Austenesque Agenda for October 2014

Austenesque Agenda

A very happy October to you, friends!  Happy fall!

How was your September?  Mine was very eventful….perhaps more eventful than I wanted it to be.  School is back in session here and we have been very busy with lessons and new students. 🙂  So my weekdays are pretty full…which means I can sneak off to the beach as much unless it is the weekend.  Which I tried to do when it wasn’t raining!

and we’ve tried to enjoy a few visits downtown too!

You may remember a couple months ago I talked about our library’s biannual book sale.  Well, last weekend was the sale and I made some nice scores!  Never read any of them.  I’ve seen I Capture the Castle and loved it.  And I’ve never read any Georgette Heyer mysteries!  Very excited about these!

Other than that, I’ve been fighting technology and internet hackers and trolls on my blog and bookkeeping program for my business!  Hoping that mess is all over with for good now!

  1. Hi Meredith

Happy October and happy Autumn to you too. I have just joined a running club. I have also been doing the Park run every Saturday. Do you have those in the States? Every city in the UK has a Park run on a Saturday morning where everyone can join in. People even run with their dogs! It is really good fun and you run a 5k race. Afterwards you also get a time to see how well you did. I did it in 30 mins and came 418th out of 500 runners!

I have just finished reading His Uncle’s Favourite by Lory Lilian which was brilliant and about to start reading Lydia Bennett’s story by Jane Odiwe. I choose The Disappearance of Georgina Darcy only because I am a fan of Regina Jeffers and looking forward to your interview with Alexa Adams too.

    1. Hi Michelle! Good for you! We do have running clubs and lots of races here in the US. That’s awesome that you did so well in a 5k race! Congrats! I’m a very poor runner – I’m a much better walker! 🙂 We have a park that has a 1.5 mile loop real close to our house, Mr. Bingley and I try to walk the loop several mornings each week, but that is about it for me.

So thrilled to hear you loved His Uncle’s Favorite! Lory Lilian has such a way with new characters! I loved Lydia Bennet’s story – Jane Odiwe definitely transformed her in my eyes!

      Thanks for voting! 🙂 TDL – 0 / TDGD – 1

  2. I love Regina Jeffers so I hope you choose “The disappearance of Georgiana Darcy”. I like your monthly agenda, I think I’ll make something like that for my blog, hope you don’t mind!

    1. Thank you, Loren! I’m so glad you like Agenda – it has become one of my favorite types of posts to do. I don’t mind at all! 🙂

      Thanks for voting! 🙂 TDL – 0 / TDGD – 2

  3. You have some lovely things lined up Meredith! I am particularly looking forward to seeing what you thought of Mansfield Park Revisited (the copy I have is called Mansfield Revisited, I don’t know why they are different). I am looking forward to Joana’s new book too. For your reader choice, I’ve not read any of Regina Jeffers’ books yet but I’ve read a Carrie Bebris and really enjoyed it, so I’d like you to read The Deception at Lyme.

    1. Thank you, Ceri! I should have the review out next week – which is so weird because I finished the book over two weeks ago! 🙂 I’m happy to have read that sequel – poor MP is so unpopular, but I quite like all the characters in that novel – even Mrs. Norris – she is the perfect character we love to hate!

      Thanks for voting! 🙂 TDL – 1 / TDGD – 2

  4. I am in awe of your October schedule. Can’t wait for your featured authors. So excited to see your reviews. Your website is the best. And you and Mr Bingley are the cutest couple!!

    1. Thank you, Michelle! It is a pretty fun schedule! I love to plan, and seeing what is ahead for each month always fills me with anticipation and excitement! I’m glad you don’t mind my blathering on about Mr. Bingley! <3 I know I go on a little!

  5. Yes, September for me was busy but enjoyable. Got back from Prince Edward Island and the Magdalen Islands at the end of Sept. What wonderful people and beaches and lots of lighthouses! I will be reading two of Jane Odiwe’s books this month (The Darcy Project and Searching for Captain Wentworth and Abigail Reynold’s Morning Light). I’m interested in this P&P card game you will be reviewing. Where did you get yours as on Amazon Canada it’s $66!! As for which of the two books, I would like your opinion on Regina Jeffers book The Disappearance of Georgiana Darcy. I have read it and found it very intriguing and well written. But then there hasn’t been a book I haven’t loved by her!!! I have Carrie’s book in my to be read pile too, but I want to get her Northanger one first before reading the one above. Looking forward to Joana’s book so I will have to put that one on my wishlist. I recently put Alexa’s book on my wishlist too! Maria’s book is already on my wishlist. So many books, so little time!!!

    1. Sounds like you had such a fantastic time, Carole! I love beach scenery – and with all those lighthouses and bodies of water I’m sure you saw some beautiful vistas! You have some great reads lined up – Morning Light will probably be very appropriate following your recent trip since it takes place near the shore and has a lot about artwork. 🙂

That is a high price for the card game! The price for amazon here is $30 – which given that it is a specialty game seems a fair price.

