Austenesque Agenda for July 2013

Austenesque Agenda

What an eventful and busy summer it has been so far!

In June we planned and hosted our first Austenesque Group Read – which was so much fun!

July started off with the unveiling of my new blog home – I hope everything is running smoothly for everyone!

and…August is when Mr. Bingley and I go on vacation!

Where are we going?  SEATTLE!!!

seattle-queen-anne_2487_600x450

Mr. Bingley wants to attend a convention the weekend of August 30th and we thought it would be fun to make a little vacay out of it, since Seattle is a place we both have never been before!  I know – from Facebook and many packages that I’ve mailed out to giveaway winners – that there are quite a few readers and authors who live in or near Seattle…and I’d love to see and officially “meet” some of you if I can!

While Mr. Bingley attends his convention Saturday, August 31st and Sunday, September 1st, I will be left  all alone with quite a bit of time on my hands!  If you live close enough and fancy getting together, let me know!  I’m not sure how mobile I will be, but I’d be happy to see what we can work out!  Maybe we could grab lunch, a cup of coffee, or meet at a park!

*Also if any of you Washingtonians have any suggestions of great things to do and see in Seattle, please do share!

Let’s talk about some books now!

  1. Oh I just love Seattle! We went there on our honeymoon. I’m sure there are plenty of locals who will comment about all the great things to see and do, so I’ll leave it to them. I would go back in a heartbeat.

I plan on getting ahold of Kara Louise’s Pirates and Prejudice, plus whatever else you give 4 or 4 stars to 🙂

    1. Awesome! So happy to hear you love Seattle, Heather! I’m excited to be travelling to a new place!

I hope you enjoy Pirates and Prejudice as much as I did! 😀

  2. Seattle sounds wonderful! Have fun! I hope you get the chance to meet many Austenesque Readers :).
My travelling plans are more the daytrip-kinds. A lake trip with my sister and her boyfriend to the area he grew up in. And visiting some friends in August maybe.

At the moment I´m reading Cass Graftons Vol.I, moving on the Vol.II soon. Need to order the 3rd, so I can continue and finish the A Fair Prospect-Series in one go 🙂

    1. Hello Katrin! Yes I’m very excited about the prospect of meeting some online friends in person! I hope it happens!

Those trips sound lovely! I hope you have a great time with your sister and friends!

Can’t wait to hear what you think of the A Fair Prospect series! I think it sounds wonderful!

  3. I live in Seattle and would love see you while you are here! It would be nice to meet up with others who live near by. I will only be free on Sunday so if that works for you we can plan something closer to the time of your visit when you know where you will be staying and what your other plans are. Depending on how long you are here and what your transportation is I will try and come up with some ideas for places to visit. While we so much to do, a lot can depend on if you have a car as our mass transit is limited. I hope you have a wonderful visit and that our weather holds up for you!!!

Heather- I am reading Pirates and Prejudice now and enjoying it!

    1. You do? Awesome! It would be lovely to meet you! I will find out more details about our trip from Mr. Bingley and get back to you. I do know we will be flying in Wed. and leaving Mon. I look forward to chatting with you some more about Seattle and what there is to do there!

Glad to hear you are enjoying Pirates and Prejudice!

  4. I’d think that Seattle would have great public transportation. It’s probably better than what we have in Toledo and I take the bus. Never been further west than Indianapolis. Someday I’d like to go to Chicago.

The Kara Louise book sounds good. I read one of her books before and really enjoyed it. I can’t really see what I’m typing because it’s displayed in a light gray. Bad change.

I’ve been reading mysteries and a little in Rainy Days by Lory Lilian. The print is too small so I’m lucky if I can read ten pages a day in it! Someday I’ll finish it.

    1. That’s what I’m hoping for, Michelle! It would be great if it was easy to get around! I haven’t been around the western part of our country much at all!

Thank you for letting me know about the trouble seeing the comments! I’ll see what I can do to fix it!

      1. Michelle- our public transportation is good if you stay in the downtown area. If you have time and a car I would suggest beautiful day trips or hikes if that is something Meredith and Mr. Bingley would like. Even without a car there is lots to do including ferry rides to the San Juan islands or a day trip to Victoria BC

  5. Are you kidding me? You are finally going to be in our neck of the woods….wow! I’m shocked, amazed and dancing a happy dance….I live 45 minutes away. I could figure something out probably on Saturday. I try not to go to Seattle..crowds, and all that goes along with it you know..lol. I did however take a train up there a couple months ago to prep for my fear of the unknown and going to Europe. A friend and I had coffee and pastries at a little place by Pike’s Place market (which is busy but we went during the week) and we just walked around the area a little and sat at a park and watched the ferries etc. It was the most relaxing day out I’ve had. then we took the train back to Puyallup. As Joy said if you have a few more details we could touch base. I don’t think we’ll be gone. Usually around then I go to Idaho to see my other kids but no plans yet.

