There are 7️⃣8️⃣ new Austenesque releases for the month of May! This may be a record! 🤯

An astonishing array of new reads!!

🦋 I’ve read 1️⃣ books from this list – The Late Mrs. Willoughby (MR. DARCY & MISS TILNEY MYSTERY) by Claudia Gray

🦋 I am excited to have A Folly of Youth: A Pride and Prejudice Variation by Amy D’Orazio in my TBR pile.

🦋 And I see several other books that catch my eye – especially some modern adaptations and books about characters from Northanger Abbey.

Which books are you eager to read from this list?

  1. Thanks for mentioning The Hunsford Curse, Meredith!

Always in awe at your ability to keep track of all the new Austenesque fiction!

  2. Thank you for compiling this list every month, Meredith.
I learned an important lesson a few months ago not to self-publish on the first day of the month in KDP. For some unknown reason, they automatically use the previous day as the Pub date. I pubbed on March 1st, but it got backdated to Feb 28th. It doesn’t appear in March releases and didn’t even exist in February.
    Lesson Learned!

  3. Nearly tempted by the Unexpected marriage of Mary Bennet – but I am so fed up with stories of her married to another vicar- she is totally unsuitable to be a vicar’s wife

  4. Incredible line up and I love that Brenda Webb’s audio book for “Taking Another Chance” is included. It’s an incredible read by Stevie Zimmerman. Thanks so much for another list!

  5. I don’t check out the audiobooks as I don’t have them but of the others I have only read two so far, Mark of Character and Think of Me. Loved them both. I have a few others in my list and will check the others out.
Thank you so much as always.

  6. I fear all the writers will have to slow down if I have any chance to keep up with all the new books. Thank you for including my first audio book TAKING ANOTHER CHANCE.

    1. Excellent news will get a copy asap
Love a good book with a drive or cleaning duty always makes time or chore more enjoyable.

  7. It’s a record for this year, but my records indicate that we had 83 books released back in June 2020, the all-time record. In any case, it’s a lot of new Austenesque books, and kudos to you for counting them each month, Meredith!

  8. I think I have only read three of these! Wow! Thanks for gathering all this information for us, Meredith.

  9. Wow! That’s a lot, certainly!! I am somehow reassured though that some of them are not yet released though, and they willmake the count for June, I suppose. I can’t help but notice the recrudescence of Midjounrey make covers… Changes a bit from the human models of other romance genres….

  10. Hi Meredith!
    Thanks for the monthly list!
Guess what? In your list, under the title “other languages” there’s the novel “Miss Austen” by Gill Hornby and last weekend during the Book Fair of Madrid (La Feria del Libro) I saw this novel and one of my friends bought it! It’s such a coincidence!. The book seller told my friend that, in a few months there will be another Gill Hornby book translated into spanish, one about Jane Austen’s brother. And I bought for me one of Julie Klassen’s: “Fairbourne Hall” that is translated into spanish too.
    Have fun this weekend! 😉

  11. So many new books–I already have a few of them on my Kindle 😉
What baffles me though are the covers. Many females look the same, and a couple of the men, too.
They are as if they are illustrated by the same graphic designer (even though I doubt it’s only human at work here.)

  12. Meredith, your lists are always appreciated. Thank you! I noticed quite a few covers that appear to be generated by artificial intelligence (AI). Personally, I find them creepy, but some may consider it another graphic art form. My question is, will AI created novels be identified as such?

    1. You’re right about the creepy feeling some AI covers evoke. I think it’s the dark backgrounds that make them feel as if belonging to a gothic story.

I’m an illustrator (not making covers though) and I can see how people may use AI for their covers as an easy solution. Or use it to edit their work. (Still, I wouldn’t.)

I’m also a writer and I believe storytelling starts from a need (the writer’s need to express oneself) as in every art form. I can’t imagine a machine needing to say something with no other means than art.
Then, the absolute worst is to imagine this situation as a reader.
It’d be really creepy to realize I’ve read something, I felt something written by a machine. It’d be the ultimate manipulation.
So, I believe it’s like Hemingway’s “Never send to know for whom the bell tolls; it tolls for thee.” It starts from the covers and we don’t know where it’ll finish.
