Austenesque Agenda – April 2021

Hi friends! Happy April!

I hope you are seeing some signs of Spring where you are. 🌷

I thought I’d take a break from pictures of hiking trails and sunsets and share pictures of something else today… 🌅

My puppy! 🐶

This little guy came into my life in January, and it is my first time being a pet-owner! 🐾

So far, it is going great! He is super cuddly and sweet, very smart, and just the goodest boy ever.

He “assists” with piano lessons. 🎹

And he seems to love being outside as much as I do. 🏖 🌳☀️

It might completely shock you, but I named him something unrelated to Jane Austen…
I named him…Fezzik. 💖

The two dogs that I occasionally dog-sit for (and who are completely responsible for convincing me to get a dog of my own 😍), are named Samson and Brutus. And I really love the malapropism of giving a tiny dog a giant name.

And so I followed suit, and named my tiny dog the name of my favorite gentle giant. The Princess Bride has long been one of my all-time favorite movies, and I adore everything about Fezzik’s sweet soul.

And the name fits perfectly…because this dude loves every single creature he encounters and just wants to greet everyone with an abundance of love. 💗

  1. Such a cute puppy and I love the name. Also love the lineup of books and authors this month (though seeing my own face was startling).

  2. You finally did it! Congratulations!!! He is absolutely adorable and I love the name! Maybe you might slip and call him ‘Fitzy’ LOL! Love your line-up and looking forward to all your visitors! Happy Spring…though we did have snow yesterday! Fortunately it is all gone now!!

    1. I did! It has been a longtime coming! Lol – he does get called “Fez” and “Fezzy” by my family so it is close.

Gracious! I hop e don’t get anymore! That is a no-no for April in my book!

  3. Hi Meredith!
Your puppy is so cute! He has sparkling eyes so I guess he can be kind of naughty when he wants!. I like the name “Fezzik ” and the story behind (I didn’t know it was the name of the giant of “Princess Bride”). It must be fun to have him accompanying you during the piano lessons.
Thanks for sharing your pics of “Fezzik” (he is so sweet wearing the yellow suit!) and I hope he will become friend with Samson and Brutus 😉
And, speaking of books, what a long list for April! I’m curious about “The secret life of Miss Mary Bennet” (love the cover with such a dark blue sky) and look forward to hearing your opinion of “Port and proposals” and “The unread letter”.
    Happy April!

    1. Hi Teresa! The main naughty thing he does is trying to eat a lot of things he shouldn’t – hopefully he will grow out of that!

Have you seen TPB? It is a classic!

Thanks, me too! I’m actually dog-sitting Samson and Brutus at the moment and they are all together as I write this!

I love the cover too! It has such an atmospheric sky! Hope you have a great month as well! I look forward to hearing your thoughts on these books!

  4. OMG! All those books and authors as well as looking after your new puppy AND piano lessons? You do know there are only 30 days in April?
It tired me out just reading the list but nonetheless I do look forward to your posts so good luck!

    1. LOL! I know!! It is a lot to juggle! I’m so far managing okay. Fezzik seems to take a lot of naps which help with getting the reading and the blogging in!

Thanks so much for always checking out my posts and sharing your lovely comments!

  5. I’m excited and nervous to learn that you will read/review “Mr. Darcy’s Perfect Match” this month, Meredith! I hope you enjoy it! More importantly, super congratulations on your adorable new family member Fezzik! From the pictures, it is clear that Fezzik is living the good life and has enriched yours as well! 🙂

  6. I’ve always been a huge TBP fan, so I love Fezzik as a name for a puppy! I also love the listing you have for reading and hosting this month. I’ve read two since publication and one when it was on the boards, but all are intriguing to me. Best of luck, Meredith!

    1. Oh yay!! It is such a special movie for me and my brother! I thought it was a cute name for a pup too! Almost went with Inigo, but I love Fezzik as a character more!

I’m so glad you love the books on this month’s agenda! They all look fantastic!

  7. I want to congratulate you on the dog! I am quite happy for you! Frankly I would rather name dogs with a mix of JA and other literary influences (like Gil, Peeta, Katniss, and Aragorn), so I really love this name!

  8. Love the photos and congratulations on your adoption of Fezzik. He is adorable. I also love that movie and have a DVD copy. I had to read on on that actor and sadly, he is no longer with us. I have read some of the stories you have lined up but I have to check out the one, as it is unknown to me. Stay safe.

I cannot seem to find For the Deepest Love by Mary Ann Mushatt.

    1. Thank you, Sheila! Glad to hear you are a fan! Yes it is very sad about Andre – everyone had so many great things to say about him.

Back in September my brother and I watched all the living actors do a live reading of the WHOLE movie and it was so incredible! To see people like Robin Wright, Wallace Shawn, Mandy Patikin, and Billy Crystal connecting on Zoom and reading their parts was quite special!

  9. I am so happy you have a new puppy. He looks adorable and I love your name choice. Princess Bride is my all time favorite movie. There is just something about it. That name is so appropriate. Blessings on you new little guy. Your month for April certainly looks full. Thanks for sharing your pictures with us. I always look at the masthead of the blog to see what is new. Stay safe and healthy.

    1. Thank you, Jeanne! I love hearing you are a fan of it! I chose the name long before I took him home and saw more of his personality, but it is a wonderful fit for so far.

Hopefully I will have some new beach pictures to share up there soon! Hope you are staying well!

  10. Congratulations on your puppy, Meredith!! He looks so cute and cuddly!!! The Princess Bride is such a classic movie. Cute name, Fezzik! I am so happy excited on Hunter Quinn’s book. I love that story as a Wip and an excited to read the end of this he story. The sun is shining and the weather is getting warmer, I am excited to be outdoors.

    1. Thank you, Shelley! He is super cuddly!

I’m so excited to learn more about Hunter Quinn and her debut release! How great that you already know about her book!

      Yay for being outdoors! ☀️

  11. Congratulations, Meredith, on your new little sweetie – what a wonderful addition to your family and life! I’m so happy for you, and hope you’ll keep sharing photos with your JAFF family!

    1. Thank you, Jean! It was such a big step/decision. I was nervous about it for quite some time. I’d be happy to (but I promise not to share too many!)

  12. Your little guy is so cute! I love animals (currently have two cats). When I’m out walking, I’m more likely to notice the dog than the human walking them. 🙂

It looks like you have a great line up for April!

    1. Aww! Same here! I am always tracking and greeting all the puppers! I love cats too – would have thought of getting one myself but I thought a dog fit into my lifestyle a little better – plus my parents have 2 cats and my brother has 3, so we might be good there!

  13. And he kind of has Fezzik’s hair, too. 😀 Wow what a lineup this month. Very exciting guests, and great reviews to look forward to.

  14. Oh, what an adorable puppy Fezzik is! And I love the name! The Princess Bride is a favorite movie in our family’s household, too. My daughter loves Fezzik’s rhymes! 🙂 Looks like you’re having great fun with your fuzzy new family member. Congrats! And the line up for this month looks, as always, amazing. Looking forward to your spotlights and reviews!

    1. Woot! You are raising your kids right! Lol.

I’m so glad you are excited for all that is in store here this month!! I always appreciate your visits and comments!

  15. Oh he’s sooooo cute!!! Amazing isn’t it, how such a small creature can take up so much room in your heart.
