Guest Post + Giveaway with Author Rachel Berman!!!

Author Guest Post3

Hello readers!  I’m very excited to be participating in the Aerendgast Blog Tour and to be able to welcome author Rachel Berman to Austenesque Reviews today!  Rachel’s new release, Aerendgast, is a fictional tale that reveals some secrets Rachel Berman photoabout Jane Austen’s life (I love those kinds of stories!)  The main character, Violet Desmond is a devoted Jane Austen fan, and Rachel has compiled a brilliant list of all the thing you might learn when you date a Jane Austen fan!  (You know how I love lists!)  I hope you all enjoy Rachel’s post!

7 Things You Learn When You Date a Jane Austen Fan

In Aerendgast, my protagonist, Violet Desmond, is a PhD and lecturer specializing in—you guessed it—Jane Austen. Suffice to say, she’s a fan of Aerendgast Coverthe author. When she meets Peter Knighton, he enters her world of history and literature and has to learn pretty quickly that being romantically entangled with a fan of Jane Austen comes with its own unique learning curve. Here are some things that might’ve helped Peter understand Violet better upon their first meeting:

1.  We Will Compare You to Our Favorite Austen Hero – Maybe you’re reserved yet gentlemanly like Darcy or sarcastic like Henry Tilney. No matter what your characteristics may be. we’ll find a way to meld them with those of our favorite leading b1b2439a4125d13be9ac7758a3578bbdman.

2. We Will Speak in Jane Austen Quotes – We don’t expect you to be able to quote back to us, though you should be able to at least recognize the more famous one-liners we’ll casually drop into almost every conversation.

3.  We’re Strong Ladies – Like Austen, we don’t settle and we know our self-worth. You’d better recognize (insert finger snap here.)

4.  We Always Want a Cup of Tea – You should know this now: Always offer us tea. sunday-photo-tea-estilotendances-1We’ll think you’re charming and we will say yes. Can’t sleep? Tea. Bad day? Tea. You see where I’m going with this.

5.  We’ll Judge You Based on Your Favorite Book – So choose wisely.

6.  We Have a Favorite Austen Film Adaptation – And we will defend it to death. Do not attempt to tell us that another is better. You will lose this battle.

7.  We Think We’re a Little Bit Like Austen – Yes, our circumstances are different than Jane’s but we have a real kinship with the author that you probably aren’t going to understand. We’re okay with that, so you should be too.

What would you add to the list?

Great list, Rachel!  And great question!  I look forward to seeing everyones’ answers!  Thank you so much for stopping by Austenesque Reviews and sharing this post with us!  I look forward to reading Aerendgast soon!  Thank you to Jakki Leatherberry and Meryton Press for making this blog tour possible!

  1. O my gosh I love it. Not only do I have to have it but am anxious to share a read with my granddaughter. I love to get into discussions with her about dating now vs. days of yore. Yhese youngsters just don’t knoow what they are missing.

  2. Hmmmm, I love this list! I think my hubby would recommend a crash course in Regency lexicon. I throw a term into a sentence and he will say is that an Austen term? lol I was lamenting not having stuff for a spur of the moment get together and I said something about there not being any white soup. My DH was completely confused. 🙂

I love the concept of this book and the cover is GORGEOUS!

  3. THAT. Was. FUN. You are adorable, can’t wait to read your book. Best of luck on this and hopefully future writing. (?????) hint, hint.

  4. I have read of this book on at least two other blogs or lists recommended by Amazon and/or Goodreads. It is already on my Wish List. White soup, indeed. Pour me some Earl Grey…thank you.

  5. I am completely diverted! What about ‘being able to convey your love by just a look’? Picture Darcy’s (Colin Firth’s) ‘look’ towards Elizabeth at the pianoforte with Georgiana! Melts your heart…
Congratulations! Love the cover and will be adding your book to my wishlist! Thank you for the chance to win it too!

  6. I am so glad that my husband has read a few of Jane Austen’s works so he at least understands me when I start talking about the books which is usually daily – the book is already on my want list

  7. I can relate to all seven of the above. When it comes to dropping quotes into conversation, I did it in the gift shop at Chawton. Hubby was totally mystified but the staff in the shop understood and smiled. Of course, I always try to give such things ‘as unstudied an air as possible’.

This will be going on my Wish List for sure.

    1. Meredith, please would you take my name out of the giveaway hat? I’ve just heard that I’ve been lucky enough to win a copy of Aerendgast on another blog.

      Looking forward to reading it!

  8. I so excited to read this book! I am curious to see how the idea is developed. I’ll be sure to leave a review on both Amazon and Goodreads once I’ve read it.

    And I use #5 for everyone I meet, I can’t help it….lol

I already bought my copy so please don’t include me in the giveaway. 🙂

  9. I would add be able to write a love letter like in persuasion. I loved your list. I read it to my husband. No word yet as to whether he’ll actually try any of it.

  10. #8. We’re devoted to our families, even if our mom is like Mrs Bennet or a sister is like Lydia. So watch what you say about our relatives!

  11. Congratulations on the new book, sound like a great read and will be going on my TBR list….

  12. I enjoyed the list. Perhaps “don’t try to talk to me when I’m reading” should be added.

I would very much like to win this book. Looking forward to reading it.

  13. Love the list! I had to laugh out loud on # 6 on your list, especially if you talk about P&P and which version had a better Darcy 1995 or 2005… people will defend their favorite to the death! 🙂

Looking forward to reading your novel and thank you for the giveaway. Thanks for hosting part of the tour Meredith! Hope you are settling after your move.

  14. I liked the list but can’t think of anything to add. Well, maybe coffee. I drink that more than tea because I need the caffeine. I just thought of one: Must be able to name some authors who write Austen books.

Your conversation and participation are always welcome; please feel free to "have your share."
