Austenesque Agenda – June 2016

AA

Hi friends!

Thanks for popping in for a visit!  I can’t believe how fast May went!  It felt like a very busy month – busy working, busy gigging (Mr. Bingley), and busy reading (me!)

We’ve had fun times with friends going to see Captain America Civil War, The Jungle Book, and X-Men: Apocalypse.  Sadly we can’t go see Love and Friendship since it isn’t playing at a theatre near me (closest one is 2 and a half hours away) 🙁  But I’m real glad to hear all the praise it is receiving from those of you who were lucky enough to have already seen it!

We also had our first escape room experience in Myrtle Beach, we tried two different rooms – one in a zombie apocalypse theme and one in a movie theatre theme. (so far our record is 2 for 2!)  It was so much fun!  I loved solving puzzles, felt like Nancy Drew or Sherlock Holmes! 😉  Am definitely looking forward to doing this again!

And now that it is officially summer weather I’ve taken my reading outside!  My poor Netherfield Nook was neglected this month as like Lizzy, I can’t be kept inside!  Especially when the sun is shining and the sky is soooo blue!  In fact, as soon as I finish this post I’ll be taking myself outside to read in my hammock!  😉

  1. Hello Meredith, the weather on the East Coast of the UK has not been very good at all. It is still freezing cold. I am off to Derbyshire 3 weeks today so can’t wait as it is one of my favourite all times places. Went to Sudbury Hall last year (where they filmed inside of Pemberley for 1995) and this year going to visit Kedleston Hall where they filmed The Duchess.

Looking forward to the interview with Jenetta James and can’t wait to read The Elizabeth Papers and also your review of Brenda Webb’s new book. I choose A Match for Mary Bennet. Have a lovely weekend and thank you for a wonderful agenda for the month of June!

    1. Ooh! Freezing cold in June does not sound pleasant at all! Good thing you are traveling! Can’t wait to hear about all the great place you visit! I bet these estates are just amazing to see in person! Wishing you a wonderful month! 🙂

      Thanks for voting! 🙂 Match – 1 / Forgotten – 0 / Pursuit – 0

  2. Hi Meredith, the weather here in Southern Ireland has been absolutely fabulous for the last eight or nine days. Believe it or not the amount of days is a big deal because it must be nearly a year since we’ve had any decent weather. Ooh I’m looking forward to your review of ‘Persuasion Captain Wentworth and Cracklin’ Cornbread’. I’m always trying to get variations of Persuasion but they’re quite rare.
I’d like to pick The Forgotten Sister for your read. It sounds kinda forlorn.

    1. That’s awesome, Teresa! I’m so glad the weather has been nice! Especially since you bene deprived of good weather for so long!

I know what you mean about Persuasion retellings! I’ve been reading a lot of P&P books lately so I thought it would be smart to mix it up a little! 😉

      Thanks for voting! 🙂 Match – 1 / Forgotten – 1 / Pursuit – 0

  3. I want to see the three movies you mentioned but lack for company so I just may wait to view them on TV. I vote for The Forgotten Sister due to the cover. And great, absolutely great, interviews lined up. Looking forward to them. Enjoy your beach reads.

    1. Thank you, my friend! I hope you get the chance to see some of these movies! We were very happy with all 3. I hope you and your family are doing well!

      Thanks for voting! 🙂 Match – 1 / Forgotten – 2 / Pursuit – 0

  4. Yes, May went by very quickly! All the movies you saw sound amazing. I may wait to rent them on DVD. However, just found out yesterday that ‘Love and Friendship’ is coming to our tiny Regent Theatre this month so I’ll be in line to see that! Loved all the books you read and looking forward to all your interviews! I actually read all 3 of the Mary books you have shown and it’s tough to decide which one you should read first as I enjoyed all of them all for different reasons. Since ‘A Match for Mary Bennet’ was the first Mary book I read, I will vote for that one! I honestly don’t think you could go wrong on any of them.

