Greetings my Austenesque-loving friends!  I am so excited to celebrate my blog’s Blogiversary with you today!  I cannot believe I’ve been blogging 8 years already! That seems like such a high number for something I feel didn’t start too long ago!  But I guess it has!

It has been a wonderful blog journey for me these past eight years and that is because of you lovely readers and wonderful authors!  Readers – thank you so much for your participation, support, and conversation!  I love our chats and your sharing, and I am so happy to get to know many of you through our love of Jane Austen.  Authors – thank you for the stories you write, the friendships, and the visits!  My blog is richer for your presence!

I am thrilled to celebrate this year’s blogiversary with some charts and graphs!!  Woot woot! Any chart or graph fans in the house?

As you may remember, I asked readers of my blog to fill out a Quick-Fire Question survey about Pride and Prejudice!

Well, the results are in and we can all take a gander to see where some trends lie, what answers are popular, and which ones are more unique!  I hope you enjoy!

*Anytime I use ‘Misc. Answers’ is when there were many options that only have one write-in vote.

~ Quick-Fire Questions: Pride and Prejudice Survey ~

~ OUR ANSWERS ~

  • I think it is interest that the Hunsford/First Proposal has more than double the votes than Darcy’s Second Proposal.

  • In this answer we have a lot of diversity.  As you can see 50% of the write-in votes were all unique choices!  Full quotes are listed below.

“You must allow me to tell you how ardently I admire and love you.”

“It was, on the contrary, exactly calculated to make her understand her own wishes; and never had she so honestly felt that she could have loved him, as now, when all love must be vain.”

“For what do we live, but to make sport for our neighbours, and laugh at them in our turn?””

“It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune must be in want of a wife.”

Obstinate, headstrong girl!

“Think only of the past as its remembrance gives you pleasure.

“My courage always rises with every attempt to intimidate me.”

“Your mother will never see you again if you do not marry Mr. Collins, and I will never see you again if you do.”

  • I am not surprised at all to see Colonel Fitzwilliam leading the pack!  But perhaps a little surprised to see Mrs. Bennet and Lady C earning as many votes as they did!

  • Interesting to see Mr. Collins ahead of Mr. Wickham!  I guess Mr. Wickham’s charm works in his favor still! 😉

  • What a diverse set of responses!  I am surprised to see Mrs. Gardiner in the top 3.  I love how honest people are about themselves!  It isn’t easy to admit you are most similar to Lady Catherine or Caroline Bingley!

  • Wasn’t it hard to pick just one aspect of Mr. Darcy’s character?!?  Looks like many admire him most because he changed his ways for love.

  • Interesting split!  It is hard to put ourselves in Charlotte’s shoes since our time periods and situations are so different and I know many agree (evidence above proves this!) that her decision to marry Mr. Collins was the right one.  But the optimistic part of me likes to imagine that if Charlotte held out a little longer someone better would have come her way! Maybe a kind widower would have moved to the area or something… 😉

  • Haha!  The scale is definitely tipped a little more in this one, I sympathize with poor Jane since she kind of gets to experience both!!

  • I wasn’t sure if it would be blasphemous to ask about flaws in Pride and Prejudice!  I have to admit, now that I think of it, that lack of kisses would be on my list too (just call me Marianne!) 😉

Our Truths Universally Acknowledged

These were all wonderfully unique so I picked a select few to share!

