Austenesque Agenda – August 2015

AA

Hello my dear readers and friends!  Happy August to you!

Mr. Bingley and I have some exciting news to impart about our future home!

You may remember me announcing that we were beginning to look/getting ready to buy our first home many months ago… Well, the process was long and very circuitous.  We had very complicated specifications from the get-go, had a hard time finding what we needed, and eventually changed our minds and altered our ideals…

Since we are so happy with our new studio space, we no longer have the need/desire to find a home that can accommodate our businesses (taking this out of the equation made the process a whole lot easier!!)

It is crazy to see look back and see the full journey! But the great news is it is finally happening!

The Bingleys will be buying their Netherfield at last!

Here we are on our lot the day we signed the papers. We ended up in a brand new housing development in a very nice part of town. Close to the beach, downtown, our jobs, and favorite shops. Truly a dream destination for our home!

A few weeks later we were so excited to see they cleared the land and had up the SOLD sign.

But then a whole month went by while we waited to be fully approved from the lender… We were “pre-qualified” and “pre-approved,” but were very nervous about getting approved from Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.  We are both self-employed and have heard how hard this process can be for people who are even more secure in their jobs and holdings than us.

We found out we were approved (yay!) this past Thursday and paid a visit to our lot on Saturday to find they laid down the foundation and pipework!  (Not sure if they knew about the approval before we did or not!)

My question for you is…what should we name our home?  Because as Jane Austen has taught us, all proper dwellings must have a name!  I like the idea of having it play on “Netherfield” and Mr. Bingley is doesn’t mind in the least!  Maybe something like Netherhaven? (a home should be a haven) Netherport? (we do live in a coastal city) or Netherton? (a play on Hobbiton because we do love the comforts of home)  What ideas/suggestions do you have?

  1. So excited for you about your house! While you are waiting for it to spring up, I suggest reading Fitzwilliam Darcy, an Honourable Man. Of all the P&P stories I’ve read, I can vividly recall this one. High angst, but oh so sweet at times! One section in particular I’ve read a dozen times. Happy reading!

    1. Thank you, Ginger! 🙂 This last month was hard, but it feels good to finally be able to celebrate! I appreciate you sharing your thoughts, definitely whetting my appetite!

      Thanks for voting! 🙂 FDAHM – 1 / TC – 0

  2. Hi Meredith

Congratulations on your new home. Sooo excited and happy for you and Mr. Bingley. You should definitely call your home a name which reminds you of P & P. You could have Netherbourne for Netherfield and Longbourne but definitely something along the lines you suggest above. I vote for FD an Honourable Man as I have never read any Brenda Webbs books and she has very good review on Amazon. I am just about to downloan the J. Dawn King one of my new kindle. Happy August!

    1. Thank you, Michelle! 🙂 That’s a good suggestion, I didn’t think of using Longbourn! I hope you enjoy reading Joy’s new book! I believe I will be starting it later this week!

      Thanks for voting! 🙂 FDAHM – 2 / TC – 0

  3. I’ve heard good reviews about Brenda’s book, but I read “Thursday’s Child” last month and it’s really good too. It’s quite a different take, which makes it unmatched in regards to other plots and it’s dark and passionate… Have fun with whatever you decide to read!

    1. Thanks, Claudine! I’ve had both on my wishlist for a long time (Brenda’s book for years!) I think both look great and am looking forward to reading one of them this month!

  4. Congratulations on the new home, Meredith (and congrats to Mr. B as well). It’s a joyous occasion. My opinion on your choice for the name of your home is Netherfield. Yep, no changes. Just as you did not change Mr. Bingley’s name to Bingham, Bington, Bingland, Bingman, or any other form, you could keep the original.

    1. Thank you, Joy! It is our dream home, we are very excited! You bring up a great point about the name…my mom agrees with you too! LOL! Had to laugh at Bingman. Could you imagine if I called him that? – hey yo, Bingman! 😉

  5. I have rejected reading “Thursday’s Child” as the theme is abhorrent to me. I went back and re-read some of the reviews and continue to reject this as a choice for me. So…Brenda Webb’s book is my vote. I have read it and enjoyed it as I did all of her other books.

