Happy June, friends! Did you have a lovely May? For me, it was lovely, because I’ve been taking myself to the beach more! Yay for warm weather!

We’ve also went on a lovely trip to Savannah for 2 days. Mr. Bingley had a wedding to play for there, and of course, I tagged along! We thought it would be great to visit Savannah since neither of us had been there before and everyone says it is one of the most charming cities in the south!

We definitely agree with them! I adored the squares so much, I would go there to read everyday if I lived there!

And I absolutely loved the oak tress and Spanish moss at the Wormsloe Historic Site.

Other than that, we’ve been starting to look for ways to keep ourselves a little more active (for both our jobs we sit a lot), and we aren’t fond of gyms or exercising! :/  Now that the weather is nice we are trying to walk/hike a bit more, and early in the month I had the great idea to go to this newly opened ropes course near us! We loved it, but were sore for days!! LOL!

    HI Meredith

Looks like you and Mr. Bingley had a fun time. We have had two bank holidays in the UK and had gorgeous weather for each of them. Some great authors and books so very much looking forward to your reviews of the above books.

  2.

Your trips always look so fun, Meredith! 🙂 Looking forward to the busy month ahead.

  3.

You and Mr. Bingley have the most wonderful vacations/trips! I love seeing the pictures as I feel like I have gone along with you! Looking forward to being with you this month too.

  4.

Love the photos. Glad to hear about your getting out and about. Good reading ahead. I have not even heard of I capture the Castle. Is it JAFF? I have read several of the other books. Hope you enjoy those. Thanks for sharing.

    •

Thank you, Sheila! I Capture the Castle is not JAFF, it is about a seventeen year old girl and her family in the 1930’s. They are poor and live in an old castle. The main character is a writer and chronicles what happens with her family, especially her sister, Rose, who is 21 and eager to marry. I wrote a quick review on Goodreads, but I’m won’t be sharing it here. There is a movie for it too, which I saw before reading the book.

I have been to Savannah too! Back in June of 1994 (it doesn’t seem that long ago!), my family and I went on a road trip through the southeast – stopping at the Outer Banks, Charleston, Savannah, Atlanta, and other places. Saw so many places I’d only read about! It was so hot, and it was only June! Don’t know how the residents stand it! My favorite historic place was Fort Sumter, which I’d studied in my history classes. We also took in severald Civil War battlefields, which I’d also studied. Just the first of many road trips that I drove with my family! You’ve brought back some good memories!

    •

Oh lovely, Denise! I’m trying to get to all those places myself. Outer Banks is still on our list! 🙂 Oh yes, June is very hot and often humid! We were sweating a good deal in Savannah, lucky for us there is a lot of shade! Aw! Thanks for sharing, I love hearing about travels! 🙂 And I’m glad it brought back such lovely memories!

  6.

Love the pics! So glad you and hubby had a great time! Savannah looks gorgeous. I hope to go there someday

Your job is my dream job…..read and read and read a little more! Love your blog!

    •

Aww! Thank you for such a lovely comment, Pam! 🙂 Savannah is gorgeous and so full of charm! I adored it! Hope you do get to visit one day!

Oh I would so love to make it my job! How wonderful it would be to do this full time! 🙂

  7.

What a DELICIOUS agenda for this month, woo hoo! What authors! What books!

I seriously adore your pictures, Meredith. I can’t enlarge the photos, and my wee old eyes cannot detect some finer detail. I can look up the places you visited, but I cannot tell what the dickens Mr. Bingley is wearing on his cute head!!

I really liked the movie version of ‘I Capture The Castle,’ what a damaged, quirky, struggling, and yet oddly close-knit and supportive family. I liked it enough to find the book (ooo so many years ago, I’ve forgotten some details.) Hard to realize that movie came out in 2004. I’ve loved watching Romola Garai’s career ever since.

    •

Thank you, Michelle! I’m very excited to have such an active schedule planned! 🙂 LOL! That has been the cause of comment for a lot of people! 🙂 The helmet had a “Savannah” theme to it – a bunch of mini cups because Savannah “open container” laws. Meaning you can walk around town with an opened alcoholic beverage. Mr. Bingley just picked the helmet because he thought it looked fun! I almost went with the pirate helmet, but I thought the dreads would make me too hot!

Like you I saw the movie before reading the book and I’m not sure if it skewed things for me because I think I liked the movie better. At least where Rose is concerned, the portrayal does not feel as sympathetic in the book.

  8.

Such fabulous photos Meredith. You two really seem to enjoy yourselves.
You have another busy month coming up and I really look forward to your interviews and thoughts on your featured books. I have read Elizabeth’s and Linda’s books and really enjoyed them.
I’m looking forward to next week when my daughter, her husband and their two little boys arrive from Australia for a holiday. I haven’t seen them for two years as they couldn’t come last year so I’m very excited.

    •

Oh Glynis, that’s so neat. Two years is way too long to go without seeing your children and grandchildren in person. God Bless.