  • “Rereadings and Austenesque are good for your mental health!”
  • “That each person should respect the feelings and thoughts of others.”
  • “That men and women will misunderstand each other for time eternal.”
  • “This is hardly a quick question!”
  • “Jane Austen is one of the most brilliant authors of all time!”
  • “A woman with a few pence to spare must buy another book about Darcy and Elizabeth.”
  • “That a tired mom in possession of alone time in the bathroom will always be found by her children!”
  • “That an ardent reader will always be in want of more books!”
  • “I must learn to be content with being happier than I deserve.”
  • “All can learn if given the opportunity.”

~~~
Thank you all who contributed these answers for our survey, and thank you to everyone for reading these results!!  I appreciate you joining in the celebration!  It wouldn’t be a proper celebration without some prizes…and there are some very lovely prizes this year!!
  14.
    Congrats on 8 years — you’ve done an incredible job with this blog and introducing me to the welcome world of Austen-inspired reads!
    I loved reading the results of your survey; my bookclub just read Middlemarch and we were trying to decide who was more odious, Mr Collins or Mr Casaubon. Not sure if you’ve read Middlemarch and have an opinion, but all of the women at the discussion thought Casaubon was worse (if you can believe it!).
    •
      Thank you, Audra! So very happy to introduce you to some new reads! I have not read Middlemarch, it is one I am interested in reading though! I’ll definitely tell you what I think of Mr. Casaubon (what a name!) when I encounter him!
  15.
    Wow, 8 years already, how awesome! Happy blogiversary Meredith. I loved the results of the survey, I was surprised that Caroline didn’t rank higher in readers dislike. 😉
  31.
    Congratulations on you blogiversary, 8 years of wonderful austenesque perfection!
    I’d love to be in the draw for the print please!
  32.
    Yay I love this blog! Super interesting results on the polls. I am a little shocked that Darcy’s first proposal was a fan favorite, I always felt so awkward for them. But then again it does finally open Darcy’s mind for a peek into for the first time.
    •
      Thank you, Katie! It makes me so happy to hear you say that! I was too, I guess the fact that Darcy’s declaration does have some fervent love behind it, even if he does say several insulting things! Or maybe readers like it most because Elizabeth sticks up for herself so bravely!
  33.
    Congrats! I don’t drink tea, but any of the other prizes would be so fun!
  34.
    Congratulations on your blogiversary meredith! It was so much fun to read the results of the survey and especially to see that so many people love p&p and Darcy for so many different reasons! Thanks for the giveaway, I’d like to enter as an international reader!
  35.
    That was a fun survey Meredith and I am quite surprised by some of the results! It must have been a hoot reading everyone’s answers.
    The prizes look amazing! Good luck to everyone ❤️
    It wasn’t that long ago that you reviewed my Mercy’s Embrace books. What an encouragment that was to me! Countless readers have discovered the world of Austen fiction thanks to you. Happy, happy blogiversary!
    •
  50.
    Love those fun charts and graphs!
    Thanks, Meredith, for eight years of playing a huge role in the JAFF community and for sharing with us bits of your own life. Austenesque Reviews is one of twelve ‘frequently visited’ sites on my computer, and I swear I haven’t missed a single one of your posts in all these years. You and your blog are a treasure!
    Hugs,
    Joanne
    P.S. – Please don’t enter me in the giveaway.
  51.
    What a wonderful way to celebrate your blogivesary! Eight is great! Congratulations. And thank you for all you do to promote Austen reads and writers! XO
  52.
    Would Lady Catherine approve of blogging?
  53.
    Congratulations, Meredith – you are a gift to us all!
  54.
    Meredith, ‘it has been a lovely blog journey’ for all of us as well. Eight years seem like a long time, and I wasn’t there at the very beginning. But I can’t remember what reading JAFF was like before I discovered your blog. You have introduced me to so many wonderful authors and their books. And gave me that nudge over the fence I was sitting on regarding a book, or genre (as in contemporary vs traditional historical) that I didn’t exaggerate what I stated above. And the blog has also been like a very good friend, being able to talk about books with others who share your interests. No one else I have in my life reads JAFF. So, thanks again and here’s to at LEAST 8 more years.
    •
      Oh, and don’t enter me in this drawing this time. I hang my head in shame at not participating in the survey. Quick-Fire, HA!! I don’t DO quick answers. And I’m up to my receding hairline in decisions recently and so ran kicking and screaming from having to choose the answers to those questions. Such a big baby. But. I LOVED the results, and was quite surprised at some of them. Hey, Meredith, your graphics are getting more and more eye-catching and fun! I also got a kick out of the last list of answers you listed….’the truth universally acknowledged’ great answers people!!