Why not Netherfield? Everyone would not be asking you if the name is a connection to P&P as they would if you combined part of the name with other descriptors. But then some might. For me it would be obvious and if I didn’t know you already my comment would be, “Oh, so I see you love the book.”

And congratulations on becoming home owners. Building can be very stressful due to all the little choices and deadlines. Good luck.

    1. That’s another vote for Netherfield…even though I love our dream home it is a cozy little one-story, I guess I thought Netherfield was maybe a little too grand for us. 🙂 I’d love to receive the kind of reaction you are talking about…”So you are into Jane Austen, are you?

So far the most stressful thing was the loan. Picking all the choices of everything was totes fun! 🙂

      Thanks for voting! 🙂 FDAHM – 3 / TC – 0

  6. I highly recommend Brenda Webb’s Fitzwilliam Darcy, An Honorable Man because Mr. Darcy really shines as a character here through thick and thin.

  7. I love your summary “That’s all that’s going on in our neck of the woods”! ALL?? How I long for your energy. I like Michelle’s Netherbourne—it has a ring to it—though the “Nether” part has a bit of a downer feeling, perhaps. In re: reading The Grand Sophy, did you know that the Georgette Heyer group on Goodreads is doing a group reading of it this month? In your copious free time (hah), you might wish to chime in. Congratulations on finding your perfect spot in the world!

    1. LOL! 🙂 Yes, must be careful because “Nether” can sound a little negative. Thanks for letting me know about the group read! That’s a pretty cool coincidence! I’ll have to look for it!

  8. Congrats on the new place!! What about Merefield? LOL (Meredith plus Netherfield…) or Bingley house? So much fun. Love your reading choices. I’m currently planning on reading some more of the Heyer that I’ve been carrying around on my Nook for awhile.

    1. LOL! That’s creative! Bingley house sounds nice! Yay for more Heyer! I keep on wanting to read more then one a year, but that hasn’t happened yet!

  9. Congratulations! I watched Mr. Bingley’s video last night. How exciting! And you looked so cute there in the background! It looks like we might start house hunting here soon. 🙂 I think Joy is right, you should go with Netherfield. Although, I like Stephanie’s Bingley House too!

I love “A Noteworthy Courtship”! I read it years ago! Happy August to you! Looks like a great reading month ahead!

    1. Thank you, Candy! You are so sweet! I kept trying to avoid being in the shot! I think those two names are sounding pretty good at the moment! 😉

Glad to hear you loved A Noteworthy Courtship! I should be sharing my review on Wednesday. I really enjoyed it! 🙂 Happy August, my friend!

  10. Happy New Home! I love your naming ideas but would keep the Netherfield whole, maybe add Cottage or Manor or Grange…?

  11. Fitzwilliam Darcy An Honorable Man by Brenda Webb is one of my all time favorites and one that I have re-read again and again. The incredibly beautiful relationship that Ms Webb sets up between Darcy and Elizabeth is well worth the angst and one that will leave your heart yearning for more. I’m so happy to see Brenda’s book listed here. Thanks, Jen Red

  12. First off congratulations on buying/building your first home. The naming of homes has always intrigued me, I haven’t done it myself but it does sound like fun. I like Austenfield for a name but all of the suggestions sound nice to me. As for what book I suggest FD an Honorable Man by B Webb first, then Thursday Child as they are both good.

I’m really looking forward to your interviews, especially with Cat Gardiner , she is a favorite of mine.

    1. Thank you, Carmalee! Since it is the first house we will own, I thought it might be fun to give it a special name. 🙂 Since I’m Austen-obsessed, I definitely like the idea of naming it something Austen-related. Glad to hear you’d recommend both book! 😉 Cat is awesome and I know she has a really special post to share with you all this month! 🙂

      Thanks for voting! 🙂 FDAHM – 6 / TC – 0

  13. “Thursday’s Child” is absolutely outstanding and remarkable and i strongly recommended it to everyone!!!! As for Jane Austen and Regency lover and who read thousands of JAFFs and who appreciate good original, amazing, passionate, angsty and touching story with true Austen characters this book is one of my favourites!!! Ms Webb book was interesting only at the the beginning which was sad because premise was also great… but after several chapters i had a feeling that it has been written for length not quality. So you should, no, you HAVE TO read Thursday’s Child! You will not regret it! I promise 🙂

    1. I’m really glad to hear that you thought so highly of Thursday’s Child! Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

      Thanks for voting! 🙂 FDAHM – 6 / TC – 1

  14. Congratulations on your purchase. Enjoy the journey. As for the two books, I have read them both and appreciated each, however if I was to choose. I would choose FD An Honourable Man as I love the way that agenda tells a story with both the original and unique characters. It is also one that I have reread a few times. Enjoy!

