from Goodreads.com:

All Lilly Price has ever known is living in the shadow of her widely successful foster family. But when a twist of fate deals Lilly the hand of Harrison Crawford, the most popular guy in Bloomfield, NM, everything flips upside down.

Sean Benally is a hard worker, he’s funny, he’s generous, and he’s kind. He’s also the most amazing guy Lilly has ever known. And she’s totally fallen in love with him. But he’s her foster brother…

Now she must choose between the unavailable love of her life—or the guy who promises to be available forever.

MY THOUGHTS:

  • What perfect timing! 2014 marks the 200th anniversary of Mansfield Park!
  • I’m so glad Jenni James is continuing this series!  This is book 5!
  • I wonder if we will see any familiar characters from the other novels in this series?  I loved how some characters from each novel were making cameos in the other novels.
  • Looking forward to the love triangle!  I wonder if there will be a Mary Crawford who catches Sean’s eye!
  • I think having Lilly come from a foster family is a very fitting modernization of Fannny’s situation in Mansfield Park.
  • Hopefully this book will be out in paperback soon!  Eek!

WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS?

  1. Reading your summary reminded me at first (the first lines) of the story of Cinderella…The foster family element is very modern and I assume that there will be others elements following this trend. I haven’t read any of the novels by jenni James but reading that her modern JA world is connected by all the novels with appearances : it is wonderful having a familiar face in the novel

    1. It does sound a little like a Cinderella story! You are right, Mariam! Yes, I love how the characters from different novels intertwine in this series (i.e. Mr Collins in P&P and Captain Benwick from Persuasion were represented by the same character in this novel!)

  2. I haven’t read any of this series so far, but they look good. I read a modern version of Mansfield Park a few months ago and I was pleasantly surprised at how well it modernised, hopefully this one is just as good 🙂

    1. It is a very fun series, Ceri! 🙂 I’ve read 3 books, Pride and Popularity is by far my favorite! Looking forward to reading the rest! I love that there are more modern versions of Mansfield Park published, I feel as if it is the most neglected of Jane Austen’s novels in the Austenesque world.

  3. I have this series on my wish list, but haven’t tried any yet. I haven’t seen many Mansfield Park retellings or what-ifs so I look forward to this one. Thanks for sharing!
