Austenesque Agenda – August 2024

Hi friends! Happy August! 🌞

If you’ve felt I’ve been MIA in July a little, you would be right. I went on two trips last month. 🛣️

One with Fezzik  🐾

We decided to escape some of the heat and the crowds around Fourth of July weekend 🎆

and went west for some hiking, cooler temps, and fun with animals 🐷

The other trip was a solo road trip around Iceland! 🇮🇸

Which was incredible! Talk about cooler temps, waterfalls, and unreal scenery! 🏔️

I had myself plenty of adventures! 🧊🐎🙌🏼

*if you want to see more pics/videos of my travels (or need more Fezzik in your life) I share more on my personal instagram  – @amerryadventurer (albeit late and sporadically) 😄😬

What fun did you have in July?

  1. You always seem to be on the go, when you do have time to just chilax! 😉

    Great month ahead. Looking forward!

  2. I just finished the ARC for My Dear Friend yesterday and it was fantastic. I am eager to read MJ Steatton’s next as well as Mary Smythe’s.

  3. Lovely photos as always Meredith! And a wonderful selection for the coming month. As for Georgette Heyer, of those three I would pick The Toll Gate (with The Talisman Ring as a back up) have a great month!

  4. I was in Iceland a few years ago. Isn’t it incredible?

It looks like you have a great agenda ahead of you this month!

    Lucy

  5. I love your pictures. Travel, my dear while you are young. When you are older you might not feel like it. Enjoy every single day and don’t forget to send us pictures. Yes, that will do quite nicely. I travel vicariously through you. LOL! Not sorry one bit. Give my love, hugs, and kisses to Fezzik. Blessings.

    1. It looks like a great July! I gather you were nowhere near the volcano in Iceland.

As for Georgette Heyer, I like the Toll Gate and Cousin Kate well enough, but the Talisman Ring is one of my favorites. So that would be my vote.

  6. Glad you enjoyed some nice trips to beat the heat. Fun line up.

I vote for The Toll Gate.

    Have a good August!

  7. Beautiful photos. Never knew anyone else who traveled to Iceland: seeing you in winter gear is hard to imagine with the temperatures we have had here. I cannot help you out on selecting which Heyer book, although I have read some of hers, I have not read any of those three. We visited two of our three children and their families during July. Always love seeing any of our four grandchildren. Look forward to reading your reviews this month.

    1. Believe it or not, this is considered their summer season – they have 21+ hours of daylight during this month. I am bundled up, but that it was mostly around 50s and some days mid-60s, but I’m from the south and find the 50s to even be cold!

So happy to hear you had some good family time and got to see your grandkids!

  8. Heyer choice: The Tollgate! Beautiful travel photos. I’m hoping for a reverse experience this year…New Zealand in the winter so I go from winter to summer instead of summer to winter.

  9. Hi Meredith!
    Incredible pics of Iceland!
    Thanks for sharing
I’ve started my holidays three days ago and it’s fantastic to have plenty of time to travel and have fun!
Your August agenda is really big: I’m curious about your opinion of “Death of a dandy” and “Friendship and fortitude “.
And I’m interested in the new MJ Stratton novel because the cover looks mysterious, doesn’t it?
Speaking of Georgette Heyer, I can’t recommend any of them because I haven’t read any but, if it was for the cover…”The Joll Gate”.
    Have a beautiful August

    1. Hi Teresa!!

Yay! I’m so happy you are on holiday yourself! I hope you enjoy a wonderful time! And I agree, Thwarted does have an ominous look to it – which is intriguing!

      Thank you for voting! CK – O/ TG – 5/ TR – 1

  10. I would love to go to Iceland! It’s a real bucket list destination for me.

I’ve read all of your Heyer options. Of the three, my favourite is the Talisman Ring, which has murder, mystery and more than one romance. They are all worth a read in my opinion but Cousin Kate gets mixed reviews as it’s quite gothic. All of these three have some dark things happen in them though, more so than many of her other books. I hope you enjoy whichever one you read.

    1. I highly recommend it! It was a fantastic place with so much to see!

I appreciate hearing your thoughts about the Heyer choices – also your memory is so impressive! I’ve only read a little more than a dozen Heyer books myself and don’t always keep them straight!

      Thank you for voting! CK – O/ TG – 5/ TR – 2

  11. J.W. took the words right out of my mouth. Iceland. It seems the new IN travel destination, and it looks like an amazing place. Broken record, but I love your photos. I’m heading over to Instagram next.

Woo what a great agenda for this month, great lineup of author visits, I’m looking forward to it all.

    1. I forgot to vote for my Georgette Heyer choice. I’d choose Toll Gate. The Talisman Ring as runner up. I’m embarrassed to say I haven’t read Cousin Kate yet! I need to. But first I’ll read whatever wins the choice first so I can have it fresh in my mind when you review it.

  12. Iceland looks amazing! As for reading, Talisman Ring was my first Georgette and remains one of my favorites. It is hilarious and the characters are so well drawn. I don’t know that I’ve read Cousin Kate, but I did enjoy Toll Gate, full of adventure. Heyer has been a great inspiration for me in my writing. One can hardly go wrong with a Heyer or an Austen!