    1. Thank you, Elissa! We are looking forward to the next part of the journey, hopefully it will be less stressful then the first leg! 😉 Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

      Thanks for voting! 🙂 FDAHM – 7 / TC – 1

  15. Both stories are definitely quite angsty, but my vote would have to be for Fitzwilliam Darcy: An Honorable Man. Darcy makes one of his most swoon-worthy appearances in it, being not only a most ardent admirer but also a fierce protector of Elizabeth. The book is difficult to put down once you start reading it (I have often been the bearer of bleary eyes from many late nights reading into the wee hours). It’s peppered with unexpected twists and turns that are a delight (even if they do cause some flutterings and palpitations). It remains my go-to book when I want to sigh and even drool a little over a most wonderful love between two of literature’s favorite characters.

Concerning the question of the naming of your house, Netherfield is quite nice, but the Bingleys only lived there for a year after they were married. Since the name of the estate they bought in Derbyshire is never named, you can pick anything and it would be appropriate. Personally, I always liked the name Sanditon which seems perfect for a home near the beach.

    1. Ooh! A swoon-worhy Darcy! I can’t wait! 😉 That’s great that it is such a favorite of yours! I love hearing that!

That is true about it not being the BIngleys’ permanent home. But when you do hear the name Netherfield you do connect it to Bingley! I love Sanditon (both the book and fictional place!)…will have to keep that in mind!

      Thanks for voting! 🙂 FDAHM – 8 / TC – 1

  16. I liked both, Thursday’s Child and FD Honorable Man. I suggest read both, if you only read one then pick FD Honorable Man,

  17. Congratulations on this new adventure. I like Netherton the most. Just finished Georgiana Darcy and loved it. One of my favourite characters gets a HEA tale of her own.

  18. Congrats on your new place!
I’ve read Fitzwilliam Darcy, An Honourable Man, and not Thursday’s Child. While the reviews for Thursday’s Child are generally good, I have no desire to read a book where the “love story” involves cheating on a spouse, even if the writing is fabulous. So I vote for FDAHM.

  19. Fitzwilliam Darcy An Honourable Man is my absolute favourite, lots of angst of course, but I do love angst, so long as there is a HEA at the end. And fortunately for me and other readers this wonderfully written story has a happy ending.

  20. Congratulations on your new home-to-be! Since “nether” means “lower”, how about Nethernest (every home should be a nest!) Since “bourne” means “limit or boundary”, I wouldn’t recommend pairing it with Nether – Susan’s recommendation of Netherfield Cottage is wonderful – sounds warm and welcoming, just like the Bingleys!

  21. Congratulations on your new home! I would second the Sanditon suggestion.
I am also voting for F D an Honorable Man. Ms Webb does a magnificent job writing AU stories.

    1. Thank you, Peggy! Hmm…I’ll have to share the Sanditon idea with Mr. Bingley and see what he thinks since he is unfamiliar with it. 🙂

      Thanks for voting! 🙂 FDAHM – 13 / TC – 1

  22. Congratulations on getting approved for your new home, that is excellent news! I like the idea of naming it, too! The name Bingleford Manor keeps popping into my head and making me giggle. With a house name like that, you almost have to have a butler, right?

    1. Thank you, Monica! It is a relief to be finally approved! I should have known you – the master creator of names – would come up with the best name for our home! Yes, butler is a must as well as a snooty accent!

      1. Haha when that one annoying neighbor drops by (everybody has one) & Wigglesworth says “Mr and Mrs Bingley are not at home to callers this evening.”

Oh I named your butler Wigglesworth btw.

  23. I vote for reading ‘Fitzwilliam Darcy: An Honorable Man’ and then Netherton as the name for your new home, where Hobbits and Janeites may dwell together in harmony. Now, will you have a round door as Hobbits do? XD

    1. Sounds like a most utopian kind of home! 🙂 We cannot have a round door sadly, but we do have a tealish-green kind of door! 😉

      Thanks for voting! 🙂 FDAHM – 14 / TC – 1

  24. definitely a Thursday’s Child! Absolutely wonderful story, very original! And very well written too!

