able to celebrate with a fun vacation. The September line up looks great. I read Sketching Mr Darcy and loved it. I always love Lori Lillian’s books! I have a will of iron on my bedside waiting for when I finish FD an Honorable man. By the way, I really enjoyed the discussion thread on your recent review. After thinking about it I do agree that these books would not be the same with different names. I only take issue when the characters are so altered that they do not resemble our Lizzy and Darcy! In this case, while the scenario is very far from the P&P story line, the characters ring true and the strength of their love is very compelling. My exciting JA news is that I am introducing my niece to the love of all things Austen!! it is so fun to share this wonderful world with and eager young reader!!

I will vote for Mansfield Letters because I like the cover art!!

Happy Septemnber and congrats on the house- Netherfiled is being built at last!!!

    1. The vacation was much needed! It was perfect! 🙂 That was an interesting discussion – I admit, I sometimes ask myself the same question when reading variations or modern adaptation that don’t share much resemblance to the original. That is some exciting news! How old is your niece? I have one who is 6 and I’m wondering when would be a good age to start her! 🙂

LOL! Yes, I can just here Mrs. Bennet now!

      Thanks for voting! 🙂 AW – 4 / ML – 2

  8. Lovely to see you and Mr Bingley having such fun, you look so happy! But then you always do, it’s so great to look at your photos, you always put a smile on my face.

Best of luck with the new house, can’t wait to see you established at ‘Netherfield’. Have you got a short-list of names for your new home yet?

Thanks for having me at Austenesque Reviews, it’s always such an honour and a huge pleasure. Can’t wait to be there! Hugs,
    Joana

    1. It’s all Mr. Bingley…sometimes it astounds me how much he is Mr. Bingley. My husband is gifted with such a positive outlook and demeanor it can’t help but rub off on me. 🙂 I have a tendency to brood and obsess, Mr. Bingley pulls me out of that and cheers me up no matter what! 😉

I think we settled on Netherfield – plain and simple. It was the most popular suggestion last month and we agreed that Mr. Bingley and his wife belong there. 🙂

Looking forward to your visit with much anticipation, my friend! I can’t believe we are celebrating your 5th release when two years ago you were coming to visit my blog and celebrate your first! Congrats on all your success these past two years!

  9. Meredith, I just checked my calendar. September 26th my husband and I are babysitting our 2 grandchildren while their parents are at a wedding late. The Pope will be in town in Philadelphia…nearby. So we won’t get home, what with traffic, until even later. So I will miss the group watch, unfortunately. Have fun with it, everyone.

      1. Thanks for letting me know it is on Netflix. I have seen it twice and, ironically, it is one of the few take-offs in DVDs that I have not purchased. I may just have to do that.

  10. I loved your pics. I’m so happy you didn’t get caught by “Erika”. We haven’t been to punta Cana but we did enjoy the DR last year. I vote “anna Weston” but I have no idea why. I tried to get more info on the two choices but not much info to be found. I have a couple samples of ones on your tbr list that have made it on my wish list. I love the “netherfield” idea and “netherfield cottage” also. Your house is looking very good.

We’ve been finishing up gardening, getting ready for school next week, getting ready for travel here in our state while kids are camping.

    1. That’s awesome that you will be doing some traveling soon! How fun! 🙂 Gardening sounds fun too, I’m afraid I don’t have a green thumb, or else I’d love to do that too!

      Thanks for voting! 🙂 AW – 5 / ML – 2

  11. Such lovely pictures! I’m glad your vacation went well despite Erika! 😀 And also that you had a wonderful birthday! That cake sounds so good!! I love chocolate! I recently finished “Prejudice Meets Pride” and it was a delightful story. Hope you enjoy it! And woot woot for the walls and roof of Netherfield!! So happy for you, sweet friend! 😉
Look forward to reading your thoughts on Disdain and Deception (I should read it this month too). I also hope to read Yours truly, Mr. Darcy by the same author.
    I’ll vote for Mansfield Letters.

    1. Thank you for stopping by, Maria! The cake was soooo good! Hardly had any of it leftover. I’m glad you enjoyed Prejudice Meets Pride it looks fun. Just started Disdain and Deception…quite a surprising premise.

      Thanks for voting! 🙂 AW – 5 / ML – 3
