Hosted by Laurel Ann of Austenprose
The hardworking Laurel Ann of Austenprose is hosting not one but TWO Jane Austen related challenges this year, and yours truly cannot resist either challenge! I’m not going full tilt on this one, which would be (9-12 items), I plan to participate modestly as a Neophyte and review between 1 and 4 selections. To be honest, I’m not sure what items I want to review yet! Out of the possible selections to choose from, I have read and reviewed:
The books I’m interested in reviewing are:
-
Reason and Romance by Debra White Smith (I have read this one already but haven’t reviewed it)
-
The Dashwood Sisters’ Secrets of Love by Rosie Rushton
-
The Three Weissmans of Westport by Cathleen Schine
- The Dashwood Sisters Tell All by Beth Pattillo
W’e’ll see which ones I actually get to read! How I wish I could find a copy of Margaret Dashwood, or Interference by Edith Charlotte Brown. I believe it is the first Sense and Sensibility Austenesque Novel published!
What about you? Are you participating in this challenge? If so, which book or movie are you looking forward to the most?
I have signed up for the Sense and Sensibility challenge because I have never read the book.
Good for you, Marg! You are in for a real treat! Let us know what you think of it!

I haven’t officially signed up yet, but I’m forming my reading list. I’ve read The Dashwood Sisters’ Secrets of Love and it’s excellent. The Three Weissmans of Westport came through the library the other day while I was pondering my choices; I took it as a sign. I snagged Eliza’s Daughter on Jane’s birthday, so that’s also on my list. Perhaps Willoughby’s Return, though I hate him so much that would be hard to read. Definitely Colonel Brandon’s Diary!!
So many to choose from!!

Willoughby’s Return isn’t just about Willoughby and I loved it! I look forward to checking out your reviews, Nancy!
Thanks for the shout out Meredith and joining up. I am looking forward to your reviews. Also, there might be new releases that we do not know about yet in the queue announced later in the year. I am hoping that publishers will be inspired by the bicentenary and give us some new S&S stories. That would be wonderful.
I hope there will be new releases too, Laurel Ann! Especially an annotated S&S by Patricia Meyer Spacks!
I read three of the ones you’ve reviewed. Of the next group listed that you want to I hadn’t heard of a one. I must be in left field where S&S is concerned. I have to admit S&S is about halfway down my list of Austen favorites but i didn’t think I was that negligent…obviously wrong. I do have Eliza’s daughter but haven’t read it yet. At least 2 or 3 on the to do list sound fascinating.
I think you might really like the Debra White Smith book, Suzan. She wrote a modernized series of each Austen novel, but with some Christian undertones. Reason and Romance isn’t my favorite, but I haven’t read it in awhile or reviewed it!