There is indeed so many books! I wish there was more than 24 hours in day!

      Thanks for voting! 🙂 TDL – 1 / TDGD – 3

  6. So sorry to hear about the trolling. You will probably enjoy I Capture the Castle a good deal–I cringed with shared embarrassment at our heroine’s more self-revealing moments! Speaking of reviewing mysteries, I’m told there’s a new Stephanie Barron “Jane and…” mystery coming out this month–a long-awaited event!

    1. I love seeing characters go through a transformation or become more self-aware. Looking forward to reading a book that I’ve heard so many good things about! Yes, the new mystery is holiday themed! That sounds like a lot of fun! 🙂

  7. Hi Meredith! Happy beautiful Autumn!
Oh, I´ve seen you´ve bought “I capture the castle”. I haven´t seen the movie yet, but I read the book last year and it´s charming, I really enjoyed it because it´s different from others I´ve read, maybe it could be because of her heroine, she has a delightful sense of humour and you´ll have a beautiful reading in your hands!.
Speaking of the mystery books to vote, I choose “The Deception at Lyme”… is it connected with “Persuasion”?, I say that for the name of “Lyme”, I remember it was a city which appeared in “Persuasion”…
The October agenda is very promising 🙂
    Hugs!

    1. Thank you, Teresa! I’m super excited about I Capture the Castle – hopefully will be able to read it soon. I like heroines with a sense of humor… 🙂

Yep, that one is connected to Persuasion, Mr. and Mrs. Darcy will probably meet Captain and Mrs. Wentworth!

      Thanks for voting! 🙂 TDL – 2 / TDGD – 3

  8. I’m glad you got past your computer wows and settled into the new school year. Looks like you have some good stuff up for review this month. I’ve seen that game before and it looked fun.

I’ve read both Carrie Bebris and Regina Jeffers so either would be good. I’ll say Deception at Lyme for my vote.

    1. Thank you, Sophia Rose! This week is going a million times better than last week! The game was a lot of fun, can’t wait to share my review with you all tomorrow!

      Thanks for voting! 🙂 TDL – 3 / TDGD – 3

  9. So sorry to hear about your gremlins, Meredith! Bit at least they’ve gone now, and Happy October!
That card game sounds fantastic! I love the design, it looks fun and cheeky and the sort of thing we all need at an ‘Austen Sleep-over’. Great to hear that Vol III of Stan Hurd’s trilogy is on the October menu. I’m so pleased it’s out at last. Carole’s right, so many great books, so little time! Can’t help with the vote I’m afraid, they both sound so tempting! Can’t you read them both? 😀

    1. Yes, things are back to normal – which is great because I have a busy month with special guests! 😉 The game would be so much fun to play with Austen friends! I played it with my family, which was also a fun experience! I wish I could read both, but there is sooo little time! 😉

  10. I’d vote for a feview on Deception at Lyme. I’ve kind of enjoyed Carrie Bebris’ other books in the series, but have yet to read that. And I really enjoyed the Disapperance of Georgiana Darcy. Thanks.

    1. The last time I’ve read a book by Carrie Bebris is was 2010 – The Intrigue at Highbury (which I loved!) I think the series is awesome! This is the only one I haven’t read.

      Thanks for voting! 🙂 TDL – 4 / TDGD – 3

  11. So excited to see the 3rd book of Darcy’s Tale is out! I couldn’t bring myself to start the series as waiting for the last book would be torturous. Now I will read them all in a row! Can’t wait to see your review : )

    1. I’m so glad the wait for Book 3 wasn’t too long! 🙂 It would have been awful to wait a full year or something. I hope you enjoy reading all three of them – such a great series, he definitely does Darcy justice!

  12. I vote for The Deception at Lyme. I’m a big Carrie Bebris fan. She has a new book in the series coming out early next week. Very excited! Like Abigail I’m also excited about Stephanie Baron’s new Jane mystery coming out this month. :o)

    1. If it were only next week! 😉 LOL! You got me all excited, Melissa! Love Jane Austen and mystery – such a wonderful combination!

      Thanks for voting! 🙂 TDL – 5 / TDGD – 3

  13. Hi Meredith, I vote for The Disappearance of Georgiana Darcy, because I’ve read and enjoyed it. Since there’s a castle and a mystery, I think it’s a good Halloween review.
I’m glad that you’re reviewing Volume 3 of Darcy’s Tale. It was difficult to wait for the 3rd book, and I’m anxious to hear what you think of it.
It sounds like a busy month for you. It’s my favorite time of the year. I like the fall colors and settling back into a routine.
PS–Mr & Mrs Bingley, you are sooo cute!!

    1. Ooh! A castle sounds like a perfect setting! I love fall too! I think I love every season except winter though! Looking forward to still enjoying some warm days outside, but not feeling that humidity!

