If you haven’t heard of Holidays with Jane, it is an anthology series of Austen-inspired holiday-themed short stories. There are six stories in each anthology (one for each Jane Austen novel) and each story takes place in present-day. The lovely ladies who collaborate on these anthologies have published four anthologies so far (Christmas Cheer, Spring Fever, Trick or Sweet, Summer of Love) and have a new one scheduled to release soon – Thankful Hearts). In this collection we see Halloween-themed parties and dances, fall festivals, and bit of magic…

MUST BE MAGIC – Kimberly Truesdale

The Premise: As soon as Anne’s family puts their beloved home on the market, two people return to town – the man who Anne broke up with eight years ago and someone intent on finding the powerful talisman hidden in Anne’s home…

What I Loved: That this story infused a bit of magic into Persuasion! I liked how Anne’s reason for breaking up with Fareed (Captain Wentworth) wasn’t due to persuasion, but more to do with her wanting to learn about herself and her gifts. I loved all the talk of spells and seeing what Anne did with her magic as well as the trip to the apple farm and Halloween party. Continue reading »

EXTRA INNINGS – Jessica Grey

The Premise: A new assistant coach joins the Chawton Choppers club and he just happens to be the man Anne Elliot, administrative assistant and social media guru to the Choppers, broke an engagement with ten years ago…

What I Loved: Jane Austen and Baseball! Yes. Anne was awesome – I felt connected to her right away, she was a wonderful blend of dependability, kindness, and quiet passion. I also loved seeing her stand up for herself – twice! And Rick Wentworth…sigh. I love how he delivered his famous “half agony, half hope” letter – brilliant and adorable! The inspiring baseball epigraphs were a perfect touch. Loved it all! One of my faves! Continue reading »

When I heard that authors from Indie Jane Press were collaborating together to create an Austen-Inspired short story anthology, I thought it a terrific idea! Then, when I learned the stories were to be holiday-themed and full of “Christmas Cheer,” I was thrilled (who doesn’t love Christmas stories?!?) And… when I discovered that the stories were to be modern-day adaptations, one story for each of Jane Austen’s major novels, I was…excessively excited! How perfect and brilliant! What more could we ask for?
