Austenesque Agenda – June 2015

AA

Hello my dear friends!  Happy June! 🙂  I hope you are all enjoying a lovely week!  This Austenesque Agenda is coming to you while I’m in transit! 🙂  Yes, Mr. Bingley and I are going on a short holiday to celebrate his turning 30!!! 😀

Where are we going?  One of our favorite cities!  NYC!

It was my idea to celebrate his birthday by going to NYC – we love going to shows and we love eating…and NYC has the best of both of those! So I thought it would be fun to spend three days going to all the places he loves in NYC, discovering some new ones, and seeing some new shows.

Tonight-Show-Jimmy-Fallon

The first show  I wanted us to try and see was the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, but unfortunately we aren’t doing that.  (Wowza is it hard to get tickets!)  While we made it into the online queue and got to the calendar page to reserve tickets – they didn’t have any tickets left for the nights we needed when we got there….I imagine Friday and Monday nights probably sell-out first since they are so close to the weekend.  No worries, we will try again some other time!

The shows we are going to see instead are:

Act_of_God.jpg.pagespeed.ce.-yHsZmiARZj97_656L4z

Which we are very excited about!  It will be our first time seeing The Lion King on Broadway and our first time seeing a non-musical Broadway show!  We are very excited about both!

Will share some photos with you all next month! 🙂

  1. Happy to hear you and Pedro are going for a short trip. I need one myself too!

Let’s compare notes for The Trouble With Flirting so my vote goes there. Moreover there are not many YA which focus on Mansfield Park. Here’s my review if you’ll be so kind as to read it.

    1. Thank you, Sylvia! I hope you get a little holiday for yourself soon! 🙂

Very true about MP and YA! I love to compare notes! 🙂

    1. Always! 🙂 Although after this trip I think life will slow down, but I plan to fill up my time with more reading!

  2. Happy 30th, Mr. Bingley! Sounds like a fun trip, Meredith! I like seeing shows, too. Look forward to your post to see your explorations and thoughts.

Nice line up of books and authors for June.

My vote is for Once Upon a Second Chance.

    1. Thank you, Sophia! Mr. Bingley thank you too! 🙂 It was so much fun to see all the shows – we had a blast! We snuck in a third show and saw Chicago too, which was very well done!

      Thanks for voting! 🙂 TTWF – 1 / OUASC – 2

  3. I vote for The Trouble with flirting. I liked it and I would love to know what you think! Have fun reading!

    1. That’s great to hear, Arjanne. I loved the first book I read by Claire LaZebnik – Epic Fail. Have you read that one?

      Thanks for voting! 🙂 TTWF – 2 / OUASC – 2

  4. I am voting for “Once Upon a Second Chance” for purely selfish reasons! First, it’s already on my wishlist and I’d like to get your take on it. Second, “Persuasion” is my favorite Austen story, and since this is based upon it, you just have to do it! We need more stories based upon “Persuasion”.

    1. LOL! I like your reasons! 🙂 And I quite agree – more Persuasion stories would definitely be welcome!

      Thanks for voting! 🙂 TTWF – 2 / OUASC – 3

  5. I saw The Lion King on Broadway years ago. – loved it and I know you will also. The costumes were amazing, much less the music. I vote for Once upon a Second Chance. Happy 30th, “Mr. Bingley”

    1. It. was. incredible. Sheila! I was brought to tears by the shear beauty and wonder of everything in the opening song. It was so amazing how they did the costumes, animals, and pupeteering. It truly is like the NY Times said – there is nothing else like it! So glad we got to see it!

      Thanks for voting! 🙂 TTWF – 2 / OUASC – 4

  6. BTW: yours truly also has a birthday this month so it is a good month in which to be born, is it not, Mr. Bingley? Wont’ tell how old i will be, tho.

  7. Hi Meredith, your trip sounds awesome! I hope you enjoyed/will enjoy it, and that Mr Bingley has a wonderful 30th. My 30th was rubbish, I was both pregnant and ill, all I arranged was a meal with friends and they ended up going without us because I was too sick!