      Thanks for voting! 🙂 TDL – 5 / TDGD – 4

  14. Happy October. Autumn in North Carolina looks a lot different from autumn in New York. There was no beach visitng and we’ve pulled out our boots and sweaters. I’ll be reading Dying to Write with the Heat turned on.

You had some great finds at that book sale … I never get that lucky 🙂

I’m looking forward to your review of the Marrying Mr Darcy game. Seeing things like that make me wish that I had more Janeite friends nearby. It’s hard to play games like that over the Internet.

I like Carrie Bebris’ mysteries, so in the hopes of getting more people to read them, I vote for Deception at Lyme.

    1. LOL! Yes, I know for a fact it is. While some North Carolinians will eagerly swap their flip-flops for boots immediately after September 22, I usually wait until the temperatures drop below 60. 😉

It was starting to look a little like I wasn’t going to find anything…but I usually do walk away with something and was glad that I lucked out with 3 finds this time!

I didn’t play the game with Janeite friends…you will see who I coerced to play tomorrow. It is a great game that can be played with friends who don’t know anything about Jane Austen and Mr. Darcy.

      Thanks for voting! 🙂 TDL – 6 / TDGD – 4

  15. I received the game from my son-in-law last Christmas and he and I played it. I really do need more local people to enjoy that game thoroughly…as Heather says! I would vote for the Lyme book, only as I am not familiar with that author and want to hear what you say about her book. I do have many of Regina’s and eventually will have all of hers as I do enjoy her books. I like that her books are nice and long…for me, better than novella’s which I finish off so quickly. Have read the books you list to “read and review” and finished Stanley Hurd’s Vol. 3 as soon as it was released. Have not read Mansfield Park Revisited, but that is one that some day I will get to as I do like that author. As has been said, “So many good books and not enough time!” I Capture the Castle sounds intriguing. I will have to check it out on Amazon. Nice find.

    1. My copy came in April and I think that is when the game became available on amazon. I wonder how your son-in-law got one earlier. Maybe he chose the prototype option during the Kickstarter campaign? What an excellent present for you though, he knew what he was doing! 🙂

You have some fun in store for you, Sheila! The Carrie Bebris series is wonderful! The first two books are a little weaker (in my opinion) than books 3, 4, and 5. But they all are very well done. Love seeing Mr. and Mrs. Darcy interact with other characters from other Jane Austen novels!

      Thanks for voting! 🙂 TDL – 7 / TDGD – 4

      1. My son-in-law is big into games, having co-created a game, Dwarven Dig!, which was listed in the top 50 at one time. He contributed to Kickstarter and got in on the Marrying Mr. Darcy game it because he knew my love of all things Jane Austen. My daughter is an artist for online game/video game creatures, etc. So they have a lot in common. They used to play Dungeons and Dragons every Wednesday evening at a game store in Seattle.

  16. On Monday evening, we were travelling back from holiday and I used the ferry’s wi-fi to post a comment to this blog entry, Meredith. I just checked back on it now, as I hadn’t had any emails telling me about follow-up comments. My comment has disappeared into who knows where in cyberspace!! Not your fault, I know, probably a dodgy wi-fi connection on the ferry. Grrrrrr!!!

Anyway, if it’s not too late, can I also vote for TDL? Anything with a Persuasion connection works for me, cos it’s my second fabourite Austen novel.

Your Agendas always leave me in awe as to what and how you manage to get through it all. I have trouble just keeping up with reading (books and blogs), and posting the odd comment here and there. I wish I had more time to devote to reviewing what I’ve listened to and read.

I AM still working on my submission to your Ardent Admirers section, if you’re still open for them. Just life etc getting in the way (again!).

Looking forward to your reviews, as always. I’ve read some of them; Stanley Hurd’s (all three) and Remember the Past. Jane Austen’s First Love is in my TBR collection on my Kindle and I’ve read the first volume of Robin Helm’s series.

Alexa’s new book sounds most intriguing, so her visit should be interesting and I await Joana’s new book with eager anticipation as well.

    1. Hi Anji! So sorry the comment vanished! I hate when that happens! Thank you for coming by and leaving another! 🙂 Hope you had a lovely trip this past weekend!

I try to get everything done in my agenda, that doesn’t always happen though! As you might notice one book I’m reviewing this month, was supposed to be reviewed last month. While I did read it last month, just didn’t get the review up (working on it right now actually!) But all the same, I like to have an organized plan of what is ahead, it helps with getting things done a little I think. 🙂

Absolutely we are still open for more Ardent Admirers! I keep meaning to send an email out about that. 🙂 I have spots open in November and December. 🙂

      Thanks for voting! 🙂 TDL – 8 / TDGD – 4

  17. I’m going to vote for Deception at Lyme because I’ve read the other option and I always look forward to your insight on books I have not read. You help me along. =D

    1. Sorry about all the “do not enter site” stuff! Glad it is over!

🙂 Glad I can help you decide on books you have not read! Always happy to hear my reviews are helpful!

      Thanks for voting! 🙂 TDL – 9 / TDGD – 4