    •
      You are such a dear, Michelle! I am so happy to have friends like you along for the journey! It is hard for me to remember JAFF before my blog too! It is definitely much more fun to share and discuss with friends! I’m glad you gave some contemporary stories a try! I think it is fun to see reincarnations of Jane Austen’s characters or fellow Jane Austen addicts in our modern world!
      No worries about not doing the survey – it was not easy! I took the survey myself, and there were a few I probably wasn’t so quick with! I’m glad you enjoyed the graphics, sometimes I am limited with what I can make – in this one I couldn’t add as much text. So I had to get more creative with what I said. 😉
  55.
    Congratulations on 8 years of blogging. I love your blog. I hope you write for many more years. 🙂
    Would love to win .. (already have #2 from your blog. )
    Becky
  56.
    Happy Bloging – loved reading all the responses – some really surprised me. Oh, not a tea drinker – wish I was!
  57.
    Congratulations on 8 yrs! Always something interesting going on your blog. Thanks for a chance for some great prizes.
  58.
    Love it! Eight years in bloggerland is like dog years to human which means you’re such a trooper to have been going steady for so long. Way to go.
    Oh how fun. I was so curious to see the survey answers. Some were right what I thought it would be but others were a surprise.
    Wishing you another wonderful year of blogging. 🙂
    •
      Thank you, my dear friend! LOL! That sounds about right! 😉 It has gone fast though! I agree about the survey – it was nice to have a combination of surprises and non-surprises!
      Thanks for your wonderful support and friendship! People like you encourage us all so much!
  59.
    Happy Blogiversary, Meredith. I have loved your blog since I first started visiting it. Then the greatest pleasure came when I got to know you through correspondence. You are such a lovely and inspirational young woman. Thank you for your support and help when I was starting my own blog! I love reading your reviews. You can tell about something you aren’t as fond of and still make it sound like a compliment. I admire that! Congratulations on 8 great years! The giveaway is awesome. I love those posters!
    •
      I forgot to mention how much I enjoyed reading the survey results and seeing your colorful charts. They were great!
    •
      You are such a dear, Janet! Thank you! 🙂 It has been great to be “email correspondents” these past years! I hope one day we will meet in person! I appreciate all your kind words and friendship has been invaluable to me! Thank you so much for everything!!
  60.
    Congrats
  61.
    Happy blogiversary, Meredith! Thank you for all the excellent revlews you posted over the last eight years; I’ve found some great books and favorite authors because of your recommendations. No one in my circle of friends reads JAFF, so your blog is like having a good friend who’s always ready to talk about my favorite fictional characters. Here’s to eight more years!
  62.
    Happy anniversary! I found you about two years ago on Goodreads which lead me here to your wonderful blog. Your book reviews have definitely helped shape my JAFF reading list!
  63.
    I love the “worse fate” part of the survey. I would definitely prefer having Mrs. Bennet as a mother than Caroline as a sister. I’d just have to marry and move away…
    •
      Me too. I had other options for that, (ie marrying Mr. Collins, having Lady C as a mother), but I thought it might be interesting to narrow it down to just these two. 😉
  64.
    Congratulations Meredith!!! And thank you for bringing everyone so much pleasure over the years 🙂
    I loved participating in the survey, and I’m loving it even more to see the results today. What surprised me the most was how high Jane ranked as favourite character; I wasn’t expecting that at all.
    Unfortunetely I am not elegible for the US giveaways but count me in for the Pemberley Pond print, that North and South print is smiling at me 🙂
    Please keep posting! We love your blog 🙂
    •
      Thank you, Rita! I appreciate it so much! 🙂 That surprised me too! I thought many found her too perfect or a little too uninteresting. She doesn’t seem popular with JAFF authors either.
      The tea box is now also international. YAY! I love how Pemberley Pond has some great non-Jane Austen posters too!
      •
        Yes, I find her particularly uninteresting as a character, and I thought more people had my opinion. The tea box is also international? Yay!!! I love everything they have at Pemberley Pond, a couple of years some friends offered me several products from that shop and they remain some of my favourite items 🙂
  65.
    Happy Blogversary, Meredith, and thanks for all the joy you bring into the Austen world, your blog is such a happy place!!! Love the graphs and your comments. LOL poor Jane indeed, that she gets to have both Mrs Bennet as a mother and Caroline as her sister. Thank goodness for her angelic disposition, she sure needs it!! Please don’t enter me in the giveaway, just wanted to pop by to say thanks for everything, happy anniversary, and here’s to many more!!!
