Hi my dear reader friends! As you might have seen, a massive hurricane came through the tropics and US this past week. And while it didn’t hit the eastern coast of the US as hard as expected (Mr. Bingley and I, and our home are all fine!), the Bahamas received the full brunt of Dorian’s force and destruction. 🌀
After a hurricane hits, there is so much work that needs to be done to restore and rebuild. People can’t get places due to fallen trees, downed power lines, high water. People’s homes (if they aren’t demolished) are sometimes inhabitable due to massive leaks, trees that broke through their roof, or flooding. Not to mention that meanwhile people could be living in situations where they don’t have power for weeks, don’t have running water, and because their home is flooded have mold growing… 😣
Even though I’ve witnessed at least a dozen hurricanes, last year with Florence was different. Our town was an island for three days, it took weeks for people to come home and regain power. And one of the things that helped everyone make it through was support, relief services, and the teams that came to town. Trucks came with supplies, workers came with tools, donations were collected and distributed everywhere. 🥰
These efforts are so needed and appreciated for those facing life after a natural disaster.
If you haven’t already, check out some ways you can support those effected by Hurricane Dorian by visiting this post on Austen Variations! The authors have put together some fun and clever ways for readers to support hurricane relief charities. 🙌🏼
- You can purchase a cameo appearance from the author of your choice. I’ve done this before and it is always neat to see your own name appear as a character in a story!
- If you are a writer, you can donate an amount of your choosing and have an experienced author critique pages for you!
- You can check out the September Storm Relay Story that a team of AV authors is putting together…a new scene will be released after each donation goal is met. So far, thy are up to 5 scenes!
- You can buy these books and audiobooks and the royalties will be donated (until Sept 9) to hurricane relief charities. Treat yourself to something on your wishlist while helping others! Some of these books include:

My sincere thanks to the authors who helped establish this fundraiser, those who are participating, and to all those who donated!
Thank you for sharing your experiences, Meredith! We are all so glad you and Mr. Bingley are safe, and we hope those affected by Dorian will have the help they need quickly.
Thank you for all your efforts, they help those in need tremendously!
Thanks for letting us know you and your Mr. Bingley are OK [hello Mr. Bingley]. I’ve bought several books when they posted before. I am so happy to help in my small way. There will be other opportunities to help so I’m trying to spread it out. Blessings, my dear and again, we are so glad you are safe.
That is wonderful, Jeanne! Thank you for supporting our dear authors in this effort!
Glad to hear things went well for you!

Yes, we were quite relieved it wasn’t like last year!
Glad you and yours are okay, Meredith! Neat of the authors to mobilize a relief contribution.
Thank you, my friend! Yes, it is wonderful what they are doing and all who became involved!
So glad to hear you both are well! Thank you to all the authors involved and all those who have contributed. Gave me the extra push to grab a few books I didn’t have!
Yay! Such a win-win situation! 😉
So glad you are both safe. This is a great way for those across the sea who have never witnessed a hurricane to help out those in trouble. Keep on keeping safe!!!!
I so agree! It is always inspiring to see people from near and far do something so kind for others!
Thanks for sharing Meredith and for highlighting the fund raiser!
My pleasure, Jennifer! 🙂
Yes, glad to hear you are safe. I have been following those September Storm parts as they are added when donations reach certain levels. It is so generous of those authors!
It is!! And what creative and fun ways to get readers involved!
So glad that you guys are safe and that your area wasn’t hit as hard as was expected!! Take care and stay dry!!
Warmly,

Thank you, Susanne! We are all feeling relieved!
So glad you’re fine and your town came through well, especially after Wilmington paid its dues, and then some, in Florence! Thanks for sharing the word about the fundraiser.
My pleasure, Abigail! I am happy to help in any way! Thank you for all you and the other authors are doing in this marvelous effort!