  25. Congratulations on your new home! I thing the original name of Netherfield would fit you since you already have Mr. Bingley.

I would love for you to review Brenda’s book! I really love it.

  26. Congratulations to you and Mr. Bingley! Building a new home is so exciting. I’d love to see pictures as you lovely home progresses.

Merryfield Manor – nod to you and Mr. Bingley (combines Netherfield and Meryton)

    1. Thank you, Robin!! Will keep you all updated! Love your proposed name, I’m quite fond of Merry – friends used to call me that in elementary school!

  27. Hi Meredith,
If I can help and vote, I’ve read both books but Thursday’s Child is absolutely winner and this is my vote 🙂 Honourable Man kind of depressing and not believable enough and I just hated and made me ill what was done to Elizabeth

  28. Hi again,
I’m very happy you’ve got your home!, I didn’t have time to answer you in anticipo right way lol, all the names are beatitud, you’ll success with any of them! ☺I’ve moved at last to my new home too, it seems we’re following the same para lol, so I wish you the very Best! . And your choice of Georgette Heyer is really Good! Happy birthday in advance if I can’t write to you in the following days because I’m going in vacación to the beach!

    1. My mobile is driving me crazy! I didn’t mean “anticipo”, I meant “a”. And I didn’t mean “para” but “path”

    2. How do you like your new home? I’d love to hear more about it! LOL! That’s great we are traveling down the same road together! 🙂 And a vacation on the beach? That sounds perfect! Hope you get the chance to read!!! Your comments about The Grand Sophy recently definitely helped me make up my mind that it was the Heyer book I wanted to read next!

      Thanks for voting! 🙂 FDAHM – 15 / TC – 7

  29. I highly recommend Brenda’ book. He is definitely an Honorable Man in this story and I can’t recommend it enough

    Carla

  30. I am not an angst lover, but Fitzwilliam Darcy, an Honourable Man is a story that I am glad I read. Brenda did take me on a journey that was difficult to read at times, but in the end I got my HEA. This is one of the first P&P stories I ever read and I still recall it vividly after all this time. I have even reread it a time or two. I will be honest and admit that there are some truly evil characters in this tale, but at the same time there are characters whose love and commitment to each other is amazing. I hope you will review this story. I am sure you would enjoy reading it.

    1. Thank you for sharing your thoughts, Janet! I don’t mind angst too much, as long as the HEA still happens! 🙂

      Thanks for voting! 🙂 FDAHM – 18 / TC – 7

  31. Wow! What a choice! I’ve read both and the angst is super high for both of them, but I loved Fitzwilliam Darcy: An Honorable Man. The title says it all about him. I’ve got an image in my head of the scene of Darcy at Netherfield with the Bingleys and it’s not faded after all these years. Their road to love and marriage is hard but you can feel it in every muscle and nerve of your body.

Congrats again on building! That’s always been my dream! I love the name Netherton!

    1. Ooh! I love your description…but then I’m not surprised, you have a great way with words! 🙂

      Thanks for voting! 🙂 FDAHM – 20 / TC – 7

    2. Rose – that is how I saw “Fitzwilliam Darcy: An Honorable Man” You are right the title says it all.

  32. I am here because i’ve read on Ms Webb’s forum that there is a vote and she asked for voting for her book of course and which is sad because Ms Santarsiero has not that privilege and i am guessing which one win but i persuade you to read Thursday’s Child! And then maybe you will think about reviews it anyway! The book is absolutely stunning, for the plot and characters, story is so believable and so true to Regency times! Beautifully written with several scenes so touching that they will make you re-read again or will make you laugh and make you cry sometime but it is definitely worth of reading! So it is my vote of course!
    Magdalene

    1. Hi Magdalene! I was wondering where all the new commenters were coming from! Never has my monthly update received such interest! 😉 I don’t have any rules saying anything against sharing, so I don’t have any issue with what Brenda did. Rest assured, I do own both books and plan to read and review both here! This vote just determines which book I will read and review this month! I appreciate you sharing you thoughts!

