Austenesque Agenda – December 2015

AA

Hi readers!  Sorry this monthly update is so brief…but Netherfield has been finished at last!!!!  If all goes well Mr. Bingley and I will sign the papers next week and then move in!

With the busyness of packing, house meetings, and buying some new items (bar stools, bookshelveswasher and dryer!), I’m afraid blogging and reading are pushed aside momentarily. :/

This past month was crazy and exciting, the house made a lot of progress in such a short amount of time!  Here are some of our recent photos!

Each December I’ve made it a habit to read a Jane Austen novel with annotations.  In 2013 it was Pride and Prejudice (Harvard University Press) and in 2014 it was Persuasion (Shapard).  I quite love this tradition and plan to continue it many years into the future, until I’ve read them all…and then I will reread them again!  Nothing could be better than spending extra time with Jane Austen and her characters over my holiday break!  This year I’m reading Emma and I decided to try another Harvard University Press edition.  I enjoyed the annotations by Patricia Meyer Spacks, I hope it will be the same for Bharat Tandon!

  1. Ah Meredith bless you, you are so busy with your new house, you still remember to fit us all in too, so thank you. Netherfield looks absolutely fantastic. I am soooo jealous. Your book nook looks lovely and cosy. I can’t wait to see it all finished with your books etc., I can’t believe how quick it has been built! I am v excited for Lory Lilian and Jane Odiwe as I love their books. I am reading at the moment the three short stories by Joy Dawn King and thoroughly enjoying it too. Good luck to you and Mr. Bingley with the move X

  2. WOO HOO!! Congrats on the house!! It’s beautiful! I agree with Mr. Bingley on the kitchen lights, those are a great choice. Merry Christmas Meredith! Many blessings on you both and Netherfield! It has been let at last, isn’t this a great thing? 😉

  3. Congratulations on your upcoming closing! How exciting! And stressful! And time consuming! And wonderful!

I hope you and Mr. Bingley find joy in the whole crazy process. The books and blog and devoted followers will happily wait until things settle down. Thanks for the pictures and sharing updates with us 🙂

  4. Congratulations on your Imminent settlement/closing on your new house. Are you going to post the name of your “estate” any where?…front door, mail box, driveway entrance? And thanks for taking time to update us and send us your photos. Exciting for you! I can feel it in your words. Merry Christmas.

  5. Congratulations. I am sure you will be very happy in such a lovely home. I loved Yours Forever More so I hope you are enjoying it. Also pleased you will have Lory Lilian there. I am currently reading Sketching Mr Darcy for the 4th time and my next to read will be the Memory trilogy by Linda Wells for the 7th time. Thanks for sharing your news

    1. Thank you, Glynis! We are so excited for our dream home! I did enjoy Yours Forevermore, Darcy and will post my review Monday! Sketching Mr. Darcy is a beautiful story, one I definitely will reread again and again! 😉 Happy reading!

  6. I can imagine how crazy busy you guys are. But an exciting busy. Love the name of your door’s paint color. 🙂 And doesn’t Mr. Bingley look proud of his lights.

So much good stuff going on for you. Enjoy your books too. Love your annotated edition tradition. Look forward to your thoughts on Emma.

    1. Hi Sophia! We’ve been preparing slowly and steadily so it isn’t too crazy! I’m actually quite proud of how organized we are! LOL!

Thank you, Sophia! I’m so very excited to spend some time enjoying Emma! I intend to savor it!

  7. Thanks for keeping posting in spite of your busy agenda! But, as Heather M says, the books, blog and readers will wait until things settle down 🙂
How lovely to move to Netherfield in Christmas! It will be a special season for Mr Bingley and you because you will decorate your home with Christmas goodies. I wish you the best for next week in order to sign the papers! .
The agenda is full of interesting books and interviews. I hope the annotated edition of Emma is a delightful experience. I’ve just finished reading “Pemberly celebrations” by Kara Louise and yesterday I started “Steampunk Darcy” by Mónica Fairview and since the first pages the image of Gerald Butler (with his amazing green eyes) came to my mind when imagining the character of Will Darcy.
    Merry Christmas Meredith!

    1. I always smile when I read your comments, Teresa! Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts! It will be a very special Christmas! We usually have our decorations and tree up by now, but will hopefully be doing that soon! 😉

Love your reading choices! Pemberley Celebrations will definitely get you in the holiday spirit! And I love your idea of Gerard Butler as Will Darcy…good mental image! Merry Christmas to you sweet friend!

  8. Many blessings on your new home! Absolutely love the lights and your own ‘book nook’! I have Jane Odiwe’s book to read this month as well along with ‘The Earl’s Conquest’, ‘The Darcy’s First Christmas’, Colonel Fitzwilliam’s Challenge’ and ‘Darcy’s Denial’. All the best on your closing and your move!

  9. Whoohoo. So happy the house is pretty much ready. I love the entry. You two are so cute. I love the annotated books also. I hadn’t seen the “Emma” one. I hope you love it. I’m looking forward to Jane odiwe’s release. I hadn’t heard of ms. Schroeder before. Thanks for updates especially during your busy time.

    1. Thank you, Suzan! We can’t believe how fast it got ready! <3 I'm excited to reread Emma, but I hope the annotated edition enhances the experience even more! Come back Wednedsay to meet Anngela! She is lovely! 😉

    1. Thank you, Candy! I’ve been thinking of you and your move! Hope you are all happy in YOUR new home and excited about celebrating your first Christmas!

  10. Congratulations Meredith!! And Mr. Bingley of course! 🙂 I’m sure this will be a very special Christmas for you. Your new house seems so cozy and beautiful! I’m very happy for you!
Look forward to reading your reviews and welcoming your guests! Happy December! 😉

    1. Thank you, Maria! We are currently surrounded by boxes…we’ve been packing things away gradually all month. Can’t wait for the unpacking to begin! Happy December for you!

    1. Thank you, Nicole! 🙂 We will be spreading out the shopping a little since the house took a good chunk of our $$. But I hope the bookshelves will be one of the things we buy soon!

  11. Congrats! I love the “moody blue” door! The Moody Blues are my favorite band(probably said that before)! And Knights in White Satin is my favorite song, although I’m hardly a Knightley in White Satin(sorry!). I’m working on David Shapard’s Annotated Sense and Sensibility for Austen in Boston’s January discussion. Cheers!

  12. How exciting! I’m so happy your new home is coming along so well. The living room in my brother & SIL’s house is the same blue as your door (or pretty darn close), and I absolutely love it!

I haven’t been able to read much of anything the past month or so, but I’m hoping that will change come January.

    1. I thought with the grey exterior paint it might be fun to go with a bolder and different color. So glad we did! It goes well!

I hope you get plenty of reading time in the next month, my friend! December is hard, there is so much going on and a lot of extra things to do!

  13. So happy for you!!!! Love the photos and it’s such wonderful news that you can move into your dream home at last. Wishing you both all the very best and lots of happiness in your beautiful new home!
