Hurricane Dorian JAFF Fundraiser!

Hi my dear reader friends! As you might have seen, a massive hurricane came through the tropics and US this past week. And while it didn’t hit the eastern coast of the US as hard as expected (Mr. Bingley and I, and our home are all fine!), the Bahamas received the full brunt of Dorian’s force and destruction. 🌀

Returning to our home mid-Florence. We made it home just before the rivers crested and made travel in and out of our city impossible.

After a hurricane hits, there is so much work that needs to be done to restore and rebuild. People can’t get places due to fallen trees, downed power lines, high water. People’s homes (if they aren’t demolished) are sometimes inhabitable due to massive leaks, trees that broke through their roof, or flooding. Not to mention that meanwhile people could be living in situations where they don’t have power for weeks, don’t have running water, and because their home is flooded have mold growing… 😣

Even though I’ve witnessed at least a dozen hurricanes, last year with Florence was different. Our town was an island for three days, it took weeks for people to come home and regain power. And one of the things that helped everyone make it through was support, relief services, and the teams that came to town. Trucks came with supplies, workers came with tools, donations were collected and distributed everywhere. 🥰

These efforts are so needed and appreciated for those facing life after a natural disaster.

If you haven’t already, check out some ways you can support those effected by Hurricane Dorian by visiting this post on Austen Variations! The authors have put together some fun and clever ways for readers to support hurricane relief charities. 🙌🏼

Check out the rest of the list here!

My sincere thanks to the authors who helped establish this fundraiser, those who are participating,  and to all those who donated!

  1. Thanks for letting us know you and your Mr. Bingley are OK [hello Mr. Bingley]. I’ve bought several books when they posted before. I am so happy to help in my small way. There will be other opportunities to help so I’m trying to spread it out. Blessings, my dear and again, we are so glad you are safe.

  2. So glad to hear you both are well! Thank you to all the authors involved and all those who have contributed. Gave me the extra push to grab a few books I didn’t have!

  3. So glad you are both safe. This is a great way for those across the sea who have never witnessed a hurricane to help out those in trouble. Keep on keeping safe!!!!