You have a great line up for this month, I’m looking forward to it! My vote for the reader choice is the Mansfield Park book, I’ve heard that one is good. I hope you have a wonderful June.

    1. Thank you, Ceri! We did enjoy it! We had a blast with our shows – (I still can’t believe we saw Jim Parsons live!!!!) I’m so sorry to hear your 30th was rubbish! Hopefully you more than made up for it the next year!

I’m very excited about all the reads and visits this month! So much to look forward too!

  8. I hope you enjoy in NYC with your shows, I imagine that the Lion King must be thrilling!. And Happy birthday to Mr Bingley 🙂 what a cool way of celebrating his age!. I have spent some days in vacation and now, in fact, I’m travelling by train to return home. I have been in the beach, in a beautiful village called Peñiscola, at the east of Spain. When I got there I found out that this place has been chosen to film the new season of “Game of Thrones “!. I don’t see these series but It’s always fun to discover the places where famous series or movies take place and in this case, It has been a good decision because this village has a beautiful medieval castle in the top of the hill, close to the sea and the scenario is outstanding!.
In these days by the beach I took with me a Georgette Heyer’s: “The grand Sophie ” And I like It a lot!.
Speaking of your agenda, I vote for “The trouble with flirting “. I look forward to hearing from the new of Kara Louise. 😉

    1. Thank you, Teresa!! The Lion King was amazing! Such a spectacular feast for your eyes and ears! Mr. Bingley is the king of celebrating birthdays with surprises, so I had to pull out the big guns with him turning 30! That’s wonderful that you enjoyed a little holiday! I love going to the beach! And like you I love to see places that were used in films and shows! I bet the castle looked amazing!

I’ve not read The Grand Sophie yet! It is one I’ve heard many good things about though! Glad you enjoyed reading it on your holiday!

  9. Happy Birthday to your sweetie, 30 is special and you’ll be making some wonderful memories. Impressive agenda for June! No surprise there, and yet I am still impressed at how much you accomplish for our enjoyment every month. Come back from your trip relaxed, and refreshed, and happy. Looking forward to the reviews and the guests.

    1. Aww! Thank you, Michelle! LOL! I’m afraid a trip to NYC is never relaxing for us – there is so much to do and see and we always take in as much as we can. Poor Mr. Bingley got blisters from all the walking and we both have sore muscles in our legs and feet! But we saw amazing shows and ate incredible food so we can’t complain! 🙂

  10. Happy Birthday Mr. Bingley – hope you both have a lovely time. Tomorrow I am going to Bristol to visit my daughter who is studying at University down there. We are going to Harry Potter World on Wednesday and then to the Jane Austen Centre in Bath on Thursday. Can’t wait for your views coming out on the new Kara Louise and LL Diamond book as they are two of my favourite authors. Thanks Meredity

    1. Oh your trip sounds fantastic, Michelle! I hope you have a blast – such a literary holiday!

Funny story, I had a new student yesterday and her name is Michelle Hall! Made me think of you and wonder if I would be meeting you at our studio for some piano lessons! 😉

  11. After looking at the excerpts, I vote for The Trouble with Flirting. The other one I wouldn’t like. Can’t stand books written in the present tense (“he says” instead of “he said”). It’s nice that you celebrated his 30th b-day in a big way. Can’t remember what I did on mine. Nothing extra special, maybe a steak dinner at the Outback Steakhouse? Ah, to be 30 again. I’ll be 43 on June 21. I like to get birthday freebies, like a hamburger and fries at Red Robin and I’ll be trying Jamba Juice because I get a free drink there.

If I went to New York I’d be most interested in shopping and museums and sightseeing. I saw The Mousetrap in Toronto at a small theater. I got to sit up front and could see everything, which was good because I’m short.

    1. I love the birthday freebies too! It makes for a fun week if you treat yourself to several outings! 🙂 NYC has so many possibilities and so many wonderful things to see and do – we had a lengthy list of activities we were interested in and places we wanted to eat and we definitely didn’t do them all!

      Thanks for voting! 🙂 TTWF – 6 / OUASC – 7
