Austenesque Agenda – July 2015

AA

It is crazy to think that June is already over and that summer is going so fast!  I feel like it has just begun! 🙂  There has been a lot going on for Mr. Bingley and I this month, we’d love to give you an update!

We had a fantastic time in NYC for Mr. Bingley’s birthday!

We saw Jim Parsons live on Broadway in An Act of God (as well as The Lion King and Chicago).  All shows were magnificent!  Went on an awesome boat tour around Manhattan, trekked through a large portion of Central Park, and ate lots of awesome food!  Two new places we went out of our way to eat at were Colombia in Park Slope and Bantam Bagels.

We are staying out of the ocean for the time being…

Have you heard about all the recent shark attacks in North Carolina…apparently there have been 7 shark biting incidents so far this summer! Nope, nope!  I don’t want to be number 8.  Plus we have a pool at our apartment complex that is usually empty…

I’ve hired a new instructor to teach at our music studio!

I’m not sure if this is normal or not but the searching for applicants/interview process took me 2 and a half months!!  But I guess in the end it is worth it to find someone who is just right for our team!  Glad to have this task off my plate, though!  Let’s me concentrate on other things! 🙂

  1. Lots of great stuff! I’m really liking the Poldark series on PBS, though I haven’t read the book yet. I’ll be reading Pride and Proposals this month, too. Can’t wait to get your thoughts on your July reads and yes! no shark bites, if you please!

I’m going to vote for A Noteworthy Courtship, because I haven’t read that one. I liked Twilight of the Abyss when I read it online but I recall it being quite the tear-jerker.

    1. Thanks, Monica! I’m glad to hear the PBS series is awesome. Going to try holding of on watching until I read the first book. 🙂 Looking forward to reading and comparing notes with you on Pride and Proposals – very excited about it!

Thank you for voting! 🙂 NC – 1 / TA – 0 I’ve heard that about Twilight of the Abyss before.

  2. Great to hear about your summer fun and YES, stay out of the water!!

I’ve read Pride and Proposals & Sun-kissed and thoroughly enjoyed them, and I can’t wait for the summer to plunge into my TBR list. ‘Inspired by Grace’ is very high up there, I am the proud owner of a signed copy AND I met the stunning young lady on the cover 🙂 . (Yes, she’s just as gorgeous in real life, and so are her sisters.)

I’m pretty sure you’ll LOVE Poldark, which is going to be tricky because you’re bound to get sucked into the 11 or so volumes (or at least the early ones, about Poldark and Demelza, rather than their children).

I’ll vote for A Noteworthy Courtship too, it sounds very intriguing.

Have fun whatever you do and best of luck with the music studio and the new house.

    1. My summer sounds tame compared to the fabulous fun you all had together at JA Regency Week! Glad to hear you loved Pride and Proposals and Sun-Kissed! Inspired by Grace is lovely – very likable characters! 🙂 The cover is amazing and Jeanna’s daughter looks like she belongs in that time!

I’m excited about reading Poldark for the first time. I opted to do a review for Austenprose’s upcoming Blog Tour mostly because of your recommendation of the series! 🙂

      Thank you for voting! 🙂 NC – 2 / TA – 0

    1. Thank you, Paige! It was a blast! 🙂

Hope you get to read Poldark, are you watching the series?

      Thank you for voting! 🙂 NC – 3 / TA – 0

  3. I went on Amazon to read the reviews…and again found a certain party who does NOT warn readers that the whole review is a complete summary/SPOILER so I do know the one story. The other one seemed interesting also and is described as P&P meets “You’ve Got Mail”. I, too, want to read Poldark but as it is many, many books and I have not finished the Outlander series, will put that off, But looking forward to your review as I am watching the series on PBS

I vote for Twilight of the Abyss.

Loved all your photos of NYC. It is close enough to us that we have been there as tourists many times. Plus our daughter did an internship there one summer and loved Central Park!

