Austenesque Agenda – October 2024

Hi friends! I’m in such disbelief about it being October already. I feel like September was the fastest month of this year!

I think that might be because it was a very busy work month and I pushed to do a lot of fun things outside of work…

like going to the beach 🏝️

or taking a mini road trip to South Carolina 🚙

or going on a very random trip to Oklahoma City! 🌆

I feel like October is going to go just as fast! And I don’t want it to… I’m so glad I live in a world where there are Octobers. 🍁

How about you friends, was your September fast, was it fun-filled or work-filled? 😊

    1. Hi! Happened to see your comment, lol. I am waiting till the cover reveal on Oct 25 to open up the pre-order, it should be available for pre-order thst day or the next. Thanks!

  1. Your trips look like so much fun! Such an adorable companion too! September was my 50th wedding anniversary and I also went to the beach. However I live in Washington State so the beach was on the Olympic Peninsula so it was not very warm. We did some hiking on the beach and in the rainforest and it was lovely. We do have a trip planned this winter to visit New Zealand (where we will spend 3 weeks hiking) for a special anniversary treat. So this fall I can look forward to getting into shape for doing daily hikes. Hoping to see lots of pretty scenery here while I do that. But plenty of reading to do in between!

    1. Thank you! They are! Every time I go somewhere, I have a blast and I just want to keep going to more and more places!

And yes, Fezzik is the best travel companion. He loves the adventure as much as I do.

While you don’t have the beach, Washington state has its own stunning beauties! And New Zealand?! Wow! That is a bucket list place for sure! Hope you are enjoying a wonderful October!

  2. September? What did I do? Well for a start we had a lovely week with no rain (a rarity this summer) so I did three full days of washing while I could hang it out and get it dry!!!! It shows what an awful year we’ve had if that is memorable! I’m hoping for better weather in October? I see you went travelling as usual, many thanks for sharing your photos.

  3. September was fast.

Here’s a book you might want to consider adding to a list for a contemporary twist on EMMA:

THE MERRY MATCHMAKER by Sheila Roberts. Published Oct. 1, 2024

  4. Love seeing that you’ve gotten out and about. What a wonderful reading and visiting line-up you have for this month. I’m super curious about that older sequel to Mansfield Park.

    Have a lovely October, Meredith!

    1. Me too! I’m always happy to be exploring new places.

And yes, that is a bit of a change-up for this month isn’t it? But I’m participating a reading bingo challenge with Rita of From Pemberley to Milton and I need a book that was published last century!

  5. Hi Meredith,
What a busy month! Love your pics of your travels
My September was a busy 9ne too with both work and celebrations because some of my relatives (as me) were born in September so there were lot of birthday parties LOL
I like that you include in your October agenda some readings about Mansfield Park and Emma. And I’m curious about Brandon Dragan’s new book
    Happy October readings!

    1. By the way, my friend, when you say: “I’m so glad I live in a world where there are Octobers” , are you quoting Anne Shirley? It seems so Anne-ish!!

    2. Happy belated birthday to you Teresa! That sounds so fun! I hope you all enjoyed celebrating together!

Yes, I’m really happy with how much I’ve been able to diversify my Jane Austen novels this year.

Haha, yes! A direct quote from Anne – one of my favorites!

  6. I love your travel pictures.

I’m really interested to see what you think of Mansfield Letter, I have an unread copy of this book on my bookshelf!

    1. Oh! I would love to compare notes with you about it after each of us have read it! I know it won’t be one that many may be able to track down since it is now out-of-print.

  7. I don’t know what happened to Sept., and I am sounding like a broken record I know, but in this case I absolutely mean it…where did it go?

I’m very excited about this months agenda, all of it but pretty excited over the author visits for sure.

Your travel pictures from September were especially fascinating this month. Those ruins look so cool! I don’t have much beach experience, but some time in my life I’d love to see water that beautiful color coming at my feet. Woo!

    1. I feel the same way, Michelle! Time just goes faster and faster all the time!

I’m so glad you are excited about what’s coming to the blog this month!

I know, isn’t that water so beautiful?! It makes me want to stay all day!