      Thanks for voting! 🙂 FDAHM – 20 / TC – 8

  33. It would have to be FD An Honorable Man. A wonderful story, I could physically feel Darcy’s pain when he thought Elizabeth was dead.

  34. I would like to read a review of the “Thursday’s Child” as it is my one of favourites book. Very well written, very beautiful story and original with very adventurous plot and much believable than An Honorable Man (didn’t like how most of the characters were portrayed – very un-Austen style)

  35. Oh, congrats, Meredith!! Such an exciting news! 😀 I’m so happy for you and Mr. Bingley!
I look forward to reading your review of Lady Maybe. I love Julie Klassen! 🙂 And I can’t wait to read The Grand Sophy as well! I just finished Black Sheep and loved it so much! If you haven’t read it, I highly recommend it. It ends abruptly but the protagonists are so endearing and their banter are wonderful! 😉
    I’ll vote for Thursday’s Child. 🙂

    1. Thank you, Maria! We are really happy that things are finally coming together and are in motion. It was a 14 months of searching, thinking, re-evaluating, more searching, weighing options…glad that part is over! I think I have Black Sheep (haven’t read it) or maybe I have The Black Moth (haven’t read that either!) I have loads of Heyer to catch up on!

Will be posting my review of Lady Maybe next Monday! 🙂 Looking forward to hearing what you think of it!

      Thanks for voting! 🙂 FDAHM – 21 / TC – 10

  36. Congratulations on the new house! I remember that feeling!! 🙂 I love Brenda Webb’s Fitzwilliam Darcy: An Honorable Man, so it gets my vote! I thoroughly enjoyed that book! 🙂

  37. Hi Meredith! I have read both of the books you are considering, but if I had to pick one, I would select Fitzwilliam Darcy: An Honorable Man. I think you will enjoy it.

  38. Congrats on the house, Meredith!! Looks like you’re going to have a great August. Fitzwilliam Darcy: An Honorable Gentleman has my vote. I read it back in my newbie days and loved it!

  39. “Fitzwilliam Darcy: An Honorable Man” is angsty, yes, but even this angst weenie enjoyed it. First read it when it was originally being posted and then purchased the book. Lots of action, lots of romance, and lots of good old fashioned ‘just deserts’ for some very, very bad characters. But through it all, Darcy remains true to his title of ‘honorable man’! Highly recommended reading!

  40. I’ve read both and while I don’t have a problem with the plot of Thursday’s Child, you will love An Honorable Man. Frankly, the title says it all: without question Fitzwilliam Darcy proves himself to be the man Elizabeth needs. The book is well written and provides a compelling story. You will not be disappointed.

  41. Congratulations on your new home! I like Netherfield Cottage.

As for which book to pick, I own and have read both of them, but I vastly prefer Brenda Webb’s FD:An Honorable Man. It is a wonderful book to read and reread. It is well worth the angst and the way the character developments unfold is just lovely. You won’t regret reading it!

  42. Oh, so very happy for you and Mr. Bingley and your new home. I actually wondered what progress you were making, and it is so lovely you are sharing this with us. Can’t wait for you to share in the progress.

I love Robin Helm’s suggestion of Merryfield. But I also liked just plain Netherfield, because more people would ‘get it.’ As mentioned, a modern interpretation of ‘nether’ could be less than complimentary.

Brenda Webb isn’t for everyone, but I love her writing and I loved FDAHM, I’ve reread it a couple times, and there are scenes in that story that I can recall so faithfully months and months after reading it last. Very visual, almost cinematic. Gothic villains too. The discussion makes me want to go and read it again. I don’t think you can go wrong with either choice.

Wonderful agenda as always. Couldn’t praise Georgette Heyer enough….ever. I just recently finished ‘Faro’s Daughter,’ and begged my hubby to read it. I had gotten him to read ‘Frederica’ earlier this year (his first GH) and now he talks about it every so often. (A confirmed sci-fi, Tolkien and military history fan) Anyway, I could reread that last few pages over and over and over. I think you’ll love Grand Sophy.

Very excited about your guest authors this month, yay!

    1. Thank you sweet friend! I was mum about it for quite a while because I didn’t have anything definite or exciting to talk about. Glad that can finally change! Thanks for sharing your thoughts about the house names!

I love visual writing! 🙂 Glad to hear you enjoyed many rereads!