    1. Thanks, Sheila! 🙂 It is definitely one of our favorite places to visit time and time again!

Thank you for your careful consideration with your vote! I appreciate that you do some research! 😉

      Thank you for voting! 🙂 NC – 3 / TA – 1

  4. I wanted to read Twilight of the Abyss but it is only available in paperback – having been originally published in 2010. So that it that.

  5. Both of the books sound good. Hadn’t heard of them before. I went to Amazon to look at the excerpts. I’ll vote for A Noteworthy Courtship by Laura Sanchez. I have heard of the shark attacks. They mention them on the Weather Channel and in the paper. Makes me think of Jaws.

    1. Glad I can show you some books you haven’t heard of before, Michelle!

      Thank you for voting! 🙂 NC – 4 / TA – 1

It feels like Jaws too…hope this doesn’t continue! I miss my beach!

  6. You both look very happy in the photos, bravo for your successful trip to NYC!
I’m glad you found a new teacher, It’s better to take some time in these martes as you have done. Some weeks ago I have started to move from my house to a new one, I’m happy with the change but at the same time It’s tiring to move, to keep things in boxes, to clean and buy new pieces of furniture… You know what I mean because you moved from your house some months ago, there’s some chaos in the air! LOL and I hardly have time for me and my hobbies (like your blog!).
Seeing your agenda I find Poldark!, I remember the Poldark and Demelza books in my parents house, I didn’t read them because I was a child but I remember the series, it was set during the french revolution isn’ t It?. I’m interested in your opinion 🙂
I vote for the Laura Sánchez book. By the way, I finished “grand Sophie” by Georgette Heyer and I enjoyed It a lot! I recommend It to you!

    1. Thank you, Teresa! We were indeed very happy to be together and on another holiday together – Mr. Bingley is an awesome traveling companion! 🙂

I hope things are settling down after your move! It is a lot of work and you never know how much stuff you own until you have to pack it all up! It is fun though to “set up your house” in a new place! Hope you continue to find happiness my friend!

Since you give it such praise, I think The Grand Sophy might be my Heyer read for August! 😉

      Thank you for voting! 🙂 NC – 5 / TA – 1

  7. Lovely photos Meredith! It brings tears to my eyes to see you sitting by the pool reading, things have been so hectic that my reading is suffering as am I 🙁 Oh Lion King I went to see it years ago and it was great. glad you got to see it. A note worthy courtship has my vote. I don’t know much about either but title sounds great and I liked the cover. Happy reading I hope to be on a beach soon doing just that 🙂

    1. Thank you, Tamara! I hope your summer becomes less hectic! Catching up on some reading will make you feel better I’m sure! 🙂 Hope you get the chance soon!

      Thank you for voting! 🙂 NC – 6 / TA – 1

  8. Busy, busy, busy! Glad you had fun in New York. I’d vote for “noteworthy courtship”. I have wanted that one for aeons of time.

    1. LOL! me too! I finally bought it for myself a couple months ago when I had an amazon gift card!

      Thank you for voting! 🙂 NC – 7 / TA – 1

  9. Hi Meredith! We have some of the same books lined up for this month, I hope you enjoy reading them! For your reader choice I’m going to opt for Twilight of the Abyss, because I haven’t heard much about that book.

  10. Sharks!? Oh my! Better to go to the pool! 😉 Loved to see your pictures, Meredith! Thanks for always sharing them with us! 🙂 I’ll vote for A Noteworthy Courtship, because I’ve been told it has something in common with You’ve Got Mail, one of my favourite movies! 😉

    1. Indeed! I’m glad you enjoy our photos! I love taking photos! 🙂 That’t why I added ANC to my wishlist – I love You’ve Got Mail!!!

      Thank you for voting! 🙂 NC – 8 / TA – 2

  11. I have now read both of these books…always thinking that if Meredith is going to read them – they must have some merit. Liked both of them. And am looking forward to reading your review….whichever one the votes indicate.