      •

Thank you Michelle. My daughter used to come every year but they now have to buy 4 seats and she works part time as her boys are only just five and nearly three. Unfortunately I can’t fly so no chance of me going all that way (although her youngest did say I could go by jet ski 🙂 – but my daughter said with my sense of direction there’s no knowing where I’d end up!)

    •

Thank you, Glynis! I love spending time with Mr. Bingley, we are each other’s best friend. 🙂

Oh I’m so very excited for you!!! I can only imagine how wonderful it will be to see each other in person after so long!! I hope you enjoy a wonderfully long visit!

  9.

Savannah looks amazing, Meredith!! I’ve also heard that it’s one of the most haunted cities in the US–did you see any ghosties or ghoulies? 😉

Looks like an amazing month ahead here on Austenesque Reviews!! I can’t wait!! I’m really looking forward to Caitlin’s new release–isn’t the cover sumptuous?

Glad you enjoyed your trip–and that ropes course!! Yikes–you are a brave woman!!

    Have a lovely June!!

    Warmly,
    Susanne 🙂

    •

We tried too! We went on a ghost tour, but sadly no spirits joined us! 🙂

I quite agree! I’m so excited to read her latest!

LOL! I need to work on my upper body strength a little more, as I couldn’t complete the course all the way!

  10.

Wow, Meredith, ambitious a bit? I’m excited for Sue Barr, who has been my friend since we were tweens and writing Cinderella-American Graffiti Style plays for our church rummage sale. I guess that was fanfic too! I hope you get to read London Holiday as soon as you can, as I think you’ll adore it, and in the meantime, enjoy your visit from Nicole Clarkston. And all those other great books and authors! Pals Linda Beutler and Shannon Winslow getting reviews is tops in my books! I admire them all!

    •

It is ambitious! I’m trying to keep up with all the lovely authors who have books coming out! 🙂 That’s lovely that you are long time friends with Sue Barr! Thanks so much for your recommendation and kind support! I am greatly looking forward to this month’s reads and visits!

  11.

If I’ve ever been to Savannah, it was just driving through, and so I didn’t realize how nice it is. Good for you to have an opportunity to enjoy some of these mini adventures!

    •

Thank you, Rosie! We are all about the mini adventures as we have a limit on how many days we can take off work! Looking forward to seeing what weekend adventures we can have this summer! Yes, Savannah is so lovely, definitely worth a visit!

  12.

Yay for beach reads and so cool to slip in a trip to Savannah. That is a city I want to see some day. Good on you both for getting out and getting moving.

Oh, yes, you do have quite the June line-up.

    Have a great month, Meredith!

    •

Yes! I’m so excited to see the beach more often now! Especially as Mr. Bingley is wanting to go more than he did in years past (I think it is because he can drive his truck on the beach!)

Hope you enjoy a wonderful month of reads, Sophia! I look forward to seeing what Austenesque books you read this month!

  13.

You always take the best photos… at first I thought it was a book cover. I could just see someone going down that road. Wow! Thanks for sharing your reading list with us. Some I have read and others I want to. My TBR pile is growing by leaps and bounds. I’m glad you enjoyed your trip. Say hello to Mr. Bingley for me.

    •

Thank you, Jeanne! That is incredibly kind of you to say! Pictures are my favorite type of souvenir, so I’m trying to make sure I take good ones of all the places I go! I know what you mean about your TBR pile, our authors are keeping us busy!!

  14.

Wow, what a month you have planned! Looking forward to it a lot. I haven’t yet read any of the books you’ve pictured, though several of them are already on my TBR list.

That rope course looks amazing, but I’m not sure it’d be within the realms of my physical abilities any more! As always, your photos are fantastic. Thanks for sharing them with us.

    •

Yes! It is definitely one of my busiest agendas! So very excited for it all! 🙂 I hope you enjoy all the author visits and reviews. 🙂

It was an amazing course, I especially loved that it was in such a natural setting, deep into the forest with trees giving you shade. I’ve seen other ropes courses be next to a busy road or grocery store and that kind of gives you a different ambiance!

  15.

Lovely photos! Yay for beach trips and adventures on ropes. 🙂 Happy June!

  16.

I’ve never been to Savannah, but have heard that it’s a lovely place. Your ropes course looks intense, and like it would be a lot of fun! Thank you for sharing your adventures. 🙂

    •

It is very lovely, Ann! What everyone says about it is true! The ropes course started out easier and got harder as we went. We didn’t make it all the way to the end because we are not very athletic!

  17.

Oh reading at the beach, how perfectly lovely 😀

  18.

Goodness what a fun packed month! Happy reading.

  19.

Your trip looked wonderful! I was in Savannah back in 1988 for a wedding on St. Simon’s Island. We took a tour around Savannah and loved it! Actually the whole trip down there was wonderful! You certainly have a fabulous line-up of books and authors visiting! I’m looking forward to so many of them!

    •

Thank you, Carole! It was wonderful! Sadly I ended up losing all my other photographs because I had to switch phones unexpectedly, so all I have are the ones I shared on Facebook (so glad I did!) I think we will have to go back though so I can get some more! 😉

Hope you have a wonderful month, my friend!

  20.

    Y’all have the most fun!
