Jane Austen’s Rogues and Romance (Jane Austen Unbound)

“A Source of High Entertainment”

Rating: 4.5 out of 5 stars

Forgive the break in precedent, I know this has strictly been a BOOK review blog for the past two years, but I simply must make my sentiments about this elegant diversion known to you!

OVERVIEW:

Jane Austen’s Rogues and Romance (I love the alliterative title) is a hidden-object social game that can be played for free on Facebook. Hidden-object meaning find the ten hidden objects on this list (think I SPY or Where’s Waldo?) and social meaning you can interact and challenge other people playing this game. Players are taken to various scenes from Jane Austen’s six novels to complete mini-quests. Some of these mini-quests require the player to simply find the hidden object in the picture, while others require them to create combos, find items in a certain number of seconds, or find the difference between two pictures. Interspersed throughout all these mini-quests is the story-line which is revealed by Jane Austen and her iconic characters through their dialogue.

MY PLAYING EXPERIENCE:

I started playing this game about a month ago, when I caught wind of it on Facebook. Having reached Level 30, I believe I have completed all available quests and am now in wait for more to be added.

WHAT I LOVE:

– The Visual Feast: With scenes like Barton Cottage Garden, Ford’s Haberdashery, Sydney Gardens, Mrs. Tilney’s Bedroom and many more there is plenty of sumptuous prospects and diverse tableaux in this game. All the locations are so elegant and picturesque! Perfectly apt for a Jane Austen game!

– The Characters: I love that Jane Austen, Elizabeth, Darcy, Marianne, Elinor, and Emma seem to be the main players of the storyline so far. Such a fun group mixed together! I love the witty banter between Darcy and Elizabeth and the new “Dynamic Duo” Marianne and Emma seem to have made with each other. Between Emma’s pride in her abilities as matchmaker and Marianne’s romantic notions they make quite a force to be reckoned with!
The Game Itself: I love the challenge of finding hidden objects in these cluttered and disorderly rooms! It isn’t too easy or too difficult. I find the game very convenient and accessible because you could sit down and play it whenever you like. It doesn’t require a long time commitment. You could play for five minutes or play for a couple of hours. I love the many different types of quests and being able to challenge myself against my Facebook friends. I like that many of the objects are keeping with the Jane Austen time period, like cameos, fans, and parasols. And I enjoy learning a couple new words, like claymore and magpie.

WHAT I’M NOT TOO FOND OF:

Patience is Required: The game itself doesn’t test your patience, but waiting for updates and glitches to be fixed will! As with any new game being released, there are some glitches and periods of wait while all the glitches get sorted out. Some players might get easily frustrated with this, but it seems that Legacy’s support team is super fast at rectifying any issues and very helpful. I might feel a little disappointed right now because I ran out of levels to play, but I know it is probably worth the wait!

*Note:  While the game is available to play and accessible to all players, it hasn’t been “officially” launched yet.

CONCLUSION:

Finally, an addictive and appealing online game for Austen addicts! With elegant music, picturesque scenes, and an intriguing storyline, Jane Austen fans will be “excessively diverted” with this new entertainment!

What do you think my Janeite friends?  Is this more suitable than Angry Birds?  Or Farmville?

  1. I started playing it end of last month I think and was kinda addicted to it and play it everyday. Now after reaching level 35, I feel bored but will sometimes challenge myself to reach for the highest score. Can’t wait until they introduce new scenes and characters.

All in all, it was a great diversion for me as I don’t play other games on Facebook.

  2. I like this hidden object game. The gameplay is very different from Pride and Prejudice RPG iPhone app.
