TYPE OF AUSTENESQUE NOVEL: Pride and Prejudice Sequel, Minor Character

TIME FRAME: Takes place four years after Particular Intentions, Georgiana is 20 years of age

SERIES: Book 2 of 2 in the Particular Intentions Series (while stand alone, I would recommend reading Particular Intentions first to enhance enjoyment and understanding)

SYNOPSIS: It has been five years since Ramsgate and Georgiana Darcy has still not made her debut. Because of what transpired with Wickham (which is sadly much worse than what happens in P&P), Georgiana has decided to eschew London society and has determined that she will not marry. Ever. But in order to spend the holidays with her brother’s family, Georgiana has decided to return to London after all this time. Georgiana’s time in London begins pleasant enough, but she soon encounters some people from her past – a childhood playmate whom she always found insufferable and a person guilty of causing her great harm and suffering… Will Georgiana overcome her past? Will her secrets cause her ruin? Continue reading »

Particular IntentionsEavesdropping and Threats!

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars

TYPE OF NOVEL: Pride and Prejudice Variation

TIME FRAME: Begins shortly before Elizabeth’s arrival at Netherfield to tend Jane

SYNOPSIS:

Quite by accident, Elizabeth overhears a discussion at Netherfield where Miss Bingley disparages her family and their low connections. A similar conversation to the one in Chapter 8 of Pride and Prejudice. But instead of letting Caroline’s diatribe go unchecked, Mr. Darcy decides to defend the Bennets and forcefully reminds Caroline of her own inferiority in society. Mr. Darcy’s strong defense does much to change Elizabeth’s opinion of him, even if he did say she was “tolerable.” But despite there being less pride and prejudice for Darcy and Elizabeth to overcome, it seems that there are several acquaintances and strangers who wish to separate them…or do them harm! The Earl's ConquestThe Courtship of Darcy’s Grandmother!

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars

In her most recent Pride and Prejudice variation, An Unwavering Trust, author L.L. Diamond introduced readers to Darcy’s grandmother, the Dowager Countess of Matlock, Rebecca Fitzwilliam. I’m sure I am not the only reader who found the Dowager Countess – with her no-nonsense manner, compassionate heart, and sharp wit – a An Unwavering Trustwonderfully fascinating addition to the story. She is the type of character that must be universally adored and admired. I’m so glad that Ms. Diamond created a prequel to An Unwavering Trust that illustrates more of Rebecca’s character and her marriage to her husband.

This sweet novella begins with Elizabeth on the brink of giving birth to their second child. The midwife has been called for and Elizabeth is looking to distract herself from the labor pains. In comes grandmamma (Rebecca Fitzwilliam) and Elizabeth begs her to tell the story she has yet to hear – the story of how she came to marry Gerald Fitzwilliam, Earl of Matlock… Continue reading »