    Lots of love,
    Joana
    •
      Thank you, Joana! You are so sweet! 😉 I didn’t realize it until we were talking about the results, but yes – she and Mr. Bingley do put up with some difficult personalities! Perhaps more so than any other character does! LOL!
      Thank you for being such an incredible friend and supporter of not just me, but also my blog! Hugs! xoxo
  66.
    congrats on your blogiversary!!!
  67.
    Congratulations! Loved seeing the pie charts of the responses!
  68.
    So fun to see how my responses compare. Happy Blogiversary!
  69.
    Thank you for this interesting poll. I did agree with many of the answers but it was still interesting to read what others posted.
  70.
    Dear Meredith,
    Congratulations on your 8th Blogiversary!!! (I just had my 11th last month!) Your blog is my go-to place to check out the latest in JAFF, so thank you for your beautifully-detailed reviews and your delightful interviews!!! This blog is a treasure!!
    Susanne 🙂
    •
      That’s awesome, Susanne! Congrats! I hope to follow your steps and continue Austenesque Reviews that long! I appreciate all your kind words and for your reading of my reviews! I love seeing familiar names in the comments! 😉
  71.
    Happy 8th Blogiversary Meredith!
    I enjoy a lot with your blog reading about new books, authors and sharing comments with you and the other readers. It’s a beautiful and fun routine 😉
    Thank you so much and I wish you many more years of happy blogging!. Thanks for your generous giveaways (in my case put me for the #5 as I’m not from US). A big hug my friend!
    •
  73.
    YAY YOU! Congrats on capturing our hearts! LOVE LOVE LOVE reading your blog!
  74.
    Love the displays of the answers. I’m one that is never sure that Charlotte made the right choice. She settled for Collins and might have missed out on a happier life. Wich she rather deserves, with that kind widower like you said 😀 !!
  75.
    Happy Blogiversary!! Congrats on your huge success! I love your little corner in the crazy web and I will always be grateful to you and Austenesque Reviews because I discovered this beautiful world of Austen inspired stories thanks to you! 😉
  76.
    Congratulations, Meredith! I have been enjoying your blog for several years.
  77.
    EEEEEKKKKKKK!!!! So many great prizes, you are so wonderful to share them….I would want to (actually I’m pretty sure I would) keep them all to myself! Your blog has been so awesome, expensive at times, but I really appreciate your reviews. Anytime I see a JAFF book I come here to see if you have reviewed it or the author already before buying it…lol I only started following your blog about 5 years ago but I have found many lovely authors and stories that I have enjoyed thanks to you! Please keep going for many more years!!!!
    •
      LOL! Thanks, Danielle! I am so glad you like the prizes and I am definitely happy to share them! I do subscribe to Pembertea so I will be receiving a box for myself!     Happy blogiversary, Meredith! And thanks for everything you do for us in the way of reviews, interviews and most of all your amazing lists!
    The survey was a lot of fun and I love your colourful graphical representations of the results. Some of the results are surprising indeed. I wonder how much the result of the “favourite scene” vote was skewed by the 1995 dramatisation. Certainly the way it was portrayed there, Hunsford wins hands down for me over the second proposal. I think I’ve read somewhere that they wished they’d filmed the second proposal differently after the fact. I always thought it was rather odd to have the farmer tending to his horse and cart in the background there. I have to say that I also love Ben Whitrow’s reaction to Elizabeth turning down Mr. Collins, and Elizabeth and Lady C’s confrontation.
    Pemberley Pond’s Etsy store is amazing! I want one of everything! As it’s the only part of the giveaway I’m eligible for, I’ll be keeping everything crossed!
      Very interesting tidbits n perspectives, Anji. Thanks!
      Thank you, Anji!! I am so glad you enjoy the posts I share, especially the lists!! 🙂
      I agree about the favorite scene and the movie adaptations. Interesting fact about the 1995 second proposal. I agree, the secondary characters do have some great scenes and the actors do fabulous with them!
      I agree with you about Pemberley Pond! I only have one print, but I want to get many others! The Pembertea box is also now open internationally! Yay! 😉
    I totally agree with the ended too soon people. I think that is why JAFF is so popular. Congrats on your anniversary.
    Congratulations on achieving the milestone, Meredith. I don’t know I first came to visit your blog (back in those days when it was on blogspot) but I think I was googling for something and yours pop up. Then I knew I have to visit your blog and read your lovely reviews. Then it inspire me to write my own reviews and thus create a blog to document my Austenesque reviews. In a way, I should thank you first.
    All the prizes are lovely and I hope to win the Pembertea box. Thank you for making 2 prizes internationally open.