    1. Definitely recommend these movies as ones worth seeing! 😉 Mr. Bingley and I were real happy with them! How lucky you are that Love and Friendship is coming your way! Have fun going to see it! That’s awesome that you are 3 for 3 with these books about Mary, you must have a fondness for her! 😉 I’m glad to hear you enjoyed all 3!

      Thanks for voting! 🙂 Match – 2 / Forgotten – 2 / Pursuit – 0

  5. I’ve heard great things about the Pursuit of Mary Bennet. Hope you’re enjoying the hammock!

    1. Thank you! I am! Although yesterday I went out around 11:30 and it was sort’ve too hot for the hammock! Must try and get out earlier or much later now that summer is here!

      Thanks for voting! 🙂 Match – 2 / Forgotten – 2 / Pursuit – 1

  6. I see you are having a wonderful time and turning me green with envy!! In a good way. Keep enjoying the sun and the reading so we can do it through you! Thanks for sharing.

    1. Thank you, Jennifer! I really appreciate you reading my post! I am always happy to share what I am reading and hear what others have to say! Happy reading to you!

  7. Hi there Meredith! You have a good month lined up. I will be particularly interested to see what Monica Fairview is up to when she visits. As for the readers’ choice – we are really spoiled, I love Mary Bennet books. I actually have two of these, unread (blush), so I will choose one of those, the one by Eucharista Ward. Happy reading!

    1. Thanks for dropping in Ceri! You have quite a busy month too! Looking forward to seeing your reviews! 🙂 I love that author’s are giving Mary some well-deserved attention! I’ve read several books about her already, looking forward to reading these 3!

      Thanks for voting! 🙂 Match – 3 / Forgotten – 2 / Pursuit – 1

  8. Yay for the movies and friends nights. Those are always fun. 🙂 Sorry you’re missing L&F. I think a lot of us will be catching it on DVD or stream.

Nice line up of guests and books for the month.

Oh yes, there is something about Mary. I’ll say The Forgotten Sister.

    Happy June!

    1. We love going to movies! And the summer movie line-up is always exciting! I’m sure I’ll be getting Love and Friendship on DVD too. 🙂 Which will be fun! I appreciate you popping in for a visit!

      Thanks for voting! 🙂 Match – 3 / Forgotten – 3 / Pursuit – 1

  9. You were in Myrtle Beach and you didn’t message me???? That’s my home turf now, Meredith! Which beach were you hanging at? I’m in PA now visiting friends and, very happily, planning to get out to see Love & Friendship next week. (Not playing anywhere in MB, as you discovered.)

Nice group of books on your list for June. Looking forward to reading your reviews!

    1. Oh Debbie! I had no idea you lived so close! We are just an hour and a half away from MB in Wilmington, NC! 🙂 We will have to hang out together some time! I hope you are enjoying your visits with friends and seeing Love and Friendship!

  10. Hi Meredith!
It’s so entertaining going to the cinema with friends! And eating popcorns! 🙂
You’re so lucky for reading outside, by the sea!. It’s a total different way of reading!. In Madrid the weather has been driving me crazy with rain, sun, cold days, hot days!. Today I’ve gone to the Book Fair in the Retiro Park: every year by this time a lot of bookshops set a stand to sell books and there’re authors signing their works. It’s a fun and exciting experience, you would like it! 😉
I’m glad you choose to read about Mary! Bravo! And well, I vote for “The forgotten sister”. Happy June!

    1. Mmmhmm! When we do movie viewings at home we like to go all out with snacks and sweets! There has been a bit of rain here too, but in the summer it never stays for long. My philosophy is to seize the good weather whenever you can, because it can change in 30 minutes! I hope you had fun at the Book Fair! What a paradise! How great would it be to be surrounded by books, authors, and book lovers!

      Thanks for voting! 🙂 Match – 3 / Forgotten – 4 / Pursuit – 1

  11. What a fun time you had! Lovely to hear that, and the puzzle themes sound fantastic. Great reads and great posts coming up and I’m super-excited! Have a wonderful June!

    1. Thank you, Joana! It was a lot of fun to work as a team and solve puzzles together, everyone has different strengths. 😉 I hope you enjoy a beautiful and fun month!