That’s fantastic that your hubby reads Heyer! I love that he talks about it! 🙂 You’ve made me even more excited about reading my Heyer this month!

  43. In my opinion FD an Honorable Man is one of the most fascinating stories in this genre. Mrs. Webb allows the reader to penetrate into the depth of experience of our favorite characters. I read with pleasure and with a sinking heart at the same time

  44. I actually read “Fitzwilliam Darcy: An Honorable Man” twice. The first time I sat down and opened up Chapter one and three days later I was done. I really could not put it down for all the angst. Then I read it again to seriously enjoy the love and passion two people can truly feel for each other regardless of the angst. Brenda Webb does them both in such a way that it stays with you for a very long time. Only a person with a true passionate heart and a real understanding of love can write like this and Brenda Webb is certainly on my top ten list. I am reading a slew of new P&P’s just out, but I have “An Honorable Man” staring me in the face from my favorites bookshelf in my reading room.

I know that after you have read the book you will come out feeling the same as I did. Have fun.

    Lizzie

    1. Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts, Lizzie! I’m so happy to hear how much you love Ms. Webb’s writing!

      Thanks for voting! 🙂 FDAHM – 30 / TC – 10

  45. I have read “Thursday’s Child” and “Fitzwilliam Darcy, An Honorable Man” and these two are both greatly written and I enjoyed them both. In fact, I have read them twice. As far as honor is concerned, Brenda Webb’s novel is the novel where Darcy’s character is truly that and in Pat’s novel, he is not so honorable but what he does is for the honor of having a heir and he does wind up marrying the person with who he does have the affair with after his wife dies. I think it depends on what you believe in your life as to what is acceptable. Back in that time, mistresses were had, children born out of wedlock as in today’s times.
I will go with Brenda Webb’s novel only because I have read all her novels and Pat has only written one so it would be hard for me to pick hers.
I hope this helps in someway.
Congratulations to the Bingleys for the purchase of their home. Maybe Nether Park would be a good name for your estate!

    1. That’s awesome, MaryAnn! I’m glad you enjoyed both books twice! Thank you for the kind congrats and for sharing your thoughts! I appreciate it!

      Thanks for voting! 🙂 FDAHM – 32 / TC – 10

  46. I have also read both of these books. While “Thursday’s Child” was a good book, I would vote…100% for the “Fitzwilliam Darcy, An Honorable Man” for my choice as the Best Book I have read in a quite a while. Brenda has such a unique writing style that it makes you feel like while you are reading, you are actually sitting in the room with him while he holds Lizzy. You feel the love that he projects for her, the anger at Bingley and the all out passion that these two timeless characters are believed to have. I have read this book server; times, and I would not hesitate to read it again and again. Her character development between Lizzy, Darcy, Jane and Charles, Georgiana and the issues that arise are unforgettable. Thank you Brenda for brining such a new look into the lives of these beloved characters.

  47. “Fitzwilliam Darcy An Honourable Man” is a wonderful book!!! I have read it several times and I will read it several more times; its that good. Brenda Webb has a terrific talent and gift!!!!!

  48. Enjoy your path to your life: your new home, your writing, and whatever else happens along the way! (I would LOVE to live near the (ocean) beach!!!) My suggestion for a name is tongue-in-cheek…..Field of Dreams!!! : -) Meredith, I agree with so many of the others that you cannot go wrong reading Brenda’s FDAHM. I also have read and re-read it. I love its length….so many times when a book ends you feel like crying because your best friend just moved to another place and your life will never be the same. Same idea (for me) with books. I refuse to buy short ones because the pain of separation will hurt too much!. I have not read Thursday’s Child, but will look into it. Enjoy the book. Enjoy the house. Enjoy your life! Best of luck!!!!! : -) Almost forgot! Cat Gardiner is amazing!!!

  49. Hi Meredith,
Congrats on the home! I would recommend ‘Fitzwilliam Darcy: An Honorable Man.’ It is a full story with some angst that only propels you to read on. I am going to take it to the beach this summer to read it again!

  50. Congrats on your new home! So much more space for books… 🙂 Gosh, naming your home sounds fun but daunting.

As far as recommendations I vote for Brenda Webb’s Fitzwilliam Darcy: An Honorable Man. Would love to read your review on the book. I really enjoyed it.

