Austenesque Agenda – January 2023

Hi friends! Happy 2023!!

I hope you all enjoyed a festive and fun holiday season! 🎄

I had a couple of fun things happen in December (and one not so fun – my parents’ beloved cat crossed the rainbow bridge on Christmas Day 😥)

I thought I’d spotlight the fun I had after Christmas – when my mom and I went on a girls trip to Colonial Williamsburg! 🕯
It was our first time attending at Christmas, and we loved seeing all the decorations – especially the wreathes. 🍎

We enjoyed visiting at night and going on a Haunted Ghost Tour, 👻

touring the homes where famous historical figures like George Washington and Thomas Jefferson visited, 🫖

and visiting the trade shops with authentically-skilled tradespeople – my favorites were the apothecary and tailor. 🪡

What fun and festive activities did you enjoy in December?

  1. I love your carriage trip! But I hope you didn’t actually find any ghosts? I’m looking forward to your thoughts on these books and your author interviews.
I visited my son and his family. I was treated to a play put on by my 6 year old twin grandsons 🙂
I managed to visit my Mum before Christmas but she and some other residents and staff of her Care Home now have Covid! Fortunately Mum’s not too poorly but it may prevent us visiting for her 94th birthday shortly. Oh well it will be a belated celebration if necessary.

  2. Ugh, so sorry to read about your parents’ cat. Love the travel photos! Flat Jane Austen and I went to Portland ME for JASNA-ME’s Christmas meeting(the lecture was about music in the time of JA!!). We also took a ride on Portland’s Polar Express train ride and toured a Victorian Christmas Mansion. Flat Jane scoffed at painting of unsmiling Queen “Vicky”. 🙂 I hope you enjoy Box Hill! I especially enjoyed that my partner’s parents town of St Francisville was mentioned(we picked up our furbabies from there summer 2021) And, having been to Box Hill itself, I love every mention of it except for Emma’s words there.

  3. I’m delighted you and your mom enjoyed your trip to my hometown – where history never gets old!

  4. Looking forward to your reviews Meredith, I’ve read about half of them. There’s a new author in your visit list so that will be interesting. Starting off with a bang!

When we lived out East I always wished we could have visited Colonial Willaimsburg. I loved visiting through your photos. What an experience.

  5. We have visited Colonial Williamsburg but quite some time ago, while our children were still living with us. I have read several of the books you have listed. Love your photos as always. We had a wedding (in which I was the lector) for my husband’s niece and also my goddaughter. That involved some traveling as it was not local. I sleep on a recliner and the local hotels could not accommodate me with such so we went home each night. Rehearsal was Thursday with Wedding on Saturday. Sorry to hear about your parents’ cat. Pets are always like members of the family.

  6. It had to be exciting visit a place such a Williamsburg! Thanks for the pics 🙂
I’m sorry for your parent’s cat, I understand their pain. I had a dear rabbit years ago and she croosed the rainbow bridge (beautiful way of saying) in July 4th, wow, such an important date! ( she got her independence day, it seems kind of joke). But, although it seems a fixed expression, “Time heals all” and it’s true.
Speaking of books, I’m looking forward to your opinion of Amy D’Orazio’s novel as well as Jayne Bamber’s and Lucy Knight’s
Tomorrow, 6th January, we celebrate in Spain “La fiesta de los Reyes Magos” (Three Wise Men festivity) and we’ll exchange gifts (as in Christmas) and will be eating a delicious cake called “Roscon de Reyes” so it will be a fun time.
    A big hug
