Happy June, friends! Did you have a lovely May? For me, it was lovely, because I’ve been taking myself to the beach more! Yay for warm weather!
We’ve also went on a lovely trip to Savannah for 2 days. Mr. Bingley had a wedding to play for there, and of course, I tagged along! We thought it would be great to visit Savannah since neither of us had been there before and everyone says it is one of the most charming cities in the south!
We definitely agree with them! I adored the squares so much, I would go there to read everyday if I lived there!
And I absolutely loved the oak tress and Spanish moss at the Wormsloe Historic Site.
Other than that, we’ve been starting to look for ways to keep ourselves a little more active (for both our jobs we sit a lot), and we aren’t fond of gyms or exercising! :/ Now that the weather is nice we are trying to walk/hike a bit more, and early in the month I had the great idea to go to this newly opened ropes course near us! We loved it, but were sore for days!! LOL!

Thank you, Sheila! I Capture the Castle is not JAFF, it is about a seventeen year old girl and her family in the 1930’s. They are poor and live in an old castle. The main character is a writer and chronicles what happens with her family, especially her sister, Rose, who is 21 and eager to marry. I wrote a quick review on Goodreads, but I’m won’t be sharing it here. There is a movie for it too, which I saw before reading the book.
I have been to Savannah too! Back in June of 1994 (it doesn’t seem that long ago!), my family and I went on a road trip through the southeast – stopping at the Outer Banks, Charleston, Savannah, Atlanta, and other places. Saw so many places I’d only read about! It was so hot, and it was only June! Don’t know how the residents stand it! My favorite historic place was Fort Sumter, which I’d studied in my history classes. We also took in severald Civil War battlefields, which I’d also studied. Just the first of many road trips that I drove with my family! You’ve brought back some good memories!
Oh lovely, Denise! I’m trying to get to all those places myself. Outer Banks is still on our list! 🙂 Oh yes, June is very hot and often humid! We were sweating a good deal in Savannah, lucky for us there is a lot of shade! Aw! Thanks for sharing, I love hearing about travels! 🙂 And I’m glad it brought back such lovely memories!

I seriously adore your pictures, Meredith. I can’t enlarge the photos, and my wee old eyes cannot detect some finer detail. I can look up the places you visited, but I cannot tell what the dickens Mr. Bingley is wearing on his cute head!!
I really liked the movie version of ‘I Capture The Castle,’ what a damaged, quirky, struggling, and yet oddly close-knit and supportive family. I liked it enough to find the book (ooo so many years ago, I’ve forgotten some details.) Hard to realize that movie came out in 2004. I’ve loved watching Romola Garai’s career ever since.

That has been the cause of comment for a lot of people! 🙂 The helmet had a “Savannah” theme to it – a bunch of mini cups because Savannah “open container” laws. Meaning you can walk around town with an opened alcoholic beverage. Mr. Bingley just picked the helmet because he thought it looked fun! I almost went with the pirate helmet, but I thought the dreads would make me too hot!
Like you I saw the movie before reading the book and I’m not sure if it skewed things for me because I think I liked the movie better. At least where Rose is concerned, the portrayal does not feel as sympathetic in the book.

You have another busy month coming up and I really look forward to your interviews and thoughts on your featured books. I have read Elizabeth’s and Linda’s books and really enjoyed them.
I’m looking forward to next week when my daughter, her husband and their two little boys arrive from Australia for a holiday. I haven’t seen them for two years as they couldn’t come last year so I’m very excited.

Thank you Michelle. My daughter used to come every year but they now have to buy 4 seats and she works part time as her boys are only just five and nearly three. Unfortunately I can’t fly so no chance of me going all that way (although her youngest did say I could go by jet ski 🙂 – but my daughter said with my sense of direction there’s no knowing where I’d end up!)

It was an amazing course, I especially loved that it was in such a natural setting, deep into the forest with trees giving you shade. I’ve seen other ropes courses be next to a busy road or grocery store and that kind of gives you a different ambiance!

It is very lovely, Ann! What everyone says about it is true! The ropes course started out easier and got harder as we went. We didn’t make it all the way to the end because we are not very athletic!

Your trip looked wonderful! I was in Savannah back in 1988 for a wedding on St. Simon’s Island. We took a tour around Savannah and loved it! Actually the whole trip down there was wonderful! You certainly have a fabulous line-up of books and authors visiting! I’m looking forward to so many of them!