    1. YES! Suzan! I was already thinking of you m’ dear when I was writing this post! I would so dearly love to meet you! The outing you and your friend had sounds lovely! I’m wide open all day Saturday and Sunday and as soon as I know where we are staying I’ll shoot you an email. Hopefully it is a place that is easy to get to! Very excited!

      1. Joy is correct. There is alot to do. The ferries are alot of fun. The San Juan Islands and Victoria B.C. is great. (of course you have to have your passport for the border) It is a very full and can be a kind of long day. Mt Rainier is relatively easy to get to and a great trip too. However, you would need a car for this. I am so excited about your visit and I can hardly wait to get your message.

I’m still finishing “My Dear Charlotte”, “Monarch of the Glen”, and I’m not sure what else. I’m currently trying to get my 2,000 Europe photos, documents, maps, postcards etc. in some sort of order.

        1. Good idea about bringing our passports! I’ll definitely remember to pack them! Did you go to Europe? That is a lot of stuff to sort through!

          1. Yes, we went to Latvia for a week and Germany for a week (total about 17 days). Both places were amazing. We’ve never gone to Europe before. Tours of ruins, castles, palaces, convention to attend, new friends to meet in person, Berlin Pergamon Museum and Neues. Local food, market places, you name it we saw it. concentration camp forgot that one – not on purpose. I brought home some maps to recall where I was when and some ticket stubs etc. We’ve only been home a week and a half so I’m done with the jetlag thankfully. We walked everywhere in Latvia, took our first S-Bahn in Germany, stairs, stairs stairs everywhere. I was so tired and with the 9-10 hr. time difference I kept falling asleep as soon as I wasn’t moving while there…lol I loved every second of it….except perhaps the pay toilets.

  6. I’ve never been to Seattle either, but maybe someday… just to see the sights & saw I’ve been there! LOL I’ll be heading out on my vacation (it’s been 3 years since I’ve been on one!!) to Hilton Head Island, SC in 6 weeks and give or take a day or two. I am SO READY to get on that plane & dig my toes in the sand, soak up some sun & partake in many frozen concoctions!! 😉 LOL As for which books I’m planning on reading?? Honestly, I have so many on my to-read list, I have no idea which I’m reading first. I’ll probably just go with whatever fancies me at the time & go from there 🙂

    1. So happy that you are going on such a lovely vacation, Valerie! I’ve never been to Hilton Head, but I’ve heard it is beautiful! Sand, sun, and refreshing beverages sound heavenly – all you need to add is a book in your hand! I hope you have a marvelous time! 😀

  7. Hi Meredith;) I was on vacation last week, travelling around the French Bretagne and I returned and discovered you’ve moved!!!! CONGRATULATIONS!!! I had a “safe journey” around the blogsphere LOL! .
I’ve never been to Seattle but, if I’m not mistaken, isn’t Seattle the place where the saga “Twilight” was filmed in? Maybe Mr.Bingley and you will be able to visit the locations of the movies (the landscapes were beautiful!) And, who knows, maybe you’ll meet the Cullen Family, LOL!
    Teresa.:)

    1. Hello Teresa! I’m so glad you were able to find me! 🙂 It sounds like you enjoyed a lovely vacation! I’m sure there was a lot to see and do!

We are excited about visiting a new city! I actually haven’t read or seen any of the Twilight saga (*gasp*) but I do love beautiful scenery! Both Mr. Bingley and I love to take pictures – hopefully we will bring home some memorable ones from this trip! 🙂

  8. Twilight (I don’t read or watch either) is filmed around Forks, Which is on the Olympic Peninsula, there is some beautiful scenery there (due to the Hoh Rain Forest etc being over there as well as Hurricane ridge). It does take 2-3 hours I believe from Seattle.

  9. Hi I’m new so glad I found this blog through the austen admirers app I love P&P and came across the bicentennary challenge on austenprose in March. I have never read JAFF before and am now an addict & on book 21. After begging my sister in law to read P&P she is now an addict too and following my JAFF list. We are going to Chatsworth house on the 1st Aug to watch a theatre production of P&P, the following day we are going to explore Chatsworth house and finish with watching the 2005 version as it is filmed there. I have just finished MDNC upset I missed your read, got reviews to catch up on then will read Mr Darcy’s refuge. Sorry for the essay just happy to find this blog and confirm my addiction is not singular.

    1. Hello and welcome, Tamara! You are most certainly in good company here with your addiction! That is awesome that you’ve read so many JAFF novels in such a short span of time! And your trip in August sounds like such a fantastic experience! Have a lovely time!

Please feel free to come share what you thought of MDNC with us, my review is finally going to be up here tomorrow! 🙂