    Happy reading!

    1. Thank you, Dung! 🙂 I’m very excited about the book opportunities! It IS daunting! Everyone has given such great suggestions! Will have to devote some serious time to thinking about this!

      Thanks for voting! 🙂 FDAHM – 37 / TC – 10

  51. Congratulations on your new home! This is such an excited time! I vote for Netherfield Cottage. I have always dreamed of a cute little cottage by the water and loved Barton Cottage in S&S

I read Thursday’s child but after seeing everyone’s recommendations for the other I suggest you start there. People seem to love it so I must add it to my TBR list.

    1. Thank you, Joy! How beautiful would it be to live so close to the water! We are good couple miles off the shore, but close enough to drive! 🙂

I remember you as being the first one to highly recommend Thursday’s Child to me. I look forward to reading it one day soon!

      Thanks for voting! 🙂 FDAHM – 38 / TC – 10

  52. Getting a new home is so exciting – moving, not so much. Good luck. I 100% vote for Brenda Webb’s Fitzwilliam Darcy: An Honorable Man. I really enjoy Brenda’s style of writing. She makes the characters come alive. I felt all the fear, heartache, and love which made up the lives of the heroes in her book, You will be spellbound by the story and at times may yell at the book -‘Noooooooooooooo’. But just keep reading and all will be revealed.

    1. Very true! I love the unpacking part though – I find it sooo much fun to figure out where everything will go – I like to organize!

  53. I’m commenting again!

Goodness gracious Meredith, I feel sorry for you now! ;/ YOU JUST BETTER L-O-V-E FDAHM!!! I mean, no pressure or anything. Anyone reading the comments who have not read FDAHM will surely run out and get it very soon if they haven’t already. I’m changing my vote to TC.

I started reading it last night, and wow. What heartache already. I had to turn the lights out and try to get some sleep, which was tough. Then woke up in the teeny weeny wee hours and could not get back to sleep because I was thinking of what could possibly happen next.

I guess by now it’s a foregone conclusion that you will be reading and reviewing FDAHM. And that’s ok. I loved it. I’m pulling for you M. 🙂

    1. LOL! With so many recs I’m pretty sure I’ll love it! 🙂 That’s great that you are enjoying TC! I’m glad you decided to give it a try! I love when a book is one of the first things you think about almost as soon as you wake up! I may find a way to squeeze in TC for September! 😉

  54. Congrats on your new adventure! How exciting!

Hopefully I’m not to late to vote. You’ve picked a few books that are tough on the heartstrings to choose from. I’ve read both books, and would love to see you review both, but out of the two I have to recommend Brenda’s An Honorable Man. I’ve read that book at least 3 times and the Darcy in it is tender and memorable. The Bingley’s in it are nice too 🙂

    1. Thank you, Colleen! Not too late! 😉 I did! I’m in the mood for some heartstring pulling! 🙂 I will definitely review both her at some point, just a question of which one first. That’s great to hear about the Bingleys – as you know I’m quite fond of them!

  55. I may be too late, but I wanted to put my two cents in for F.D, an Honorable Gentleman and Thursday’s Child. Wow, how to choose between 2 such awesome stories? F.D. was a story that I read when I was first introduced to D&E fan fiction and is one that I will occasionally reread when I feel in the mood for a D saves E quick read. I loved the plot line, and the swoon worthy Darcy. It is a book that engages many emotions, and that is the mark of a good read, isn’t it? That you get so involved with the characters, that you feel their pain and pleasure?
I also enjoyed Thursday’s Child. It is a totally new take on the characters. Nothing like I had read before, and the writing was awesome. You really felt sympathy for all of the characters and their struggles.
I couldn’t really choose between either book, they are both very worthwhile reading, but F.D., aHG will always be in my heart as the beginning of my happy obsession with D&E. But, you can’t go wrong with either. Enjoy!

  56. Wonderful to hear about your house, such great news! Lovely to think of you two building your dream home, you’re going to be so happy there. You’re going to be happy anywhere because you’re such a great couple, but it’s wonderful to hear you’re building your Netherfield at last!

Sorry it took me so long to catch up with myself, August and school hols are the time of year when we’re more out than in. But what a lovely post to come home to!

Best of luck and ‘Happy building’ 😀 xx
